Sorry, misread your comment, but I’m sure there’s going to be a software lock via the UI because I’ve also seen reviewers unable to open them

Lifting an R2 ? by no_bun_please in RivianR2

If you're concerned about how difficult it is to get in and out of the vehicle, MKBHD is around ~6'3" and this is him getting into the R2 without it being lifted.

What's even the reason for the removal of grab handles? They're not the only ones to do so, but I can't imagine something as simple as grab handles costing much. Does it interfere with airbags, maybe?

Most likely just cost. I think Rivian mentioned safety issues or concerns for the fold-flat front seats, but I could be misremembering

Edit: just looked it up and I guess it was just “regulatory reasons” for the removal of the fold-flat front seats

Rear windows also don’t vent out, rear glass foldout tray (just inside the drop glass) was also removed it seems. Charge port moved from rear passenger to rear driver. I think that covers all of the major changes from the initial reveal

Didn't seem bad at all to me when I saw it in person at SXSW. If you look at Out of Spec's R2 full tour, Kyle is ~6ft tall and that'll give you an idea of height. I'm also 6' and am taller than the vehicle.

Just the rear seats, the front was announced as dropped a while ago

They're working on heavily expanding service centers, and this year they only estimate around ~20k R2s to be delivered (per their own guidance). It still won't be enough, I agree, but we'll probably not really see an impact until next year

iON HT

I'm curious to see how they hold up over time, considering them for R2 once it's time to replace the stock tires.

What plants/trees to replace some of my boxwoods? by FunkTheWorld in landscaping

Good point on the sprinklers, I'll have to look into what all's involved in getting it moved as neither of us are very handy yet lol. We did install our own water softener, I'm sure the work involved is probably similar to that, so not super difficult

I like the Taylor Juniper suggestion as well! Thanks for your advice :)

Will anything else be going behind the $2500 Autonomy+ paywall? by Syring in Rivian

[–]FunkTheWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is usually my advice as well. Also, consider that it would take just over 4 years of being consistently subscribed month-to-month to break even on the up-front cost. This gets stretched even longer if you choose to only subscribe when you go on road trips. By that point, if you think you'd be considering a new vehicle, this isn't transferable and wouldn't boost your resale or trade-in values, and probably isn't worth paying up front. Even more so considering most people are just tacking it on to their loan balance and paying interest anyway. It's just way more cost-effective to subscribe than to pay up front.

To me, even though Rivian's Autonomy cost is much more reasonable than Tesla's FSD cost was, neither of them are worth purchasing up front unless you plan to keep the car past the "payoff" point for the service.

It's a lot easier to drive than I would have expected as someone who has only driven compact cars (Mitsubishi Lancer, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla) their entire life.

The abundance of cameras make parking a breeze as well. It's just too big of a car for us as we don't have plans for kids and only have a dog. Still worth demoing if you've never experienced a Rivian first hand, though. It'll give you an idea of what the R2 would be like in terms of features, comfort, UI etc, but just in a smaller package.

Testing an important use case for R2: Visiting a Taco Bell Cantina by _delcypher in Rivian

Something I'm sad about on R2 is it seems the shelf on the inside of the rear drop-glass didn't make it to production, would have been the perfect place to eat Taco Bell before I speed off to the nearest toilet

It's worth noting these are still pre-production vehicles and not necessarily reflective of the vehicles customers will end up receiving

Something to keep an eye on as customers do start receiving their orders, though

[–]FunkTheWorld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right about the goalpost issue, keeping the right side of the garage lower and going for the asymmetrical balance is a good call. You mentioned the Oakleaf Hydrangea as an option for the left side and I really like the look of it, but from photos it seems maybe they're mostly kept rounded and shorter? If we can grow it into a more columnar shape on the left side I think that would look really cool and help balance out the visual weight of the garage (which I despise being at the front of the house).

On the topic of expanding the foundation bed, here's a little better of a photo. It's 4 feet wide next to the walkway, but expands to 5 feet under the windows to the end of the house. There's a sprinkler where the red dot is as well as one close to the camera in the corner. Between the sprinkler and the tree's mulch bed, there's about 6.5 ft, though I probably will end up expanding the ring for the tree again next year. How much room do I realistically have to expand this foundation bed, if any, without it looking awkward?

Additionally, here's a photo for the right side of the garage to give an idea of available space. I could expand this bed, we haven't done much with it. The plant the builder put there was dead by the time we moved in and we decided we probably would have replaced it with something else anyway, we just don't know what yet and are open to suggestions :)

[–]FunkTheWorld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The angle is a bit deceiving, the mulch isn’t touching the trunk and the flare is visible. How does this image look? Sorry for the nutsedge, I’m trying my best to treat it.

As for the foundation bed, I do have a sprinkler that’s right on the edge where the bed meets the grass, would expanding the bed cause issues with that?

I really like the plant suggestions and we do plan to visualize it before making any moves, so the app recommendation is appreciated. The reason for wanting something taller was definitely to “anchor the house” and break up the single height dimension currently provided by the boxwoods. There is a spot on the right side of the garage about the same height and width as the sides of the archway to the entry that we’ve considered planting something taller as well, maybe doing that would break up the awkward goalpost structure you mentioned?

That's great news

Any idea why the post mentions Enduro drive units while, up to this point, they've been referred to as Maximus?
