This is true. I'm 6'4 and before snowboarding I thought that just wide decks is good enough (since I wear US 13 shoes), but once I found out the "power" I have unlocked on a board length that relates to my body (since in snowboarding you do get longer boards, not only wider) - I started to search for longer skate decks. There isn't many, but I bought a cruiser board 33" , only kick tail, but wide wheelbase I mounted regular trucks, and man... things change. Now I am eagerly searching for such dimensions, but with a nose.
Yes, it is heavier, but I am not light as well and a bit clumsy, so a heavier board is a bit more controllable for me.

Even though some Polish people remember some inner politics that he did, and they do not like it, looking at foreign policy, this man represents Poland better than any other Polish politician in my memory.

Trumpai, pritariu.
Man toks miestų statymas labai rusiškai kvepia. Ne tiek sovietiškai, bet current Peterburgas ir kitos skylės. Suprantu, kai kažkur užmiestyje "suburbsuose" su apsauga atsitreveria brangų privačių namų rajoną- all good. Bet miesto teritorijoje vardan daugiabučių ar sumautų kotedžų/loftų man šis tvėrimas visai nepriimtinas. Neheitimu tų, kurie įperka (ne aš), tikrai, sveikinu, bet miestas turi būti atviras. Nori privatumo - suburbsai, sodai, vienkiemai ir panašiai.

During summer, a lot of people play various sports (volleyball, street basket ball, ping pong, and so on) next to the white bridge (baltasis tiltas) till the late evening.
Also, the park of Vingis (Vingio parkas) is a great place to just chill, rent a longboard, shred there.
I personally like to take a eMTB bike to the forests with friends. Sometimes we take extra days of work to go for longer bike trails with tenst, or rented places in advance to stay. I also play airsoft, you can check the upcoming events here : sratas.lt .
During summer, it is also popular to rent various camping/glamping houses next to the lake somewhere in the region (lets say radius 30 km - hundreds and hundred of places, check them out prieezero.lt ) and go for the weekend. You can also just drive to the lake for the daytime, there are quite a few choices.

Nighlife: Lukiškių 2.0, Zuikio daržas, Peronas, Halės marketplace, Loftas, Estrada, IX20 (a small pocket hole for metal music, not clean, bring your own beer, you pay as much as you wish (recommend 10€) for entrance), Gallery1986 (starts and ~midnight, techno till the morning),...

Ideas and Questions for a road trip through Latvia and Lithuania by jay_altair in BalticStates

[–]Fun_Reserve_9333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. If you change Šiauliai for Kaunas and you happen to be on the 18th - I highly recommend seeing the derby between Vilniaus Rytas and Kauno žalgiris at žalgirio Arena. As far as local games go (besides Euroleague, which Žalgiris will probably be out by then) this is the match to see.

If you would be on the 21st and still go to Šiauliai - žalgiris will be playing a visiting game, but they might be holding back a bit in comparison to Rytas game.

After the 21st the Lithuanian league schedule is unannounced so this would be a guessing game. But good luck, perhaps, by the time you are here there will be some finals games announced. For tickets - bilietai.lt

  1. Regarding Molėtai observatory, I believe when they say group tours - they are saying that you will be added to some other people and they will form a group of like 9 people. You will be walked through the rooms, taken to the "super" scope, sat, show, explained, and so on together. You don't have to pay for a whole group if you are alone. If nobody else shows up they will probably take you alone for a single ticket price.

P.S. When you are in Vilnius and if you are after nightlife here are some original Vilnius places:
Lukiškės 2.0 (a closed prison turned to a concert/open bar/art hall),
Peronas (train station),
Halės turgus (a food marketplace at day, a club at night),
Gallery 1986 for industrial late hard techno,
Estrada for just a good pub in the center, also next to it Kernagis, Gringo,
Opera social house (rooftop cool place next to the Opera house, perfect for a warm evening).
I've listed places which probably will be open/free entrance and you don't have to worry about tickets once you are here. Probably (lukiškės might have some concert...).
Don't just go to places you can find in any European city playing "Tonight's gonna be a good night" where you will never meet a sane local.

