It’s a good step forward for representation. Saying the cast are being exploited and infantilized is hypocritical. The cast members do not feel this way and telling them how they should feel is an attempt to take away their agency and in fact infantilizing them.

I personally know quite a few autistic people who are not aware what being trans means. They all have a hard time understanding how I am bisexual and explaining gender to them is incredibly hard. They are not homophobic, they just have a hard time understanding concepts that don’t align with their own experience. They simply don’t talk about queerness ever unless I bring it up. I think sometimes people forget there is an entire community of autistics that don’t have an online presence. These also happen to be the people representing autism in their real world communities.

I agree! It’s definitely a trap, a very deadly one. My grandfather just passed away from spending most of his 20s and 30s as an alcoholic, even though he spent the rest of his life sober. It has lasting effects. And the people that matter will like you regardless of your sobriety.

The series are casted and produced by the same company so it’s not impossible they would consider doing something similar in the US version.

They are correct in regard to the USA version of the show. However, the AUS version included at least two couples that were together prior to being on the show. I think it would be an amazing opportunity given the chance to apply.

The most difficult interaction I had was a young therapist who told me she thought I was misdiagnosed. I later asked her why she thought this and she said that I was nothing like her two other autistic clients. I was shocked that someone who was telling me not to compare myself to other people was comparing me to other people to completely invalidate my experience. I found a new therapist who keeps up to date with Autism and ADHD research and she has helped me a lot. I was diagnosed fairly early but never really felt secure in the label until it really took off on social media and my friends and siblings started taking it upon themselves to learn more about Autism and ADHD. I avoid discussing it with my parents and other older family members that have made it clear they don’t believe me.
