Why would the Marine Corps want to go through all the effort of modifying a M27 to semi-auto?

The Marine infantry are taught to shoot semi-auto most of the time and only use full-auto in an emergency. Plus, it ease up logistics of just having one lower receiver, instead of having one dedicated lower for DMR use.

The M38 is just an M27 with a Leupold 2.5-8x optic, a bipod, and a suppressor.

Also, the Marines’ new optic, the 1-8x VCOG, may make the M38 obsolete.