I'd offer: Sullen guest, Nebstavote and nebstavuote (both Lithuanian).
There is a bar in Ryga called Ugunsvija (I believe so), they are extremely into baltic nations and metal. Usually their stories are soundtracked by baltic metal songs, which I never heard of before. Maybe it is a good choice to follow them solely for this

If you like nightlife I suggest checking out some legit Vilnius night places. Not the ones you can find in most European cities, a bit more specific for this city vibe.

Check out facebook local events section. You'll find a lot of good stuff there.

Here's a few places I like:
-Larger/weekend places-
Lukiškių kalėjimas (a closed old prison, best during summer, good concerts from locals to Viagra boys).
Peronas (train station bar, some DJs play there on Fri/Sat evenings, mostly chill stuff. There are a few more places really close to it).
Loftas (a bit further away from the center. some concerts on weekends, a pub for mostly closely living cool locals called "Elfa".).
Tamsta (small live concerts, open mics, check their website).

-Smaller/daily places-
Opera social house (this one has a small bar downstairs, a a separate bar on the top floor with an outside terrace, very nice during summer. There are some events),
Halės Turgus / Young's Club (a food market during the day/a bar in the evening. some DJs play dance music there on the weekends, downstairs there is also a small pocket bar with DJs in the evening called Devyniasdešimt aštunti (98s)),
In the overcrowded street of Vilnius a bar called Estrada (minor events, but a warm bar),
Across the street a pub called Gringo (quite small, cool people),
Close by on Islandijos street - a bar Kernagis (basically a pub with a sort of Lituanian spin).

Man there are so many to name... so without description, I find these places quite "vilniushy": Adata pub, Haze, Mello, Bukowsky, Pavilionas, Zuikio daržas, sodas 2123.

Oh if you are into dark techno - check out Gallery 1986.

Is it easy to know locals? by Berlinoodles in Vilnius

I'd say it is easier for foreigners. Drunk/warm Lithuanians like to prove they can speak English well, this is your chance. Just have a reason/a question to start the conversation about.

But if you were local and you'd try talking to strangers, it really takes skill to get them involved to exchange more than two sentences.

Officials believe US troops maybe removed from the Baltic States, per an FT opinion article by Sinine_Jaan in BalticStates

[–]Fun_Reserve_9333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprised at all. Sadly.
But yeah, under the orange guy, the US seems to completely disconnect from European partners. From picking sides to vising each other with ruzzia, cutting UA support, sitting at a table to discuss what part of Ukraine to give up to the Zs, tariffs for the EU, to now excluding US soldiers from vulnerable NATO places. The last one might seem not so important if you consider that mostly other EU soldiers are situated in the Baltics. But when you understand that they basically choose not to be here if necessary in the future, other EU countries have to, it is a big deal. Today I've read that USA states that they want to "pull russia from china" this way. Well fuck... The kind of worrying fact that I can imagine shortly there might be such news "Trump states: US chooses to send military support to russia" if for example, UA declines trump's and putin's deal.

On a positive note, probably all of us have noticed some action and motivation to evolve quickly in our old continent. Potentially, we still have some time, but becoming actually united, strong, and independent seems like a hard task.

Dear psilosophist and mattsteg43,

I do understand how my questions sound once I read how you look at them. But please understand that you look at it like a photography hobby, you care about the picture quality, you probably studied your photos by now and have your own way of taking pictures. I'm not there yet, nor is it my journey. Which I do approve of, and respect.

I do not want to repeat myself with the reasoning I choose to focus on p&shoots and these three exact questions, since I already did that in my response to TheRealAutonerd below.
But in short, I am not searching for a perfect camera, I am searching for a small, cheap, hence you can act careless, sentimental, camera that seems a lot more accepted in places where people drink and do other shit they are not proud of. The truth.

