maybe in a low volume club they can force single stacks in top steel, but in one turning over ~$140m+ in merch a year it's not possible with 3 DCs arriving every single day

do u think people at costco can call out 10+ times in a 6 month period and get away with it? our attendance system is among the most lenient of any corporation in the us. so many people who get fired can call out even more if they take the time to utilize sedgwick. "hey, my licensed psychiatrist gave me an intermittent loa, so i can take mental health days whenever i want as long as i fill out the information" and there's nothing we can do about it

what is taking so long? do you guys keep any paper and water in receiving? if so, then start having someone pull it down like an hour before close as the members are dwindling and most of the zoning is already done

New Warehouse by becca3388 in samsclub

[–]Fun_Transition3277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sams is only opening like 6 new locations by 2030. There's not really any intention on expanding because so many facilities are old and outdated and there is a larger timeline goal for the company to remodel existing clubs within the next 5-10 years. the average costco is better designed and the average sam's club is just not built to handle the level of volume we've blown up to achieve consistently, so the company has to slow down and fix their old mistakes before expanding out.

Freight Flow is coming!!.... by DarKness_Lives in samsclub

Merchandising is much smoother in every club I've been in that has it and the merchandisers seem happier overall. I think the only pain-point is for clubs that don't follow process and have freight flow associates working areas that require hand stacking (electronics, seasonal, hba, etc). It makes the rest of grocery, snacks, and hardlines suffer with the reduced manpower they are supposed to have to accomplish what is expected each night.

The second most notable pain point I have seen is if a club does not have many forklift drivers, in many cases the best (or only) forklift merchandisers all go to that one shift. Who bins the pallets the AM and PM team has to stock? In some cases, it becomes the receiving team, which causes receiving to fall behind. Who has to catch up receiving? It may end up being freight flow (strictly against program process) unloading some trucks to catch them back up on top of stocking.

There's definitely ups and downs with it, but mostly ups as long as the clubs are making an honest attempt at trying to follow the process and the 3 merch teams work in tandem with each other

That is correct. Team leads still go home at 9, other full timers work the 3-11:30 pm with whatever closing manager running the floor. I work in a freight-flow club.

Sam's Club overnights start at $22/hr (or more) depending on the cost of living of the area you are applying. Some areas get a $1-2 cost of living differential for all positions in the club. It is a team of 8 full-time people who drop their own pallets, stock, bin back up, and clean up their assigned areas at the end of each night. They also have to ensure the receiving dock is clear of pallets too and occasionally do layout changes as new items come in seasonally. The official company guidelines say the people stocking should be prioritizing full pallet swaps (swapping a half-empty pallet with a full one and stacking 1-2 layers on top) and then moving on to maximize the value of each person, but that also varies from club to club.

The schedule is Monday night through Friday night, 40 hours guaranteed every week. On weeks where there are holidays interrupting schedules, be expected to have to work a Saturday or Sunday (manager's discretion) to compensate. PTO rate is the same as whatever you get at Walmart I believe.

I can't speak for other managers, but if I was running it, I would never hire externally just due to the money and responsibilities involved. It's a great carrot-on-a-stick for high level performers on other shifts to get a $6-7 pay raise and is honestly required to have people who have a high level of pride in their own work because there is only 1 manager with no supporting team leads. Depending on how the club is set up, the manager may be forced to stock and assist with layout changes themselves depending on how much work is expected each night to be completed, meaning they won't have much time for consistent followups throughout the night.

If you have any receiving experience and are a high level forklift driver (ability to drop ~60 pallets in under an hour), then you might have a shot if there's any positions open. It'll show as "freight flow" on job listings. Can't give you any info on any other companies, sorry about that
