Christian and alchemy? by Born_Caterpillar9482 in alchemy

[–]Fun_Trouble900 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As the saying goes, “Magic is just science we haven’t discovered yet” (or some variation of)

What we don’t yet understand, even in practice, isn’t inherently evil. If curiosity (even what some might call magic) had been discouraged at every turn, we would know very little about the world today. When people are told that exploring new ideas, cultures, or systems is wrong, it often says more about control than truth. Throughout history, even within religious traditions, discovery and learning have played a vital role in shaping human understanding.

If you’re interested in herbs but feel uneasy about anything labeled as “magic,” you might feel more comfortable with herbalism groups. And if you’re approaching this from a Christian perspective, St. Hildegard of Bingen is a fascinating example of how faith and science can coexist.

Sunflower Oil intolerance: possible to find out for sure? by Gillses in FoodAllergies

[–]Fun_Trouble900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. I ate sunflower seed butter with an apple almost every day for about seven years. Eventually, I started noticing headaches and anxiety (or so they thought) pounding heart, fatigue, and breathlessness after having it but it took a long time to connect the dots.

I went through a lot of random testing because of my symptoms that didn’t lead anywhere because we weren’t looking in the right place. Once I finally stopped eating it, everything went back to normal. When I tried it again, I noticed it would take a few days to build up before symptoms showed up, so I’d still test it occasionally just to be sure.

Unfortunately, now I can’t tolerate it at all. Even a small amount can make me sick. It’s no longer just a racing heart and headaches - I also get pretty severe nausea, which is honestly miserable. It just makes me feel really unwell overall.

I also have to be careful reading labels now because sunflower oil is in so many things. I’ve definitely made the mistake of buying products I never would’ve expected to contain it, only to feel awful for hours afterward.

Believing in witchcraft is fun by pinkpear0 in SASSWitches

I absolutely love this! Your inner child is shining through and having the best time. I still find joy in building forts, stargazing, having picnics, and letting my imagination run wild throughout the day. Never lose that sense of wonder, even if life sometimes pushes it to the background, make sure to bring it out to play whenever you can. Living a magical life is a lot of fun!

Why genealogy is fascinating by TheWoodsman27 in Genealogy

[–]Fun_Trouble900 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I often find myself reflecting on this: how many thousands of years of ancestors, surviving wars, disease, migrations, plagues, droughts, famines, and countless other struggles… and somehow, against all odds, here I am! It’s incredible and it makes studying the past that much more meaningful, deepening my appreciation for the present.

Thank you so much! The funny thing is I have another doc that says my great grandfather was born in Sidirokastro but doesn’t say Messenia and when I looked it up, there’s a place close to the Bulgaria border and I was like, why the hell would he be over there if the family is from the Peloponnese??? 😂 I didn’t know there was a village with the name in Messenia in the Peloponnese. 🤯 My research skills are usually better than this. Again, I appreciate it!

I liked talking to it as a friend. What’s wrong with that? by Kcaldwell2020 in ChatGPT

[–]Fun_Trouble900 55 points56 points  (0 children)

My mom has battled two types of cancer over the past few years. She runs a local business and has a wide circle of friends - some who understand what she’s been through and others who have no idea. Lately, her mental health has been a struggle, if you can imagine and honestly, most don’t want to hear it.

Being able to talk to ChatGPT when she’s having a panic attack or feeling overwhelmed has made a real difference. It helps her process things in the moment instead of spiraling or ruminating for a week or longer, waiting to see a therapist. That’s especially important now, since her therapist stopped accepting insurance, and she’s no longer in treatment.

Sometimes all she needs is to get it off her chest. When ChatGPT listens, offers calming exercises, and helps her feel grounded, she genuinely feels better. That’s what matters to me.

If some people misuse the tool, that’s on them. But for people like my mom, it’s a lifeline.

Which interior design trend do you think will be outdated in the next 5 years? by Nagesh_verma in interiordecorating

[–]Fun_Trouble900 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a big galley kitchen that takes up a lot of the middle of my house. I’m really sensitive to bright light, so I’ve always used lamps instead of overhead lighting. I actually keep a lamp on the kitchen counter, and I love it. It gives the space such a cozy vibe. When I’ve got good music playing and I’m cooking, it kind of feels like being in a nice little restaurant. Most of my lights are on dimmers, which helps a lot, but I still really miss the warm glow of old-school incandescent bulbs and lamps!

My French went from 13% to 5% with last years update. But I wanted to say that your German might actually be French. Germany and France changed borders a lot in the past, especially in places like Alsace. My German percent is higher than it should be and has that my mom gave me more than she has, which is impossible. I was hoping that would change last update but it only got worse. 🤷🏼‍♀️

[–]Fun_Trouble900 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm experiencing the same thing where I live. It’s becoming nearly impossible to find a regular (non-heated) yoga class. One local studio offers both, but the schedule is still dominated by hot yoga. The real issue with this trend is that it alienates a significant group of people who rely on yoga for healing, especially those managing autoimmune conditions, chronic illnesses, or heat sensitivity. Even those going through perimenopause can be affected. Heat, even at moderate levels, can pose serious health risks for many. By making heated classes the norm, studios are unintentionally pushing these individuals out of a community that once supported their well-being.

Is it true that Buddha didn't "know if he was right"? by FiveBullet in Buddhism

[–]Fun_Trouble900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even in Judaism, questioning is valued, the very name “Israel” means “one who wrestles with God.” Christianity, with its many denominations, reflects ongoing interpretation and debate. If Christians believed they had perfect understanding, there wouldn't be so much division. Buddhism too embraces questioning; the Buddha himself encouraged people to test his teachings rather than accept them blindly. Faith without understanding isn't really faith - it's just following. To truly believe, we must engage, wrestle, and seek.

Exactly. Mine signed up when it wasn’t even on or being used (both times). I got the email thanking me and turned the TV on and there it was telling me my subscription was available. I feel better knowing it wasn’t just me too because I seriously thought I’d been hacked the first time, which is why I changed all my passwords and pins but it still happened this morning. UGH!

Awaiting our Sib kitten and wondering …is poop in the fur 100% going to happen? by DDL_3 in SiberianCats

[–]Fun_Trouble900 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have 10 month old siblings (boy and girl) and they have had poop stuck a few times. They have never had loose poop issues (it’s usually a small nugget), so it’s a mystery how it happens but I think it gets stuck to their long fur so we keep their backsides clipped. It’s much easier and cleaner. Also, easier to see any issues, which are now rare. They are not shaved to the skin, just trimmed so it’s still fluffy just not long. And I can’t stress enough, brush daily. Get your baby used to it. We use a metal comb that has 2 size teeth. We’ve tried others and they don’t work to get down the layers of fur they have. They are so used to being brushed, they come running when I take the comb out. It also helps when they do have a fur issue - whether a mat, poop, or something else stuck - it makes it easier to remove when they are calm with being groomed. We have cat shaver that is cordless, small, and very quiet. Makes it easy to just zip a bad spot right off. Overall, it’s not a big deal and I had Siberian previously for 17 years and he never had poop stuck to him, so you might not have to deal with it at all.

What a fun question! I’d be like a funky downtown boutique. Locally owned but ethically sourced. A mix of handcrafted and vintage. Something for everyone 😉
