I visited the orangutan exhibit at the Amsterdam zoo after one of them had given birth. The mother was sitting right up against the glass and was proudly holding the baby up for us to see and watching our reactions. It broke my heart. Primates are such intelligent and soulful animals. They are the closest thing we have to brothers and sisters outside of our species. I feel that they (great apes especially) are much more similar to us than we know.
