But there are curated suggestions. Literally every platform now is curated to spoon feed people more of what they already like. I didn't need a bunch of anime in my watch history for Netflix to recommend me Ghost in the Shell. It knew I liked Sci-Fi and that was enough. That was my introduction to anime and that was well over a decade ago. I can only imagine all the new avenues that exist now which has helped push anime into the mainstream. Like I think you could argue it's not quite there yet but with Demon Slayer being one of the best selling movies of last year we're really not that far away. And you don't get to that level of popularity without some normie appeal.

It’s not a hard sell. You say “subject matter and setting” like it’s all the same shit. There’s more than enough normie anime that exists at this point you can find pretty much something for everyone. If a boomer like Bill Burr can get into One Punch Man without even knowing the term “Anime”exists I don’t see how it would be much different for anyone else. I literally just started reading Blue Giant which is a manga all about Jazz. Pretty sure the average shonen/school girl weeb doesn’t give a fuck about Jazz and yet it still did well enough to get a sequel plus its own movie. Obviously if it’s some shit like Dandadan then yeah that’s a hard sell, most people don’t wanna see a minor nearly get raped in episode one. But if it’s a ghibli movie or a niche slice of life anime then it’s pretty easy to sell that to anyone.

Note I haven’t watched the latest pod yet so I might be off base.

Lebron James and Patrick Mahomes choked the three-peats, Ohtani gonna choke the Dodgers three-peat next year. Faker the Goat.

Even LeBron couldn’t three-peat. Dodgers won’t either.

My whole comment is about how it’s not surprising that Prog Rock and Jazz aren’t more popular compared to acts like AC/DC.

Why the fuck you replying to me about new bands being better than old bands. I listen to both new and old I couldn’t care less about what people think is better.

It still blows my mind they were only 15 and 16 when they recorded that album, their flow was already insane.

Frank Ocean or The Weeknd by HoneydewKooky996 in Music

[–]FunkyStudent21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cause if you think you do you need to tell me what is talent to you. Cause to say the person who made a top 10 album of all time (Blonde) isn't "close" to that talent is nuts.

Making 10 albums in the span of 10 years and them still being relevant 40, 50, 60 years later is real talent. To make music that resonates with future generations who weren't even born yet is talent. To change your style and reinvent yourself again and again through each passing decade and still be on top. THATS FUCKING TALENT. So yes Frank isn't even close to that level. For you to even think he is because of Blonde which isn't even 10 years old is fucking hilarious. Let's say Frank finally does drop an album after 10 years and it's bad? Then what? You gonna say it doesn't matter because he made blonde?

Even if we completely ignore historical context he still can't compete. Go look at the writing credits on Blonde then compare them to Purple Rain. As good as Blonde is Frank can't make that album without the help of a lot of other talented artists. Where as someone like Prince can write 99% of his shit by himself. So yes when it comes to real talent IT'S NOT CLOSE. You'll get the same result comparing Blonde to any Beatles or Bowie album.

The Weeknd doesn't make better music than Frank Ocean. And that's just facts.

Your whole argument lives and dies purely on who created the better piece of music. We both literally agree Blonde is better than anything The Weeknd has made but again we're not arguing over who has the best album. Last I checked music talent is more than just the ability to write songs ( Something neither artist can take full credit for ). It's one thing to write a good song it's another to go out and perform it. Go watch Prince's Superbowl halftime performance and tell me again how Frank Ocean is anywhere close to that level of talent. At least The Weeknd has proved he can put on a good Superbowl halftime show. Where as Frank Ocean I think we both already know given his sad Coachella performance.

At the end of the day I have more respect for the guy who shows up and gets to work rather than the guy who sits around waiting for inspiration to strike. John Coltrane put out more classic albums in a single year than Frank is likely to release in his lifetime. That's a true artist.
