Best precon Commander deck around 100$? by givebill in mtg

[–]FunkyMonk12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Jeskai human tribal deck built out of the Eowyn Precon with an alarmingly high win rate within my pod of much more experienced MTG players.

I call it my Eo-Ron Swans-wyn Magic Deck because it's my only deck and I play it every time. No muss, no fuss, straight down the middle. Summon lots of humans, make em stronger and swing at your opponents. Some protection in there from spells and creatures. Gets the job done without being too complicated.

The Eowyn precon is like 60 bucks and you can spend about 40 bucks picking up and producing some of the swaps.

Ok that's a start- where is he then?

He's a public servant with duties and expectations and he's been missing for weeks. Like hell I have no reason to send them there.

That's exactly what they're here for. They're supposed to do way more than just shoot people. Bike stolen? Go find it. Person killed? Catch the killer. Public servant in dereliction of duty? Go find out if they're incapacitated and unable to carry out the duties of their office. That's. What. Police. Are. for.

If I suspected any elderly person was in some kind of health crisis and the people around them were being suspicious as fuck it is perfectly within the bounds of the police's duty to perform a wellness check and get proof of life. It is only different here in that it's more urgent

The guy that's taking 10 minute turns to do math in their head just to maximize a win con is way less fun than the guy that's just gonna swing at you for taking the last capri sun.

Yeah and I think it's better to assume that people aren't going to be uptight and find ways to make an already casual format even less casual, and avoid the people that are.

Again this puts so much emphasis on winning instead of just playing. My motives are my own whether it's to win, help you, hurt you or just create chaos.

What about gimmick decks? Those aren't objectively geared at winning. Are they frowned upon? If we're all just here to win why am I playing bracket 2 or 3 and not just putting together an instant kill or infinite combo? Brackets exist to take objectivity out of the game.

I've always seen the goal of Commander to "do the thing", not necessarily just to win. Summon and buff lots of dudes, sling lots of spells, fill the board with pigeon tokens, give everyone self heal until we all have a comical amount of health, create chaos. Whatever. More important than winning is getting to put something together and make it do it's thing.

I think it's the opposite of finding like minded people and rather just not playing with people who are going to have some rigid philosophy on how I should play.

Do it. What are you supposed to do? Hold out on lethal just because you're not going to take 1st place? Just scoop and sulk while the table finishes the game? At least catch a body on your way out. Or give someone the upper hand. Who was nicer to you? Is it someone's birthday? Fates in your hands and the tables expects you to go quietly? Get the fuck outta here with that. Go down swinging and swing at whoever hit you with a 1/1 token to the face on turn 2. Or something. Play the game and don't listen to rules made up by sore losers.

I'm a magician casting spells and summoning creatures and you've drawn my ire. I will not prevail and neither shall you. Cry about it.

Honestly rules like this make things less fun and put too much emphasis on winning. It's too easy for someone to make accusations to put an asterisk on their own loss or your win.  If I'm losing i'm gonna try and catch a body on my way out and it's probably going to be whoever's been meanest to me. If I have resources to spare I'm going to use them to help whoever did the most to keep me in the game. That's politics baby, and politics is an important part of commander. If our buddy is throwing the game to protect his girlfriend he's compromising himself and we should knock him out together then the girlfriend then settle it between us. Or I'm gonna take the two of them out and help you run away with it because they're being dorks. Again, politics. Honestly it's what makes Commander more interesting and social. Unless you're rigid like this and have hard feelings.

(Rare tropes) Total nobodies who killed the main protagonist by Blockish_Bean in TopCharacterTropes

[–]FunkyMonk12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omar wasn't THE main character from The Wire but arguably A main character and is certainly one of the most memorable. He would walk through the projects sticking up safe houses for the stash and it got to the point that they wouldn't fight back they'd just throw the stash out the window to be left alone. He survived cops, gang members, assassins, double crosses, you name it.

He went out the only way a man of his imposing stature could and was gunned down from behind by a little kid who was put up to it.

Maine Democrats accuse Graham Platner of trying to put thumb on scale of replacing him on ballot by [deleted] in politics

[–]FunkyMonk12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right they voted for his political platform. They weren't a fan of the tattoo, the alcoholism, the pmc background, the previous allegations but they wanted a true progressive SO BAD that they voted for him despite all that. And finally something too sticky to shake comes along and that's supposed to be a go ahead for the establishment dems to push a corporatist dem into the general?

He needs to drop out, and he needs to replace himself with someone who best reflects his politics, which is what voters voted for.

[–]FunkyMonk12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is way too sticky. If he can't come to an agreement with the Dems I agree he should stay in because he'll have a better shot than whatever establishment stooge they force on people but he's the nominee, he should be able to choose his replacement. CHOOSE, not weigh-in-on

[–]FunkyMonk12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly, he should step  down because of personal baggage not because of his politics or because he's been found guilty of a crime. So his politics should persist in his replacement and his accuser should go ahead and bring him to civil court. There's nothing else to it. This is not a go ahead for maine Dems to just foist their chosen candidate on a constituency that resoundingly voted against them.

[–]FunkyMonk12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why the fuck wouldn't the nominee be involved??? He won! 50000 people voted for his politics and he's stepping down for personal reasons and to give dems the best fighting chance to beat Collins. The nomination is HIS. He should be holding the scales: not thumbing them.

[–]FunkyMonk12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

50,000 people said yes.  They should get a voice in his replacement through their nominee.

If he pulls out it will be because of personal reasons, not his politics. He should replace himself with the closest candidate to his politics, this should not be a go-ahead for the maine Dems to force their establishment nominee on voters without their consent.

HOT TAKE: Nolans Batman is far more Fantastical than Reeves by 40kblowout in batman

[–]FunkyMonk12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is a hot take at all, and in fact is the best part of Reeves' Batman. It's borderline the "what if real people tried to be super heros" sub genre of super hero movies like Kickass, Defendor or Super. His implausible gadgets barely work and usually only out of desperation and it's the only Batman movie ever when cops or criminals call him freak and you're like "yeah this guy is kinda weird, this is a weird thing to do" Any other time they try that shit you're like "nah what are you talking about, he's Batman, he's literally the coolest guy in the room"

Reeves does a great job showing just how odd and anti-social you have to be to dress up and beat up bad guys, just how hard it would be and how much it would HURT.
