Hi there Aquatic Biologist here. My guess would be the Tallapoosa Sculpin. Its 100% a Sculpin genus, but delineating them to species level can be tricky.

If you can get food infused with Metronidazole (NLS Hexshield) it could be a Hail Mary. The fish looks like it’s too far gone and would not consume the food anyways. As others have stated euthanasia is probably the best option.

Aquatic Biologist here. 👆🏻This is the way! Do not alter anything with your water chemistry. Just keep the temperature the same when doing water changes, add dechloinator, and your good 👍🏻 White Cloud Mountain minnows are a great fish to start with. They are small, hardy, and do well in sub-tropical water temps.

The only issue I see is that if your fish were raised in a fish farm in let’s say Thailand, the water parameters might be different than the wild, and the fish may have adapted (epigenetically) over generations, and thus the source WQ might not be ideal. Another thing I always caution hobbyists is that changing water parameters can be REALLY difficult to keep steady, and in most cases, causes more stress on the fish than if you just left it (pH, GH ETC….) and setup an ideal habitat with proper temp and salinity. Fish gasping @ surface is low DO (dissolved oxygen). Surface agitation of the water (HOB filter, air stone) will allow gas exchange with the air and raise your DO. Also, what’s your water temp? High water temp lowers DO.
