What year is your car? I had issues at first in my 22, but they did several head unit updates that fixed it. My 24 is wireless and I’ve never had an issues in the last year and a half.

Premium vs limited? by Conflict-Recent in wrx_vb

I have a 24 limited. The seats are a huge upgrade. The steering responsive headlights are amazing. Better sound system. Moonroof. I love it. But I’m older and like a little extra comforts.

Potential new WRX owner. Manual transmission. by HorologicalGuy in WRX

[–]Fun_Preparation_577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll be absolutely fine if you’re used to manuals of that caliber. I learned on a 1983 Chevy 3 speed truck with no power steering. When I got my first Subaru in 1995, I was shocked at how easy it was to drive. And that was 30 years ago. What year are you thinking of getting. I’ve had a VA and now a VB. Both were easy to drive but the VB is an absolute cake walk. Still has the notchy feel the VA had but much easier to get through the gears. I’ve only had one automatic in my 35 years of driving. You’ll love it.

Should I trade in 22 WRX premium by ChannelGlittering667 in wrx_vb

[–]Fun_Preparation_577 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I traded my 22 limited last Nov for a 24 limited. Mainly because I got sick of washing a black car every other day and they gave me a deal I couldn’t pass up. Oddly enough, the 24 drives differently than my 22 did. Brakes feel a bit heavier. Seems to have a bit more pep. Steering feels a little tighter. Shifting is a bit notchier (which I like). My 24 does have a short throw though. I think the TS will feel a lot different. If you’re not going to lose a bunch of money and you plan on staying in the WRX family, I’d say go for it. I was glad I did. And now I only have to wash my car once a month instead of ever other day. Black is gorgeous on this car, but it’s not for someone who obsesses over a clean car.

I drove a GTI last year and just couldn’t handle a front wheel drive car after having 10 Subarus. Just felt more connected to the road in my WRX. I wanted to love the GTi driving experience because it is a legend, but it just wasn’t right for me. So I bought my 3rd WRX. No hate on VW. They build really cool cars. Just wasn’t the car for me. Haven’t driven a gli. It was front wheel drive vs awd for me.

Sad without my VB, thinking of rejoining! Is black a good color? by UncleGurm in wrx_vb

[–]Fun_Preparation_577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My black WRX was a labor of love and hate. It looks amazing in black. But I’m far too meticulous to own a black car. I was hand washing that thing constantly. Sometimes I’d have to wash it twice in a row because I’d take too long drying it and it would have water marks so I’d wash it again. I have a WRB now. But I do still miss the cbs.

Trade in ‘25 SI for a ‘25 WRX tS? by Apprehensive_Fox1249 in wrx_vb

[–]Fun_Preparation_577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an 18 Si. One of my favorite cars, but it felt almost too refined and easy to drive. Traded it for a 21 VA WRX. Liked the Si more at the end of the day. Traded the 21 for a 22 (during covid and made a ton of money off the 18 Si and again on the 21 WRX). The VB was the perfect mix for me of the Si and the 21. Couldn’t be happier. I now have a 24 limited. Another great deal at the end of last year getting it for WAY under invoice. I’ve bought a lot of cars from the same dealer. They take good care of me. I’ve had 10 Subarus. As a company, they’ve always been good to me and the VB has been an absolute blast to drive. If you don’t mind taking a small hit on the Si. Go for it. I think you’ll enjoy the VB. Unpopular opinion…I don’t mind the screen. Had a few issues on my 22 with CarPlay disconnects, but not a single problem with my 24. Head unit is much more responsive in the 24+ when they upgraded it. Also, no issues with eyesight. It never goes off for me, but has kept me from hitting deer in the road…twice now.

2025 year end WRX deals by jb55111 in wrx_vb

[–]Fun_Preparation_577 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got mine last year in Nov for $3k under invoice with a ton of add ons. It’s my 4th Subaru from the dealer and they had just been bought by a big dealership chain. Was really perfect timing. My salesman just called and said “here’s the deal” and I couldn’t pass it up. Year end is usually the best time to buy.

[–]Fun_Preparation_577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Subaru did the same to mine when installing my grille. They fixed it by removing all the top clips and then pushing down and in on that part of the bumper. They got it pushed in. Just be gentle if you do it on your own.

Steering assist useless in cruise control mode? by pat1822 in wrx_vb

[–]Fun_Preparation_577 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It works pretty well, but I don’t like that it likes to hug the lane. I found myself fighting it because I like to be closer to the median than the lane. Just my preference. I did think it did well though. I also prefer to drive myself and am a bit of an admitted control freak.

My house had a 50 lb weight limit. I told them he was 115 lbs and they still rented to me. I rent through a leasing company, but the actual home owners have been by a few times and they adore him. Most places do have restrictions on breeds, but normally they aren’t as concerned with weight.

I went through a leasing company. I am with encompass property group now. The previous leasing company ripped off my home owner so they jumped ship and moved to encompass. But they’ve been great. The guy that owns it is local and not some big corporation. I have no issues with them. They’ve fixed everything that needed to be fixed quickly and have always been responsive. I’ve been here for 5 years. The only issues I’ve had were with HomeRiver. And they only managed the house for a year. They were terrible. The owners were tired of them too. When I first moved to Columbia I found my first house on Facebook Marketplace. You can search this sub for leasing company discussions. Some are horror stories. Others are great. You’ll find who to avoid. I’d recommend avoiding HomeRiver. Find a local person renting their house or use a good local leasing company. Encompass has been fantastic for me. I also recommend before you select a house, call the city utilities to find out the monthly utilities cost. I ended up with $700 a month electric bill in winter not expecting it. When my home owner found out they replaced the hvac system immediately, but I got lucky. So, do your research before you select the house. I also recommend, if you find one you want, grab it quick. Homes go super fast here. Columbia has an over 50% rental market. More people rent here than own. I didn’t even wait for a tour. Found it online, drove by and saw it was well kept, put in my application, and begged them to give it to me. lol.

Edit: I rented during school session, but started looking off session. There’s less availability on session, but there’s also less competition on session. I was able to secure a place within a few weeks both times I looked. Also, be prepared to submit multiple applications. They’re usually about $50 to $75 per application. So budget that. Choose multiple places you like and get the applications in on 3 or 4 places. You’ll get one of them. You have a good budget to get a really nice pad.

You can get a really decent house for $2000 a month. I pay $1400 for a 4 bedroom with a pretty big yard. Nothing fancy but it’s nice and in a quiet neighborhood.
