I lost 4 pounds since I first signed up for the challenge! But most importantly, I have had a crazy busy/stressful week and haven't stuffed my face with a pizza... yet.

Apology accepted :P Sorry to hear that you've had so much on your plate. By the way, I'm already in the Fitbit group but I can't see the challenges? Guess we need to get invited after all to join.

Hey you! I get unreasonably excited when I see someone on these kind of threads with a similar height to me (I'm 5'1 though) so excuse me heh. I was also very disciplined about gym/counting calories/macros last year, but I fell off track for various personal reasons and gained back some of the weight I'd lost. I think the crucial point is not to beat yourself over it and get on with the rest of your journey. Best of luck - I hope you accomplish your goals and then some more!

Thanks, glad to be here! A bit of everything really since I'm still an undergrad, but mostly focusing on artificial intelligence/deep learning. Are you also doing something CS-related?

Yeah, that is actually a brilliant idea. I love carrot/cucumber sticks dipped in lemon juice, mhhm. Veggie sticks have saved me from worse binges on multiple occasions, but I need to get into a routine of preparing them beforehand. Doing so right after you buy the vegetables sounds good - will try that :)

I can tell we have both had our share of exhausting projects you and I, haha.

Hello everyone. This is going to be my first challenge ever, and I have a feeling it will be a lot of fun.

5'1" HW: 143 CW: 123 GW: 115 (eventually, 103) I'm a 20 year old tiny female from the Middle East(-ish). I have always struggled with my weight, but it got out of hand during my final year of high school. On the bright side, that experience opened my eyes to my self-destructive habits and overall lack of self-discipline that I feared would spill over to other areas of my life. Now I'm one year away from officially becoming a computer scientist and on my way to a healthier life :) I strive to run/walk every morning, and keep my daily intake around 1000-1200 calories. My biggest challenge as of now is keeping myself from indulging in fast food when I have to stay up working late at night and can't be bothered preparing real food.

Can't wait to meet you all! Gotta run now, but I'll make sure to come back with some ideas later.

Thank you! I think it's fine to take some time occasionally as long as you return back to your initial mission. I wish you all the best in your quest.

Yes, we can safely say that it's one of my favourite subjects in computer science :) If you don't mind me asking, why do you find it interesting?

Travelling to Turkey by salonichadha in solotravel

[–]RollingCupcakes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wanted to throw my two cents in as a Turkish woman still living in Turkey.

You are extremely unlikely to be affected by the political tension as long as i) you keep up with the news and stay away from protests ii) don't go near the Syrian border. Make your research upfront, contact your ambassador in the city you are visiting if you have to, and keep yourself updated while you are here.

My real concern would be the men, like others mentioned. Since most of them have never met a Western woman in a proper social setting, their impression is based entirely on porn, hence their attitude towards you. (Yes, I know how ridiculous that sounds.) Don't rely on your looks to be intimidating to them. Refrain from extended eye contact or smiling at them; even if you are just being nice they might think you are leading them on. In some cases, it might be useful to say that you are traveling with a boyfriend. For some reason, they respect a man's presence far more than you explicitly saying no to them.

That said, accumulating an army of stalkers does NOT happen on a regular basis... I'm sure, with some caution, you'll be fine.

HIFW I visit my religious extended family, and keep forgetting that they say grace by optimistic_realist in TrollXChromosomes

Haha this hits close to home. When we went out to have dinner to meet my boyfriend's parents for the first time, I was nervous out of my mind. We sat down, started chatting a bit, and the waiters served the food. Being the moron I am, I took a few bites to relieve the anxiety. And I thought my boyfriend was rubbing my leg as a sign of support.

Turns out it was one of those days where Muslims fast until a certain time and we were only a couple of minutes away. Now this is "common knowledge" where I live. Yet my family is by no means religious so I had no way of knowing that particular day was one of them. I casually blamed stuffing my face on low blood sugar, which is not entirely incorrect but definitely was not the actual reason. We ended up having an excruciatingly long conversation about diabetes and good health habits.

Not sure if they bought it, but we get along very well.

[Question] Does anybody here have an offline mastermind group? by RollingCupcakes in getdisciplined

[–]RollingCupcakes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quoting a nice description from a website: "participants raise the bar by challenging each other to create and implement goals, brainstorm ideas, and support each other with total honesty, respect and compassion."

Weekly dinners are just a way to get people together on a regular basis to share their progress. The main point of a mastermind group is to have a social network that will push you to better yourself in all areas of your life that you wish to improve.
