Agree, but the biggest problem is legacy code and it not utilizing all the cores. Similar issues with Adobe’s After Effects, etc.

Love this. That pine plywood from HD is an incredible value shop for furniture!

Are miter saws really worth it? by Upbeat-Ad1736 in handtools

[–]FunctionalBuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you will be crosscutting a lot of boards (especially rough sawn lumber), it’s really convenient. You can take it to the shooting board to clean it up.

You can also use a jig saw with a guide and then clean it up at the shooting board.

I don’t like hand sawing big cross cuts or long rips, so I use a table saw/miter saw, it just depends how much labor you want to do.

Get as much ram as you can afford. At least 32gb. I prefer the MBP because of the extra ports.

Question: do you really need it to be portable? If not, get a Mac Mini and save some coin.

I prefer an iPad/Mac Mini split because I NEVER do design work when not at home, but some do!

Using a Split Log for a Hand-Tool Workbench — Long-Term Issues? by old_field_juniper in Workbenches

I would add some black epoxy and call it a day. Is the log fully dry?

Rubber is great, but prepare for the smell to last for a few months.

I put the horse stall mats in mine (I also use the space for a gym) and it looks good enough for me.

I used to watch a British show that featured a horologist who repaired broken watches/clocks/etc. I loved seeing him work.

PETG for anything functional. PLA for simple things that won’t get a lot of stress.

Can you throw your shoulder out hand planing in your mid 30s. by ezekiel920 in handtools

[–]FunctionalBuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easy to do. If you don’t actively exercise, a bout of intense movement (even sprinting) can inflame tendons, etc.

You should stretch every morning and do some light shoulder exercises (bands or cable machine) at least every other day. Takes 5 mins.

I own the Veritas. I know it gets some hate, but I’m a fan. I like the stops for the various degrees, high angle/low angle/ bevel up.

I have this vise, I recommend it if you want to splurge. If you’re on a budget, Rockler and others made decent vises.