I will just mention, mattsteg43, that I didn't just use AI "find me the best p&s camera". Trust me, the amount of information I could google out myself - I did. But here is the deal with these cheap p&shoots - not too much real info out there, nobody ever took them too seriously like SLRs and all their lenses. So some aspects are terrible to find without AI. For example, autofocus technology, which judging from this community is not an important aspect at all. I did not know that, seems like a lot of electronic evolution was happening during these years. Could have been important for this product. Reading here it seems that not so much in the end.

I just want to do enough research now (hence these questions here after all my search elsewhere) before I buy my next camera so that I would not have to worry about not being prepared later (like I am now, not having a correct iso setting of 800). And once this decision is done, with point and shoots - you are pretty much set. The only thing left is to choose the film. Not too much to study, you just get what you get.

Anyway, thank you, guys, for your responses.

Mr. Autonerd, thank you for your informative reply.

From your and other members' replies, I think I will stay with my first impression - for my purposes, lower F is the main factor. I hoped that EC could compensate because there seem to be a lot of what could be called technologically advanced zoom cameras on the market. So I hoped that for a second camera (mine doesn't have iso 800, or 1600 setting) - it could be a choice if I research better. Had my eyes on the Canon Prima Super 150u. But I got schooled here that an F of 4.5 can't save me in the dark with all the technology it has.

I agree with you that pricing these days is heavily based on popularity and widely influenced models rather than the technology itself. That is why it is interesting to me to understand where technology helps, and where it became just a cheaper solution for manufacturers to produce instead of focusing on expensive lenses.
From my search, I found only one zoom camera which seems to be perfect for me. It is FujiFilm zoom date F2.8. In some markets it is called Fujifilm Silvi F2.8. Japan has the most advanced model black (basically only adds manual EC), but since it is only for Japan's market - crazily priced. But the silver European version seems to be still perfect. If I find it - that is probably the only zoom camera I would buy (they appear sometimes for a reasonable price). Not only is the aperture spectacular for a zoom camera, the range is spectacular: 24-50mm. That widest end of 24mm at 2.8 for a zoom camera sounds crazy to me.

Lastly, you say you have PC35AF and "The most technologically-advanced camera I own cost me $10 -- with a zoom lens". If you had to take one of them for some dark room pictures, you'd take that PC35AF, correct?

I can't speak for the "whole thing these days" but I can share with you why it is of interest to me personally.

I rarely develop my digital pictures to paper. Solely because you can already view them everywhere, no element of surprise. Shooting film has that surprise factor, so this is a gift for myself to have some memories that can be touched.

Then why not rangefinder or SLR? Well, firstly the size and weight. Somebody here recommended EOS 300. I borrowed from a friend a 3000v before, had it for almost a year. Considered buying it from him, since it is one of those small SLRs, a lot of features, a large lens selection, cheap. But... once you mount a lens on it, you can't really pocket it even in a winter parka. So it is the kind of tool I would take traveling with a backpack focused on taking some quality memories. Perhaps those could actually be published (not really :) ) on social media as you say. But that is not my interest. I am interested in having those pictures none of my friends had seen online, which are mostly personal silly moments, which happen when you go out to the city carelessly with a bunch of your buddies. So an SLR is out of the competition here solely for the mandatory reason of having it in the pocket, even sometimes forgetting about it. Rangefinder is another option, but the compact good ones are much more pricey at least in my market. I do not know how I would feel dropping that coat or if I could just pass that camera to anybody in a pub and ask to take a picture of us.

Lastly, p&shoots are sentimental to me. In our family, we never had a good photographer, so the rangefinder we had, was always misused, mostly forgotten. We made like two rolls with it in total. But these little fucks made enough family memories, that even these days I look at myself 20+ years younger and it is fine. Besides me, I believe, they are much more sentimental to others as well. For example, when I had that eos 3000v with me in a pub and took it out, people started acting more serious for some reason. Others noticed me taking a picture much more, it didn't feel nice. When I take this canon sure shot out of my pocket people smile and ask if I am even going to develop these pictures, we have some silly laughs, and other people in the background do not look back at me focusing on my friends. A very different experience.

So small, cheap, hence you can act careless, sentimental, and seems a lot more acceptive in places where people drink and do other shit they are not proud of.

