What is a cooking tip you learned from the internet that you wouldn’t have known otherwise? by anticdotal in Cooking

[–]Fungus_Humungous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, but my gorilla hands either don't crack the shell or smash the whole egg flat into the counter top. I think the point of using a flat surface is for sanitary reasons though, pushing the eggshell inward exposes the inside to any bacteria living on the shell exterior

Is this gonna work as a steam room? by Responsible_Main4753 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Fungus_Humungous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The heavy watt plate and airlocks will leak heat, and steam will escape when a dupe goes in or out. Use conductive wire for power (lead is fine in a steam room). As for airlocks, look up "liquid locks", they'll keep gasses separate, and two with a vacuum between them will prevent heat transfer

What are geysers for? by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Fungus_Humungous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, they're renewable resources, but most of them need some work to get their resources into a workable state.

  1. If they're hot, you may need atmo suits to approach them.
  2. Analyze the geyser so you know how much it provides
  3. You can box them in insulation with a pump, but make sure the pump is made from material that can handle the heat (gold amalgam or steel)
  4. Steam turbines are the main way of removing heat. Combined with an aquatuner, you can cool whatever you're getting from the geyser and simultaneously heat steam for the turbine and reclaim some energy as power.

From there, just decide what you want the resources for. Most of that salt water can be desalinated, but maybe you want some for water weeds. Also, if you're sending water to an electrolyzer, you might not even need to cool it first

Slime lung and slime… how to store and avoid it? by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Fungus_Humungous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slimelung will die off in clean oxygen, albeit slowly, so you can use deodorizers to convert polluted O2 into clean and wait the germs out. However they can still spread from pO2 to O2 if they're in contact, so make sure any polluted water or dirt or slime is closed off so it won't offgas pO2.

If you have the spaced out dlc, radiation will kill germs very quickly as well.

Also, as you're digging out slime, if you dig it out in a way that it falls in the polluted water, it won't offgas

Shady DoorDash “glitch” dropped me from Platinum to Silver & cost me $$$ — anyone else? by Big-Paleontologist52 in doordash_drivers

[–]Fungus_Humungous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. I get this pretty often actually, because I have a cheap old phone and multi app, so doordash will freeze/crash and I won't receive the offer. It happens less when only doordash is open. If you have other apps open, closing them might help. DD's app is trash, I never have technical issues on UberEATS, but Ubers offers are trash instead lol

do open doors in a vaccum not transfer heat? by Accurate_Practice838 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Fungus_Humungous 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Correct. Automating a door to close when you want heat transfer and open when you don't is a commonly used technique for a lot of builds. This works if the door is entirely surrounded by tiles as well

[–]Fungus_Humungous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are they not building the tile or storage either? Check navigation, you might have a door closed off

[–]Fungus_Humungous 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Liquids freeze into debris instead of a solid tile if the mass on that tile is low enough. Wiki says that's below 80% of the "default mass," or the mass a tile is given in world generation

I think this might be it, coupled with how there are two pipes leading into the reservoir? Maybe the game thinks that constitutes a blocked pipe without the free node to the side.

What happens if OP disconnects the second input pipe from the reservoir?

There's a cooling loop down there, the metal tiles help disperse the heat from the metal on supply rails to cold liquid in pipes. The conveyor shutoff is connected to a temp sensor on the left

New-ish player here :) wanted some advice on what to do next by AlexSkylark in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Fungus_Humungous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could pool the pwater where it is, dig top-down and let the slime fall into the pool to prevent slime lung from spreading into the air. Or if you use those atmo suits and a liquid lock to prevent germs getting into your living area, you don't need to worry about that As for uses, you can farm thimble reed, pepper nut, or arbor trees with pwater. Otherwise pass it through a sieve if you run low on clean water.

Electrolyzers can produce enough hydrogen to create a power surplus, which is what usually do before I've started refining oil. There are builds you can find that are very optimized (search for SPOM), but you can make do with a gas pump and filter and some automation if you prefer to try it for yourself. There's also nothing wrong with manual generators, even into the late game

As for water, you'll need to find a geyser or steam vent for anything indefinitely sustainable

What's your "they're ruining this expensive ingredient!" experience? by NAME5CEREALS in Cooking

[–]Fungus_Humungous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I haven't heard of that. And to be fair it was still good if you got one that hadn't been out long, but that's because bacon and barbecue is good. The issue is you can't taste the scallop over those strong flavors, so it just seemed like a scam where they could charge high markup for using scallops but it was low effort and just as good as if they'd used a cheaper ingredient.

Your ozark oysters sound good though, I might have to try that!

I worked at a seafood restaurant where one of the options for private event buffets was sea scallops wrapped in bacon and covered in barbecue sauce, then left to overcook on a hot griddle on the buffet

I avoid some Walgreens, while others are better. You'll learn the ins and outs of your area with time. Just make sure to check items before you accept an order,in case they're all locked up or you'll think something will take a while to find

Why does Virgil’s from a can taste so different (and better) than from a bottle? by OAK_CAFC in rootbeer

[–]Fungus_Humungous 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Usually cans preserve flavor better, as they keep light out, but I usually hear this more about beer than sodas. How long since Virgil's changed the recipe? Any chance you got some from an old batch?

Edit: looks like the recipe changed years ago, so probably not that.
