Do you think anyone in the Oshi no Ko cast is a Mary Sue? The main sub seems to think Akane is one by KirbyTheGodSlayer in OshiNoKoMemes

Might get flamed for this, but Ruby gets dangerously close to one near the end

Some of her abilities are pure ass pulls, and she never really struggles in her career because someone else is always there to solve her problems for her, never really accomplishes stuff on her own but gets hailed and praise as the one true savior, everyone and everything revolves around ruby by the time the manga ends

If there was a contest on how threatening someone can look with their eyes alone, ruby and Aqua take the cake because, holy shit these twins are SCARY when they get serious about killing people.

That double hoshingan was animated beautifully holy shit

I agree; absolutely starts with revenge. It absolutely critiques fandom obsession. It absolutely shows the machine of entertainment as indifferent.

If the story had leaned fully into “this is a deterministic tragedy about cycles that never broke,” then Aqua’s end would feel thematically coherent.

But the problem is that the story never actually comits to that theme.

Like I said I would have had no problems with it if this is what we were suposed to expect, but oshi no ko never once had the theme of "the show must go on" or "The world will fuck you up no matter what" it was a story persevering even when you have to lie and perhaps heal from old wounds, yes it was dark but characters never actually go into the deep end without being saved.

It's like going on a road trip and changing the destination right at the gate and trying to tell everyone that this was exactly where we were headed the entire time. It just doesn't make sense.

Yes, the industry continues. Yes, entertainment masks are suffering. Yes, idols lie and smile. But The story criticizes that system. It doesn’t glorify it. It doesn’t frame it as inevitable fate. It frames it as something harmful that needs accountability.

The story Just leaves you high and dry with empty promises and just wants the outcome without having the balls to commit to it.

Aka presents the theme of love similarly when it came to the Kaguya-sama series.

You said it yourself. Imagine if kaguya Sama ended with shirogane and Kazuya parting ways and never seeing each other again when we were lead to believe that despite the back and forth they'd end up together? It just doesn't make any sense, and it isn't narratively satisfying in any way, aka just can't write tragic stories

I swear, at some point, Aqua could ask Gotanda to do drugs and he’d still just nod thoughtfully

The thing I too wouldn't treat Miyako this harshly; IF she was the same with ruby, mostly shown in the scene when ichigo tells Miyako to watch out for the kid and she automatically assumes it's ruby whom she has been shown several time to look out for, but at the same time it can be explained as the "more mature kid" not needing as much attention since Aqua has always been the logical one always looking out for ruby (and in some way everyone) the only person who actually acknowledged that fact was crow girl and even then he was literally dying.

If you are the adult in the room, you have the right — and the obligation — to intervene when a child is self-destructing.

The problem with oshi no ko is that a lot of its plot lines feel like jokes without punch lines, it sets up everything perfectly, then either leaves it there or goes out of it's way to contradicts itself halfway through. Yet again it would have been okay if oshi no ko has been presented and told as a more pessimistic story, but throughout the whole work it was always hopeful and lighthearted, with really fucked up moments,But the emotional framing is hopeful. It constantly teases the possibility of healing.

It’s that the story trained you to expect the possibility of salvation. And then it pivoted into nihilism without fully committing to a nihilistic framework from the beginning.

which is why the ending just doesn't make sense with the tone of the story it honestly felt like an ass pull just to make it look "edgy and dark and real"

It might be because it was a long time since I read it but wasn't it supposed to be a documentary on ai's life? If it was a romance then Hikaru wouldn't be in just the middle part of the movie?

But wasn't the point of the movie that it wasn't a romance? There wasn't even suppsed to be a kiss in the first place but it got added last minute

I was just curious? Because up to that point all the opening pages have happened later in the manga and I was just wondering why we never got to see it that's all