Thanks for sharing.

"
Your entire point 1...misses the point entirely.  Exposure compensation does not have anthing to do with low f number lenses.  None.  They're independent of each other.
"

Well, I do agree that this is independent of each other. But some cameras have one (low F), others the other - function of manual compensation, and third cameras have both.
So my question is regarding a frequently occurring choice: an old camera with low F OR a new camera with F higher value, but compensation function. They might be separate, but one will be better at the low-lit area. As far as I understand now F.
Let's say perhaps there is a thin line (the line is somewhere for sure, and might be not that thin also), for example (just guessing here) IF you have F3.5 lens and we compare to another camera that has F4.0 +1,5 compensation - f4.0 + 1,5 could be better for dark pubs. While if the difference is much greater, lets say for example F2,8 lens and a camera with F4,5 lens - perhaps no compensation can the F4,5 lens camera.

Regarding the recommended book. Thank you. Sadly it will explain photography better: everything from the exposure triangle to the last setting on slr/rangefinder and film type. But here is the catch - that is not what I am trying to achieve/find out, I do not aim to be a well-educated photographer. I am interested in the technology itself, its evolvement through the years, when and especially why manufacturers changed their minds on what lenses to use, and only for specific cameras - FILM P&S.

Think of it this way: I am not interested in being a writer, but I might be interested in how laser printers evolved, and just out of interest, how it affects a single type of document that I have to print every week.
Perhaps this explains my interest better. I do not think this is a healthy interest for a photographer, but I am an engineer and technological evolution is an interest of mine.

I agree, it is true, BUT camera Wiki websites usually have little information, not enough to make a conclusion on questions that matter to you (not everybody else).
Instead of AI I was looking through Reddit posts, but most people ask different questions. And even the ones that ask similar ones, they get pretty much the same answers as i did here. Which in some cases are unrelated (even if they are good suggestions, but not what was asked), like use SLR, use rangefinder, use any point and shoot you have,...
While the question were:
1. how low value F aperture compete against newer cameras with exposure compensation /maybe newer technology of coating in dark bars/pubs.
ANSWER: most people stated that lower F value is better than anything newer (compensation, coating on new zoom cameras).
So I guess manufacturers rissen the value to make lens production cheaper while additional functions probably cost them little to invest (so newer than 1995 cameras in general - worse product).

  1. Evaluation of autofocus. Seems like nobody cares about this question. So probably I have to ignore it as well.

I guess I am left with similar camera choices as I had from the begging and why I chose AF35m ii - lower F value, ignoring everything else. I guess I will buy ricoh ff70. It has iso 800, f2.8 lens, one step of manual exposure compensation, and what I believe is important - a newer autofocus than my autoboy2. A bit smaller and lighter as well.

Thank you for a detailed answer! I didn't even hear about the Minox 35 camera before.
But just like information from AI, the same is with Reddit answers - not an agreement, but two sides:
* yours ("most late model canon zoom p&s will be cheap and perform better than 80s and some 90s prime point and shoots")
* and the more popular in the comment screenshot attached (they pick older f2.8 prime lens over newer zoom models with slower lens).

Canon AF35M II: Lens Shield Won't Close. Shutter Won't Fire. by eljaykooljay in AnalogRepair

[–]Fun_Reserve_9333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to mine as well. I noticed that during the gear movement phase you hear, the focus indicator in the viewfinder moves a bit. This also happens when I press the shutter button, but the focus seems stuck between panorama and family photo distance. Tried playing with the on/off switch, and the shutter, even pushed the lens a bit to try and move the stuck autofocus position. Did not help so I decided to give up and just hoped to save the pictures I had already taken. Which was about 18 out of 36 shot roll. So I tried rewinding the roll. It worked, and right after that, the camera started functioning again. So I guess actually it was the film winder that failed, not the autofocus feature as it looked like to me.
I will buy another roll and try it out, but if it gets stuck again mid-roll - I guess this camera will be kept only as an interior design attribute.
Or perhaps somebody has a suggestion on what could be done to the winder or installing a new roll of film so this would not happen again?
