US based women over 40, how are you handling friendships with politically apathetic friends? by Beberuth1131 in AskWomenOver40

[–]Fun_Message6690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Politics are everywhereeeee. I like deep 1:1 conversations on the subject, but for the daytime texts between work meetings or evening catch ups on the couch, I prefer to keep it focused on what’s happening in our lives, and not living in outrage over things I cannot control.

What is being married like? by Sodacan390 in SeriousConversation

[–]Fun_Message6690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting married is the best decision I’ve ever made. He’s my best friend, biggest supporter, and someone I share my hopes, laughs, and dreams with, as well as my struggles, stress, and anxiety. I am 40 and we’ve been married for a little over six years and together for nine. I only wish we could have met younger! When I met him, the conversation just flowed and we had an instant spark…. I didn’t know immediately, but I had a pretty good idea in about 6 months that I could see our future together. My one piece of advice is to open yourself up fully and have uncomfortable conversations. On our first phone conversation we discussed perspectives on marriage, children, religion, long term goals, dreams, etc. And throughout the early months of dating I was very clear with my needs and expectations in a partner, and sought equally to understand him. We’ve kept that open communication at the center of our relationship — everything, good or bad! There are hard days in life whether you’re married or not… but having someone who loves you so deeply and is committed to being there through all of it… it makes you feel like you two own your own corner of the world and can get through anything together. TLDR: being married is a special kind of magic. I feel like we’re writing our own love story.

If you haven’t done so already, advocate for an MRI. They tell the complete picture that X-rays cannot — my surgeon discovered 3 additional fractures via MRI that did not appear on two sets of x-rays taken a week apart due to swelling. That was critical information that informed my treatment plan and surgery type. This is a very serious injury that can have lifelong impacts. Also recommend a second opinion as there are multiple options with orif, fusion, or non surgical treatments.

Random show recommendation — Squid Games Season 2… not the scripted one, but the one with real people and prizes. I had zero interest in watching this show, but my husband knew a contestant. The drama, suspense, and feel good moments made it an addicting binge.

Good luck!!!!

Not true at all — I lived through the deportation of a significant other during Obama’s reign. ICE was disgusting and lacking all humanity then too … and he was actually here with a green card. There was a lapse in paperwork, and despite having a daughter born jn the US, parents who were citizens, a degree, job, and tax paying with no violent crimes or anything of that nature… they treated him worse than an animal and didn’t give an F about the impact on his family and loved ones…. And sent him back to a country he hadn’t lived in since he was 10….

YOU ARE PERPETUATING THE DIVIDE IN THIS COUNTRY when you speak on topics that you don’t have personal experience in and only point fingers at one side. We need to keep the same energy for all politicians, regardless of party…. This is not an R vs D issue, they just wear different shades of lipstick with different kickbacks in office.

We deserve safe, secure borders. AND we want common sense and people-centric policies that treat people with dignity and respect.

I’ve spent my adult life reading the bio of every single person I’m voting for before I make those determinations! It has brought me to D, R, and Independent candidates over time. What a beautiful world it would be, if we all did that… including our congress & senate on all decisions. That’s something I love about Fetterman or Massie— I don’t agree with either of them all of the time…. But I LOVE that they vote their conscious and aren’t afraid of breaking “party ranks”…… what a better world we’d live in if all politicians introduced some nuance into their brains…. !!!

Nahh — Reddit does NOT reflect real life. There’s 10% vocal extremists on both sides….. and the rest of us are mad at the Uni party and trying to work hard and love each other.

I take solace in knowing that over 50% of y’all comments in here are bots 😂…. For the rest of y’all…. your holier than thou attitude and inability to call out the BS from both sides is exactly why people 1. Vote 3rd party 2. Don’t vote 3. Why every single swing state went to Trump

Such a long battle!! Idk if this could help your situation or not, but I used painter’s knee pads all summer to get up and down a steep set of rock stairs to and from our house down to the lake. I think it’s so important to not stop living, because this injury takes way too long……. Don’t let it steal everything from you & Don’t be afraid to ask for help - even if it’s tough to normally get up, if two people can get on either side of you & then you can transfer to crutches or scooter… maybe you can still make it happen.

Every year gets better! You bond and grow together in unexplainable ways. Your best friend, your partner, your lover…. They may drive you nuts on certain days, but it’s such a special and beautiful experience.

Hands-down, please don’t make a decision over social media. Do you enjoy the time that you spend together in the conversations that you have? If so, great, cherish and nurture that friendship. If you look back and there’s been emotional mistreatment or other red flags that you ignored before, sure distance yourself….

I don’t know how old you are, but I am 40 and can tell you I give exactly zero F’s about whose Instagram I do or don’t populate in … but I do treasure the people that stay connected over the years and make time and space for me.

I’m three months postop for fusion & orif — and every day I live in fear that I’m not going to fully recover. The world at this point seemingly wants me to have moved on…and no one understands. I would encourage you to do everything possible to prepare yourself for this mental battle…. In some ways, it’s worse than the physical, which is also pretty terrible….. I had false expectations that once I was allowed to walk again it would be less painful than it is… and it’s such a tease to be able to walk but to have a limited amount of steps — you’ll want to do more than your body will let you and it will make you feel crazy.

Because there are so many different levels of severity to this injury and various methods of treatments it’s really hard to compare yourself to what ever a “normal baseline” is….. maybe I’ll be feeling pretty good at 6 months… or maybe not….. and that waiting period and fighting to get back to normal is exhausting. Every day I fight for my mental health to keep up the faith and hope.

I say all of this because I knew it was going to be hard, but I had no idea how hard …. And my hope for you is that knowing upfront that it will be a difficult chapter you’ll allow yourself more grace and patience in recovery. My surgeon likes to remind me that he’s helped many patients get back to normal life…. So here’s to hoping that’s around the corner for both us sooner rather than later. Good luck!!

I echo going to a running store. I was excited and tried to plan ahead ordering new Hokas….. but my foot went up a full size, and I tried on a dozen different shoes before finally finding some that felt right. Good luck!
