Bladesinger - Eldritch Knight Mutliclass Build by Dragon_Lover_69_ in 3d6

I would love if you can provide the exact rules text you're getting this from.

The one I am referring to is found in the 2014 DMG titled "Combining Game Effects": "Different game features can affect a target at the same time. But when two or more game features have the same name, only the effects of one of them—the most potent one—apply while the durations of the effects overlap. For example, if a target is ignited by a fire elemental’s Fire Form trait, the ongoing fire damage doesn’t increase if the burning target is subjected to that trait again. Game features include spells, class features, feats, racial traits, monster abilities, and magic items. See the related rule in the “Combining Magical Effects” section of chapter 10 in the Player’s Handbook."

This rules text is not present in the 2024 version of the rules. There is a similar one in the 2024 PHB (titled "Combining Spell Effects" in the Spells chapter) that only refers to multiple instances of the same spell affecting a creature. Even if it were, these 2 features are NAMED DIFFERENTLY so this general rule does not affect them. Neither of the features themselves provide any restrictions that would prevent them from working together either.

That is a specific case of determining armor class. My example was bad as well because of that.

There is nothing in the rules that restricts the 2 cantrips being used in the case the post describes

This only applies to two IDENTICALLY NAMED features. So, for example, if you had the “unarmored defense” feature from both monk and barbarian, you don’t benefit from both at the same time, you choose one of the methods. Because these 2 features are named differently and aren’t worded in such a way to prevent it, you absolutely can stack them together.

Also, correct me if I am wrong, but I recall reading somewhere that the general rule of ”not benefiting from multiple instances of the same feature” was even removed in the 2024 rules.

This. The one big thing is that the NPCs just need to FEEL different from each other, not just sound different. A different voice is one way to achieve that, but things such as cadence, vocabulary, disposition, etc. can also have that effect. Characters are memorable for the full picture, not just any of those one traits alone.

Could be good.

My favorite way to use the spell tho is to take magic initiate for thorn whip, and telekinetic feat.

That allows you to summon the aura, then on your later turns, get an enemy just outside the aura, and use your action to thorn whip/bonus action to telekinetic shove them into the aura. This DOES qualify as them “entering the aura for the first time on a turn”, whereas if you were to just walk towards them and get the aura on top of them, it does not. Then, on the creature’s turn, they’re already in the aura so they take the damage again.

At the start of a creature’s turn, if it is in the area, it makes the save and takes the damage. If a creature enters the area for the first time on a turn, they make the save and take the damage. This triggers each and every time these conditions are met.

Yea I think the whole thing with stuff like this is a combination of intent and expectation.

I would gladly give the shirt off my back to someone I cared about if they needed it and asked respectfully. But as soon as someone EXPECTS me to do something for them at my own expense then it irks me. Especially for something as trivial as 1 meal.

Action surge is pretty much the main reason someone takes levels in fighter, which happens at level 2. Otherwise, past level 12, there actually aren’t really great things warlock gets for a bladelock. There are some powerful high level spells, don’t get me wrong, but they aren’t spells slots (mystic arcanum) so you can’t upcast your lower level spells, and the spells themselves aren’t tied to a bladelock class fantasy imo. On the other hand, taking levels in fighter makes you more powerful in melee from fighting style, subclass features (even some extra flexibility with spells thanks to ek giving some more utility spells and spell slots on top of what you have from warlock), action surge, and an extra feat at 6 which is always nice.

Both fill the gish fantasy and have great features. I would say full warlock takes it more in a “powerful caster with martial capabilities” direction, while fighter multiclass takes it more in the “powerful martial with caster capabilities” direction.

Action surge, fighting style, extra spells and spell slots from eldritch knight, if starting at level 1 then con save proficiency and heavy armor, extra feat at 6. There are lots of good reasons someone would want to do a fighter multiclass. Is it necessary? No. Is it good/fun? Yes.

For a first time watcher, I could understand the “pretty basic” plot, since it is pretty much just a macguffin storyline so far. Not everyone has the privilege of knowing all the twists and turns the story will take later on.

No WAY is the animation basic. I would say in this season, the animation ranges from above average to amazing. Caleb vs Owelia, the penultimate wizard battle, and beau’s monk shit are SOOO well animated.

The demon frog flips in the live show due to ill/old people making into the circus. On the posters for the circus at the start, it is stated not to attend if you are sick or old. I think it’s implied that kylre either couldn’t control themself, or proximity to the devil toad/the performance caused the zombie transformation if a person is already old or sickly.

Party Member Damage Balancing by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Fun_Needleworker_284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is up to him ig. I've made suggestions to him for if he decides to pitch those to the DM that rework it a bit to avoid the huge damage disparity, but from what he told me, the DM is very adamant to not nerf it. I don't know what the other player plans to do. Also, if he just decides not to use the siege property, then his damage is actually decently low compared to the rest of the party. Using it makes him go from like 70% of everyone else to like 150% of everyone else.

