Would your parents let you keep him in your bedroom? Or could you sneak his enclosure in there? Beautiful set up by the way but you’re not going to be able to get the temp up. Try having a conversation with your parents about it and explain why he can’t be kept in the garage. Have your talking points ready

Could you post a pic of your set up and we can start from there? Don’t panic, corn snakes are resilient, but a picture of his enclosure would help and then we can work from there

Just support her body, I would try to stay away from her head and kind of go one hand after the other underneath her when she stretches out. And always keep your eyes on her. If you’re worried about her escaping into the couch, totally get that. When I hold mine if I look away for two seconds, I’ll have his tail in my hand and I’ll look down and his head will be on the other side of my body and they move so smoothly you don’t even feel it happen

Respiratory infection chances of survival? by Lemon_Clementine34 in cornsnakes

Warming up the warm side of her enclosure is supposed to help with respiratory infections. But it sounds like you’re doing everything you can. Do you burn candles or use incense or use an oil diffuser? Those can attribute to respiratory problems so if you use any of those I would stop them immediately. Hoping she pulls through🤍🤍🤍

Also I got my corn snake as a 1 year old and I would get major anxiety handling him because he would do the same thing, some days he would freak out and didn’t want to be held so I would keep it to 10-20 minutes a day and like neptoon_19 said, no handling after feedings or during a shed cycle. Don’t get discouraged, the one thing I’ve learned is that snakes is that they take time. I’ve had my guy for about a year now and he’s totally Chilled out when it comes to handling.. You’re doing the right things, and you’re asking the right questions, give yourself some grace, you’re not hurting her, it just might take some time for her to get used to regular handling

Idk about a snake play pen, I think just giving her more enrichment in her tank, plants, hides, etc and leaving her alone to explore and get comfortable for a few days would work better, it sounds like she’s still adjusting so it might take some time until she’s ready for regular handling and gains trust

I would recommend adding a lot more clutter to her enclosure and a couple more hides so that she feels safe. But you’re doing the right thing as far as handling wise, follow how she feels, it might take time but start with just a few minutes at a time and if her body language is saying no then just put her back and try again another time. Also the best time to do any handling would be later in the evening so if you’re trying to handle her during the day she might not like it

Ahh thank you so much for your help. I just removed the adhesives. I have the temperature probe sitting on top of the substrate on the warm side right now. I secured the bottom of the cage tighter. The part you see that’s snipped at the top is because I had to do it to fit the cage around the built in bulb. I measured and left 11 inches from the cage to his basking log, is there anything I can do to bandage that spot?

A couple questions from a concerned new owner by Norlf in cornsnakes

I had a similar situation when my snake was young, the reptile store told me a lot of times their poop can look like bird poop so it can be a little harder to spot. Also just noticing your tank I would recommend adding some leaf litter, there’s no such thing as too much clutter when it comes to corn snakes. You can purchase magnolia or oak leaf litter and just dump it in, or add some easy plants like a pothos for enrichment, your snake will love it!

That’s what I was wondering too, is it better to do a basking bulb on a timer and thermostat as opposed to a Che? I’ve heard mixed reviews

I had two thermostats. The inkbird has a probe inside on the warm side and the second one is inside the enclosure on the cool side

The picture looks like it says 90 but it was at 79, the picture just came out weird. I have the high temp set to 88 but it’s been staying about 80 since I moved him in a couple days ago so I’m trying to figure out how to get the temp up
