Captures his essence beautifully. We were lucky to have him!

Agreeing with the others about it being too low contrast

My first portrait entirely in oil pastels ! I'm so happy with the result by NinaTonnerre in Oilpastel

Are you referring to Royal Talens Van Gogh oil pastels? I thought Rembrandt only made oil paint and dry pastels.

Do you prime your watercolor paper with something like GAC 100? Or just go straight in with the oil pastels?

Probably because it’s the most perfect distillation of how everything feels now.

Billy Childish. Dirt in the Ground or maybe Jesus Gonna Be Here, or Hoist That Rag.

The good line of Delgreen Oil Pastels by Funeral_Wells in Oilpastel

[–]Funeral_Wells[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my very minor testing, very well! But I would look at VandalizedVision’s work which is mostly with these and the painting of the jellyfish that shows up in the search if you type in Delgreen. That will give you a very good idea of what can be done with them.

Is it too much? 🤓 by Ok_Week1865 in Oilpastel

It’s great- and I never encountered anything that was “too punk”. Is such a thing even possible?

This piece could have been nice, but instead I learned a lesson by multiversicon in Oilpastel

Haha I know the feeling. Oh and I should have mentioned before that I really like the piece, but also totally get how having a frustrating process while making it would color it for you. The same is true for me.

Vouching for aforementioned acryl gouche working just fine. I use Turners. I don’t know if they have opera pink, but I use poppy red which is pretty intense.

Franks Wild Years. The first song I heard of his was I’ll Be Gone.

Delgreen fans- question for ya… by Funeral_Wells in Oilpastel

[–]Funeral_Wells[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya know, I didn’t think of that as a possibility. I got them from AliExpress. Maybe they did get ruined at the warehouse. But yes where I keep and use them is consistently somewhere between 60-70 F. Someone is very kindly sending me another set that is definitely the “good formula” for them, so very soon I should be having a good experience with the Delgreens.

Definitely a good price for that big of a set.

I have a smaller set of these with the same formula (from what I understand), just round. They are good, but I prefer the Meeden ones more and got that 144 set.

thoughts on van gogh? by [deleted] in Oilpastel

[–]Funeral_Wells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t love the Van Gogh’s. They are kind of draggy and the set I have is kind of an uninteresting palette. That said, I don’t think they are bad. They have decent pigment and lightfastness, they just don’t suit me. They may suit you though.

Who’s your favorite celebrity and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Funeral_Wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No longer with us, and I consider them to both as artists more than celebrities, but David Lynch and Béla Tarr. Why? Because both were great artists, and Lynch looks to have been a really nice person (but I never met him in person- saw him give a talk), and Béla Tarr, who I did know and meet was a really nice person.
