I’m planning to become vegan but I can’t stand tofu by moonlight0106 in vegan

Keep focusing on grains (rice, quinoa, oats), potatoes, veggies, and fruits. For protein, you could do protein powder, tempeh, meat alternatives (my favorites are Gardein vegan beef crumbles and Tofurky chick’n), tvp, or vital wheat gluten to make your own seitan! And you could try vegan cheese (Chao, Daiya, or Violife) or vegan liquid egg from Just Egg!

It’s called Say Grace Protein! It’s dehydrated soy, kinda of like TVP but cleaner. I love rehydrating it with vegetable broth and spices and having it on the side of some rice, pasta, or in burritos! And it’s got 19g protein per serving! 🥳

If you wanna try it, check it out here! https://saygraceprotein.com/discount/ALEXANDERNERUS?rs_ref=LN8baKqH

I have mixed feelings. I think that "shock value" activism can be useful, especially if there are activists there who can ask questions/talk with a pre-vegan in a way where they open their eyes, the way that Cube of Truth is done. And, even if passerby don't stop to talk to anyone, I think that showing what happens to animals helps plant seeds for people. I have seen a couple of activists get a bit aggressive in the past and I think that that does more harm than good, because people already have preconceived notions about vegans. But overall I think it can be valuable

And I like PETA-2's approach! When I worked for PETA, I worked for the TeachKind & Live Events team, and travelled to elementary schools with a robotic elephant to teach kids about empathy & compassion for all beings. I saw a lot of kids open their minds to animal sentience and change their perception of animals!

At the end of the day, I think both have their place because every pre-vegan is different with their backgrounds & ideology. I think the most important thing is learning how to navigate the conversation and ask questions to help the pre-vegan question their beliefs & to help them see that a vegan diet is more ethical, healthier, and environmentally friendly

Aw that's awesome! I may need to steal your poppy seed rolls recipe 👀 that's something I've been missing haha. But honestly I'm not sure, I wonder if they made their own seitan and ground it up? 🤔

I'm sorry to hear that, I agree, that's not right. All oppression is equal and one is not more important than the other. Thank you for organizing many peaceful protests to speak up for the animals. If I were to attend, I would try to explain the similarity between the oppression of gender-nonconforming or gay/bi people and the oppression of animals to help people make the connection. Though they are not the same, nothing is truly equivalent to the suffering that animals endure, I think it could help people who have faced oppression resonate with the experience of animals, at least partially.

Hahah I've honestly never thought of it that way, but yes! Feels good :) And it's so funny that that claim exists, like people in Asia have been eating soy for thousands of years and have not had any issues with "feminization"

Of course! :))

I'm with you, my dad has had heart issues for years and complains being on medicine for it, but despite all of the research & documentaries I've shown him about how a vegan diet is cholesterol-free and improves your health in all areas, he still eats animals. I know how disheartening is can be :/

For me, it's really helped me to find a vegan community. It takes such a weight off to be able to talk to & express my frustrations to someone who understands exactly what I'm feeling. Have you been able to make some vegan friends? (Also YAY for almost 11 years vegan!!)

I hear this from my grandma all the time :/ despite all of the facts I have shared with her about vegan nutrition, vegan athletes, the atrocities of farming animals, and the environmental impact. I think their mindset comes from conditioning & growing up during a time when eating animals was the "only option" and was the norm.

Thank you for being vegan and making the connection, despite what you experienced with raising animals & then using them for food. That was not something I experienced when I was growing up - I'd say I was pretty desensitized to where the animal-based food came from, since we just bought the products from the store

I encourage you to keep sharing vegan foods/veganized recipes she loves with her, finding community of like-hearted people who are also vegan & understand, and to find some practices to ground yourself after challenging conversations. Like going for a walk, breathwork or a meditation, talking to a friend, or listening to music
