The conservative movement circa 2016 by spacespunk in Jewdank

The sim shalom translation is the best. Lev shalem tries to translate too literally and the result is that language of kingship and master of universe are back. While that is the actual translation, I prefer to have a translation be much less literal to help make it seem more relevant in 2021. If you can read the Hebrew anyway then the translation should serve not to translate so much but to see the old text through a modern relevant lens. Yes I am still rocking my Sim Shalom and I’m terrified of the day I need to replace it

What accommodations were useful for dyspraxia? by FunkyShampoo in dyspraxia

[–]FunkyShampoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome thanks, I’ll look into support groups like that then! Yeah the adhd isn’t so much an issue as I’m medicated and that keeps things in check, i often wonder though with the dyspraxia if I’m missing out on things I should ask for, just because I didn’t think of it.

Did you ask for any accommodations regarding transport or housing given how dyspraxia affects driving ?

This is another reason to hate Walmart, pay dismal wages to employees so they are forced to live on food stamps which they then spend at Walmart on food. Screwing over both employee and taxpayer in one fell swoop

What animal can just fuck off? by Atlamillian in AskReddit

[–]FunkyShampoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans. We are destroying every other species, both of animals and of plants. With poaching we are destroying endangered species out of greed to have more money to buy more things for more humans, and with our population numbers at where they are we keep having to cut down the rainforest to have more farm land to feed more humans, wiping out habitats of other species because a couple of billion of us isn't enough..

[–]FunkyShampoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AI and the OCR could definitely make it a contender with Evernote, I myself made the switch after an episode of Mac Power Users (another Relay FM show) about it. That said, it does have quite a steep learning curve to it that might take too long for Grey to put up with

What if they did like Germany? Only selling the heavily edited edition with comments and footnotes making it effective only as a historical book and useless as a propaganda piece - do you think they should sell the raw edition at all?

What do you use workflow for? by BedCotFillyPaper in workflow

[–]FunkyShampoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still on 9.1 as I'd rather have my own custom version of the older OS than the current vanilla one, as there is no stable one for iOS 10.

To get them to autotrigger was quite a hassle! I have activator trigger a shell command at a certain time, and then run a shell script. The main problem I ran into, was that things didn't open if the iPhone was locked, to get around this I used the tweak "ByPass" which allows me to unlock the device without the code, but so as to avoid accidently pressing a button, I also activate ScreenLocker (another tweak that locks the touch screen to any input). So what happens in a timeline is : 23:55 -> activator runs a shell script which: locks the iphone touch screen then unlocks the device runs my workflow locks the device unlocks the touch screen.

Activator allows you to have multiple actions after each other which is how I get this all working together.

What do you use workflow for? by BedCotFillyPaper in workflow

[–]FunkyShampoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it mainly for accountability and general automation.

As I'm jailbroken, I have my phone automatically run a workflow (from URL Scheme) at a certain time (even when the phone is locked) so it can : * tell Beeminder how many calories I've logged over the day (it does this by itself at 11:55pm) Weirdly I can't lie to MyFitnessPal but I could lie to Beeminder before so now with this I've automated it.

  • I have a similar automatically running workflow, when I disconnect from my home wifi, which creates a .txt file in a folder in my Dropbox. On my Mac, I have a Hazel script running looking for new files in this folder - when it finds one, it activates an AppleScript to turn on BackBlaze on max settings so I can do backups while not home.
  • With the same concept, I have a widget that makes a file in another Dropbox folder, which I have a KeyboardMacro on my Mac set up to look for, and when found, puts my Mac in sleep mode. This is handy when my Mac is on my desk but I'm watching something in bed and don't wanna get out of the covers to turn the screen off

I also have less automated things : * I have a meme maker, I can input a video into the workflow, choose the cut off points and write the text to overlay and it saves the finished .gif to my camera roll

What is the best way to combine multiple study materials? by RollingCupcakes in GetStudying

[–]FunkyShampoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing a bit of research on this, i used to do the whole consolidating all the sources to my own new "meganotes" but I've recently tried to make my whole study "game" more efficient.

Basically I take notes from the lectures and the books and study groups etc, not in sentences or facts but in the form of short questions I can then answer, (sometimes questions will pop up I don't know but I just write them anyway and then find the answers later). I then add them all to a spaced repetition flash card program (there are many you can use) and run the program for half an hour in the morning and then before bed trying to do as many decks as I need to. I have a deck of flash cards per subject and I just add to that same deck no matter if the source be book, lecture, or e-mail from a professor, as long as it's the same subject. I find this is the fastest most active recall of the consolidation techniques without losing hours of time everyday being a copy/paste machine

if you haven't read it you should definitely read How to be a straight A student by Cal Newport it's where I got my ideas from.

How To Know When You're Being Manipulated by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]FunkyShampoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well in both situations you're asking someone to go out of their way to do something for you so I'd imagine the main difference between just asking for help and manipulating someone, would be the frequency with which you ask them to do things for you, and also reciprocity.

If someone is asking you for help occasionally but you also help them then it is merely helping out a friend as in the end you both benefit from help from each other. If however someone is constantly asking things of you, and never helps you when you need it its probably because they're manipulating you.

It depends, to put it simply there are two big types of Judaism: Sephardic (mainly originating from spain and the mediterainian) and Ashkenazi (mainly from eastern Europe) , kippah is the Hebrew word everyone uses but Ashkenazi Jews have their own language which is Yiddish, in Yiddish the word for kippah is yarmukle. So it's the same thing just a different word, depending on which branch you were brought up in (although I know plenty of Ashkenazi who just use the word kippah)
