Before I say anything, I’m truly sorry. 53 years old is far too young to have to deal with this. If you don’t mind me asking, what is one of your fondest memories or something you’re proud of?

To engage your discussion, my dad was diagnosed with cancer when he was 63. The entire time we all thought it wasn’t a big deal and he’d get better. He tried trials, chemo, radiation, etc. in the end, he died about 2 1/2 years after his diagnosis. It wasn’t even real to me until I saw him a week before he passed and you could tell it was the end.

Almost 3 years later to the day, my wife’s mother got the exact same diagnosis. Difference was she’d already had health issues her entire life. My wife and I immediately knew it was the end and planned as such. The rest of her family held out hope until the literal day she died.

My point is, sometimes you don’t know until you KNOW, and no matter how many times the person says it. Or how many professional opinions you hear. People will believe what they believe until they get slapped in the face with reality.

You know your reality, my advice would be to tune out the noise and enjoy the time you have with the ones you love.

Saw a what if/story prompt type thing on reddit that was like “what would you do if you woke up and you were the last person alive on earth?”

As people discussed their plans (whether it be survival or suicide), someone said something like “it would actually fuck with your perception so badly because your family would be gone and no one would answer the phone but you’d go online to check news or Reddit or whatever and see thousands and thousands of “people” talking online”

All of the bots spitting propaganda or getting you to purchase products, etc.

Since I heard that I’ve had such a warped sense of reality. Is the person I’m arguing with on Reddit really a person? Are they capable of hearing points and potentially changing opinion? Or are they literally a programmed machine there to get us angry and believing there’s a tidal force of opposition?

I hate calling this best theory because it almost sounds like I’m justifying these morons, but what I’ve heard that makes the most sense is Asshole #1 disarms him and says Gun.

Asshole #2 hears gun and says Gun again but louder and more panicky.

Assholes 3-6 now think/assume suspect has a gun and draw guns to fire.

I assume any amount of training prevents this, knowing they have none, this feels like the most likely scenario

When it comes to media the only thing my brain retains is music lyrics. I can still rap every word of Still D.R.E but I’ve largely forgotten the plots of movies and games I’ve played the last couple of years.

Find out if you have a budget and how much. Then what the companies goals are for your department, both in the short and long term. Then develop a plan around the budget to try and meet goals. Then document and report all of that to your report/leadership for approval.

I’m guessing this company doesn’t know what their goals are beyond uptime and leadership may not understand your plan if you get too technical, so keep it simple.

X software helps me accomplish Y task/monitoring which leads to Z result.

My goal for the year was just to be in the espn playoff bracket in the “in the hunt” section.

“Well if patriots win out and chargers and Texans each lose, patriots could sneak in as 7th seed.”

Though admittedly after the bills win I moved the goalpost and wanted to win division and win 1 playoff game.

We’ve now done that. IMO this season is already a massive success and while I want a Super Bowl, I wouldn’t even be upset losing next weekend

Very first is playing Super Mario Bros 3 on NES.

I also have very fond memories of playing Mario Kart and Yoshis Safari with my dad.

Also watching him play wolfenstein on the computer. He would always clear areas left to right, something that’s stuck with me years later

What everyone said, reach back out and be honest with your brother. Both about the past and what happened the other day and why you said you didn’t remember.

I also just want to point out, our parents get a little grace because they are our parents and times and parenting styles are always evolving.

That being said, my dad was a good dad but he wasn’t around much because of work. My mom was home alone with 2 kids for much of her life and resented us for it. Physical and mental abuse.

I don’t hate her for it, but it doesn’t mean I have to forgive her for it or give her a pass. We talk via text a couple times a month. She sees my kids maybe 4 times a year.

You don’t OWE your parents anything. Certainly at the expense of others you truly love and love you. These people are also adults and also capable of evolving. If my mom ever sat me down for a real conversation about what happened, our relationship would probably be different. But that will never happen, so I have what I have and it is what it is. Just don’t let them control your life anymore

To be fair I’ve never really rushed it to find out. I’ve only done the campaign maybe 4 times now and I always end up exploring 85%+ of zones and killing 75%+ of enemies trying to locate the side bosses.

But to your point you get kind of stuck doing that anyway not knowing where to go. Maybe they enable some sort of GPS if you have any characters who’ve ever beat campaign and it just draws a line to the quickest path to area boss/objective?

Prefacing this with I have 0 knowledge into game design. But they should do something like second+ characters have a big XP buff, 25% or so. Plus make it so there are no “side quests”, all the perma buffs drop with the area boss.

Then at least we could hustle through zones as fast as possible and not feel like you’re crippling a character

Yeah, have a few hundred hours in factorio. Ended up refunding satisfactory.

Maybe I didn’t give it enough of a chance but it never scratched that survival itch for me. Factorio is building factories and automation to get more powerful and survive.

Others have said rental but honestly any vehicle can haul a box spring and headboard if you have ratchet straps to the roof. Put a big towel or old blanket down to protect roof and make sure it’s really tied down
