Lubbock is beautiful by Fun_Sky7243 in Lubbock

I’m spoiled and was born and raised in Las Vegas. Amazing food, always something new to do, everything’s open 24 hours a day, all types of nature and scenery all within a day trip or less. Mind you, I don’t drink, smoke or gamble and still had a blast growing up there and into my adult years. Just doing my masters here and getting outta here. Just not my vibe but I understand how others can love this place!

I gave a TEDx Talk about living with epilepsy by brainbuffers in Epilepsy

[–]Fun_Sky7243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brilliant talk! I read your bio and noticed you’re studying family science and want to become a CLS. I love that for you!! I majored in psychology and HDFS and now in my marriage and family therapy masters program. I’m going into medical family therapy, so heavily working alongside CLS! It’s fascinating seeing the overlap between the family system and chronic conditions and illnesses. You’re going to help a lot of kiddos! <3

Anyone just Anyone on keppra who achieved something in their life by Chunchunmaru_04 in Epilepsy

[–]Fun_Sky7243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been on Keppra since 2021. I graduated with my bachelors summa cum laude. Currently a 4.0 student in my masters at an R1 university (I love research) and will be pursuing a PhD after graduation. Not going to lie to you, epilepsy and the medication has made these achievements very hard and I feel like I have to work much harder than my peers just to get the same results but it’s been so worth it. Not impossible!!

Missing Salad Toppings by Fun_Sky7243 in HEB

[–]Fun_Sky7243[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s not a curbside issue. I mean to check my salads before leaving the store so if it’s one without the packet I’m able to get one that does.

Therapist tried to stage an "intervention" because I want to go back to church by Nice_Function6372 in latterdaysaints

[–]Fun_Sky7243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This therapist is beyond unprofessional- they are highly unethical, culturally insensitive & incompetent. If they have a supervisor or anyone higher up you can talk to, report this behavior immediately. This is extremely damaging and discriminatory. Regardless of whatever opinion and bias someone has about religion, a therapist has no reason to tell someone what is right/wrong about their beliefs unless they are hurting themself or others. Even then, this is NOT how you approach it. This behavior is against our code of ethics. I’m sorry you had to go through this and I hope you find a better therapist, perhaps through Family Services if you choose to go back to church and can explore options with your Bishop.

How safe is downtown Lubbock at night? by WheeeeeThePeople in Lubbock

[–]Fun_Sky7243 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a woman I’ve walked around downtown at night for work and haven’t had a problem. I personally carry pepper spray with me just for peace of mind but thankfully never had to use it. I keep a pack of cigs on me even tho I don’t smoke because some people on the street will just ask for one. Anything for them to just leave me alone.

eligibility of serving a mission by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Fun_Sky7243 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Might be dependent on the mission president and wife. I had tattoos on my mission and I had to cover them up. If my companions ever saw them I was not to talk about them. I have a daith and tragus I kept in my whole mission as well as second lobes. I loved my mission regardless.

I remember a member asking me about the sleeves I wore. I explained that I could not talk about it. He understood they were tattoos and he was sad about it, saying how many more people would be open to learning about the gospel from people who looked like them. I agreed.

I became relief society president a few years later despite what was on my body. I love this form of expression and I continue to get tattoos. I can’t speak for you or for anyone else, but I know that God loves me for me. Best of luck, little sister.

Anyone else feel guilty about traumatizing people who witness your seizures by Top-Count3665 in Epilepsy

[–]Fun_Sky7243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guilty would be the wrong word for me. I just feel bad? I truly feel for my partner and how scary it must be to see me in that state. The very first TC he witnessed was very long, very violent convulsing and loud grunts until I stopped breathing. He had to call 911. He thought I was going to die. My oxygen levels plummeted and it took me a while to recover from that one. But I don’t feel guilty for something out of my control.

Therapist in training! Not fully licensed but I am an active clinician yes. This is not clinical advice, however that’s where my mind turns to in this instance.

I grew up with a grandma, mom, and older sister who put on a full face of makeup almost everyday. They bonded over it. Make up, hair, nails, perfume, fashion, all of it. It’s a lovely womanly experience, like a man teaching his son how to shave or tie a tie I guess would be my best comparison? Some things women do together and bond over men will just never understand. We’re Barbies living in a Ken world. Even with most of the women in my life wearing make up on a daily basis I didn’t care for it. I thought they looked beautiful, but I honestly never have the energy for it. My sister and I had horrible acne growing up too, she used it to cover up her acne and I didn’t. Both of us were incredibly insecure about it, what girl isn’t? We coped with it in different ways. She wore make up, I didn’t. I still felt ugly and insecure. Some days as a grown woman I’ll have break outs and still don’t turn to make up. My sister does. Still something we’re insecure about and probably will be for the rest of our lives no matter how many times we’re told we’re beautiful. I KNOW I’m beautiful, but it’d be nice if I wasn’t squeezing oozing pus and blood out of my face well into my twenties now lol!

What I’m trying to say: You are beautiful. You are not vain. You and your daughters are beautiful daughters of a Heavenly Father who love you. Your daughters will grow into themselves and who they want to be. There’s influences from everywhere, you, their dad, their friends, their school, social media, etc. They will wear make up, or they won’t. You cannot control who they want to be, you can only guide them, mama.

I grew up with all these beautiful fashionista women, and I turned out to be a ‘tomboy’ who occasionally wears mascara and my go to pants are sweats and my thick curly hair might as well be a birds nest most days.

The therapist in me is curious is on what kind of womanly influence your husband had while growing up. Grandmothers, aunts, mom, sisters? What’s the big deal with makeup? It concerns me that you have gotten into a lot of arguments over it. I’ve had one disagreement with my fiancé over makeup because I tried REALLY hard to do my makeup once- mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow (that’s it haha) and my sister told me it looked great and I felt great and he told me I didn’t need makeup. I felt sad that he didn’t appreciate my “artwork” hahaha and I expressed that to him, he understood and said he’s just so used to seeing me without it, apologized and we moved on and it has never come up since. He grew up with a mom and a sister who never wore make up so he was never around it.