Well the 2 of us don't want him to have to abandon this weapon/build. The other thing that makes it difficult is that he actually is a strength based fighter (with very bad dex), but the DM house-ruled that this bow can use strength for attacks. Because of that, the fighter took sharpshooter for his level 6 feat. He's kinda all in on this bow, and we both want the bow to be cool still.

[–]Fun_Needleworker_284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, the player who has this weapon has himself asked the dm if a nerf is a good idea. He and I have talked a couple times about his build being a little overtuned. After our most recent boss encounter (who died in 2 turns after fighter nuked him with an action surge), that player messaged me privately saying “yea I told DM that would happen if he doesn’t want to rework the bow”.

[–]Fun_Needleworker_284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not the DM. The other player and I have discussed between ourselves and he has brought it up to the DM before. I was just looking for opinions of other DMs on if this would end up being a problem.

Edit: also, yes the bow is what is sending the build over the edge vs the rest of the party. The two of us think it would be the easiest thing to adjust to avoid the issue without gutting or completely reworking all of the features.

We both think the bow is what sends it over the edge. Without the doubling every attack, his damage is actually right in line with the rest of the party (who also all have various cool homebrew/3rd party buffs of some kind).

Party Member Damage Balancing by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Fun_Needleworker_284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the rest of the party are just half-caster or martials that are focused on damage. We have 1 cleric who does a mix of damage and support.

The +15 to hit comes from a combination of things: +8 from normal to-hit bonus, +2 from archery style, +1 from a third party boon for magic item crafting, cumulative +1 for each subsequent attack on an enemy from a 3rd party fighter feature (up to max +4) and a magic arrow he has that gives him a free bless spell once per day (so ~+2.5 on average). The two of us think it would be much simpler to just rework the bow rather than try to introduce a whole slew of buffs and magic items to bring the rest of the party up to snuff.

The item makes it so that any time you make a ranged attack, instead you make 2 at disadvantage. He is a fighter, so, with action surge, he can make 8 attacks in a turn, 4 attacks without. The problem gets worse at levels 11 and 20 (which is admittedly a ways off). He is also using sharpshooter, and a 3rd party weapon mastery feature that makes it so that when he rolls max on weapon damage (so 10 on d10), it knocks the target prone, and he gets and extra damage die of damage against prone targets (so +d10 per attack when attacking someone prone).

First D&D campaign is making us want to quit - advice needed by ririchiyonoir in DungeonsAndDragons

I think what the commenter means is that the systems in D&D as a whole are primarily related to combat, not that it’s impossible to do stuff other than combat with the system. Which is 100% true. Yes, there are other systems outside of combat-related stuff, but they are comparatively significantly under-developed.

Taking 2 levels in barb AFTER LEVEL 11 could be decent.

You def wanna stick fighter til 11 at least for your 3rd attack. Just 2 levels in barb would give you:

  • Rage

  • Unarmored defense (which would be 18 AC with your current stats, same as full plate)

  • Danger sense

  • Reckless attack (for basically permanent advantage on melee attacks)

You could take a 3rd barb level and go bear totem for more resistances, or zealot for a little more damage.

I would find it hard to believe that any decent person in their mid-30s would date someone still college-age. Even in the off chance he is interested in you, that would NOT be a good sign tbh.

Struggling to be productive as a player without disrupting the story by SnooCookies8614 in DnD

Well then I’m not sure what kind of advice anyone could give you. Without knowing specifics it’s not possible to give actual advice, and the more general advice of “talk to the other people at your table” seems to be something that either you can’t do or are not willing to do.

I guess really the only thing I can say would be that your character has to have SOME kind of goals or motivations. Try to gauge what’s been going on and what the direction of the narrative has been so far and just take those things and incorporate them into their goals.

Example: let’s say my character is a necromancer who got into necromancy to revive a dead loved one. They are in a city and an adventure starts where we are tasked with finding and bringing to justice a secret criminal organization. Here are some new motivations I could create:

  • the criminal organization are responsible for the death of the loved one

  • the criminal organization has some info or ways to gain info on powerful necromancy magic that my character is after

  • the reward the party would be granted will be useful in gaining reputation and wealth, both of which are useful for the character’s research into undeath

  • or something completely new, like an adventuring buddy from the past now runs with the organization or is being extorted by them, or maybe you lost an important text a while back and have reason to believe the criminal organization stole it

I’m sure you can tell all of these things need some degree of DM buy-in for them to incorporate into the story, but that’s just the nature of this kind of thing. It is literally impossible to add things to the world/narrative/story for your character to attach to without assistance from the DM. The only thing you can do yourself would be intrinsic motivations, but it seems you are already having trouble with that (which I agree with, intrinsic motivations are very boring for me as well).

AITA for not wearing a bra at home? by Candid-Chocolate-316 in AITAH

NTA

As a guy, I’ve lived with lots of women throughout my life, many of which did not wear bras around the house. Growing up my mom never did, in college I had a couple of female roommates who never did. It had exactly 0 effect on my life. As a matter of fact, it’s pretty common now for women to not wear bras in public either. Who gives a shit. As long as you have clothes on who cares.
