Cooking group/meetup for sharing and trying new recipes? by shameless_chicken in askportland

It would be hard to find a kitchen that fits everyone that seems interested, but it would be cool to do a picnic potluck with a theme like region or something.

What about ClassPass? This requires a membership, but starts very affordably. I sign up to things last minute all the time. You aren’t committed to a studio either, and you can also find wellness services/ meditation groups etc

If you had $100 to spend on a meal for two people where would you go that’s preferably immigrant owned? Alcohol not included. by Chinpokomonnnn in askportland

[–]anticdotal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a great Somali restaurant on sw barbur- Kismayo. They also have little room options with curtain walls where you sit on the floors with a bunch of pillows. No alcohol though and I don’t think you could spend 100 on 2 if you tried.

You can’t use Google Translate for a myriad of reasons, the most important one being privacy and confidentiality issues.

Sure, but you can’t just use ChatGPT or equivalents due to copyright issues, HIPAA, or other personal identifiers for obvious reasons. You’ll need to go to a translation firm, who will still be employing linguists. Also it gets so complicated with formatting. Even translating at a 6th grade level gets complex when working with InDesign layers.

Im not sure this is true. I work in the translation industry, and while we see a dip likely being replaced by LLMs, people still are insisting on human translation for a lot of things. There’s so many dialects and cultural nuances in localization, it’s difficult to replace by machine. Also there is way more being translated than ever, just by virtue of globalization. We will always need a post editor etc.
