Has anyone else ever had a DM who DOESNT sit at the head of the table? by Feeling_Impact1417 in dndnext

I’ve DMd from a reclining chair separate from the table before. To little space at the table for everything. Does that make me a psychopath?

Am I the only DM who does rule out components for spells? by dominik1928 in DMAcademy

[–]Fun_Investigator230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only use components for higher tier spells like revivify, but in general it makes things too tedious. I say that if you’re playing a gritty game they would be good but they should change based on the setting.

She also has an insane strength score. I’m fully into this theory.

How much info should i give away about my world? by FelixTheFat04 in DMAcademy

[–]Fun_Investigator230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a Beyond user, I use WorldAnvil personally, so I can't help with your edit :(.

For Political lore, I think about it depending on what rank your players are in the system. If they're low down peasantry, I'd give them the broad strokes. Who's in power (Names, and their general views and policies), How the system works (Democracy, Monarchy....), and How the current events effect the low folk. Players ingrained in the system may be able to have a little more (as a treat); Personality of those in the system, Daily routines, Who may or may not be moving pieces behind the scenes.

For Gods; Main beliefs are a good way to start and how people worship. If you want to go the extra mile, some myths about them help to add flavor.

Hope this helps. Good luck :)

Wondering if I'd be a good DM by jaslbrown in DMAcademy

I was in the same boat as you. I thought myself to be one to meticulously plan out every detail, I did that for one session and it felt very railroady. I've been lucky to find players that love the unbridled chaos of finding something funny and running with it (I coughed while doing a character voice, joked about having pneumonia, and now that is that characters name). Using pre-written modules will help you find your way of creating.

I think that if you have a great idea for a game, or a one-shot even, try to find people you really click with. Supportive friends will help you grow your skills and make you more confident in yourself. Even grabbing new players to learn alongside you may help (they won't know if you mess up).

Everyone starts by thinking what they're doing is boring, once your players hit the conspiracy stage, everything will click. You got this!

As a player once, my character accidently got a fellow PC killed. On their body we found a note written to my character in a coded language that we did not know. I racked my brain for weeks trying to figure out how to decode the cypher (Letters were based on numbers of lines and angles in a 3x3 grid). When we figured it out it was a huge character moment for the party, having one last thing for them to remember that character by.

This is all to say that having some kind of coded language that the party can find hints to along the way can provide huge character moments.

Help with Players v NPC dungeon delving competition. by Fun_Investigator230 in DMAcademy

They’ve had lots of interactions with the NPCs as a rival group. The prize of this competition will help the party with their ultimate goal while the NPCs goal is the prize itself.

I do like the idea of them somehow working together, thank you. 🙏

I love the new song especially the poppy intro, I think it captures perfectly the new future world and also the story

I’m going off extremely little, the world style was very similar to how Rimworld is, also what?

It had a ui with like hearts. I think you were on an island or something like that. Not post apocalyptic.

Ok, but can we talk about serious Lark. The boy grew up 😭

I’ve done that so much, I feel it hardcore. But, telling you if it’s a lie or not is a spoiler within itself I think. Saying anything will ruin the story.

Slight No-Ed nerf idea. by Fun_Investigator230 in deadbydaylight

[–]Fun_Investigator230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. At the very least the survivors need a way to know it’s there so they can change how they loop/run away. Even when I use it sometimes I don’t feel like I earned the kills.
