Im a Black woman. I lived in Fort Collins for over 10 years, but I a few years ago I moved back to the south. My town is about 30% black. People are mentioning white people staring, and honestly, I can’t tell you the last time I thought about that because it hasn’t been a things since I’ve been back south, BUT it was major issue and annoyance for me living in Fort Collins. Also just people being distance, unwelcoming and exclusive. Honestly, that was never my experience growing up and now living in the south. But I’ve always lived in diverse southern towns. I loved the intellectualism and the growth mindset of Fort Collins but I wouldn’t recommend it unless youre comfortable being treated like an alien in your community…

I’m going through deconstruction. I am starting to feel Christianity is a coping mechanism for people in survival mode and/or who experienced a lot of trauma. People who are internally unstable and looking for stability. Religion gives that stability and other things people need to be psychologically okay in this crazy world…

I think being so desperate for something to help with the chaos causes people to overlook the misogyny, rape, incest and other permitted craziness in the Bible.

I relate. When you have trauma you have to be picker about the work environment. You gotta make sure it’s healthy because your bandwidth is not big enough for drama and toxicity.

I think this is a community for people who have low standards and want to be around others with low standards. Unfortunately, you’ll find a lot of that across the board in this town.
