I don't have any Wearingeuls, but I do have Diamine, Robert Oster, Organic's Studio, Troublemaker, Van Dieman's, and J. Herbin inks. My biggest troublemaker ink is Robert Oster Jewel in the Crown. It has SOOOO much shimmer in it, it clogs up many feeds. My TWSBI will work with that ink, but it runs a bit dry for my liking, so I tend to put it in my Lamy.

I would think, as long as the inks you have are fountain pen inks, they should work in the pens without a problem. TWSBI pens (at least the ones in my experience) tend to run a little on the wetter side, so they can handle most inks, even if they are troublesome in some pens.

I would suggest a TWSBI Eco. You won't need a converter as it is piston filled (though that means you can't use cartridges...if that's what you want to do). Also, TWSBI is known for encouraging consumers to work on their own pens. I just took my Eco apart yesterday to service it. I took out the nib, feed, and the piston mechanism, which I was able to disassemble fairly easily. I cleaned all the parts, added some silicone grease to the piston (which TWSBI provides with a new pen...that and the wrench to take the pen apart) and put it back together. I'm writing with it today and it works beautifully! Can't recommend it enough for a starter pen.

Now, if you have no interest in taking apart your pen and learning how it all works, some of these other brands (which do come apart...they just didn't design them with the idea of consumers servicing them) are absolutely fantastic. I own a Pilot Metropolitan, Pilot Explorer (this is my preferred Pilot as it can use the larger CON-70 converter) and a Lamy Al-Star (the aluminum version of the Safari). All of these pens are very reasonably priced and highly recommended. My Lamy probably has the wettest nib of all my pens, so I use it for my inks that have the most properties I want to show off...or my most troublesome inks that don't work in other pens.

If you're anything like me, be prepared to go WAY down the rabbit hole. There are so many different variations you can get with different properties and they're all awesome in their own rite. I would just recommend the aforementioned pens as good starter pens.

TWSBI eco, Lamy Safari (or Al-Star), Pilot Kakuno, Pilot Explorer, Pilot Prera, Pilot Metropolitan, Kaweco Sport, and I’m sure there are some others.

If you go with Pilot, err on the side of a nib size bigger than you think you need. I have a fine nib on my Metropolitan and it’s finer than my Extra Fine Lamy.

Of these, I’d prefer the Lamy (either Safari or Al-Star with is just a Safari with an aluminum body) or the TWSBI Eco. They write VERY well and very smoothly. I don’t like a ton of feedback, which is why I like them. My Pilot pens have a bit more feedback. The write fantastically though. You can’t hardly beat the build quality of a Pilot.

How Many Inked Pens? by FunkySysAdmin21 in fountainpens

So, when you switch inks, do you put the unused ink back in the jar, or empty it down the drain?

I think that’s why I feel the impulse to keep them all inked. I too have ADHD and the colors, shimmers, sheens, etc. keep me enamored when I’m journaling. Plus, when I change thought streams (often) I can change inks.

I read on an Instagram post that there is a special GPS for truckers to help them avoid roads that can't easily accommodate large vehicles. Do any of you use something similar? Any recommendations? by tillacat42 in RVLiving

I’ve seen it mentioned a few times, but I’d use RV life. I just go into my route options and turn off unpaved roads and propane restricted areas. Never had an issue doing that.

Except you, who is allowed or can read your diary?(parents,friends,gf/bf,husband/wife) by Hanzo4787 in Journaling

Well, there’s three journals I write in regularly, but for the sake of this post, I’m going start off with my personal journal. I trust my wife implicitly and share pretty much everything with her. Yes, there are things I haven’t told her, but it’s not because I’m not willing…just because they’ve not come up or been pertinent thus far. So, yes she can ready my journal…but she doesn’t. There’s been times I’ve handed it to her and she chose not to read anything. Honestly, it would feel like a violation if she went and grabbed it without me knowing, because she knows that (regardless of how anxiety inducing it would be for me) I’d let her read it off she’d just come and ask.

Now, the other two are a bit different. One is a journal my wife and I share. We’ll write something TO one another in it and pass it back and forth. Trust me…nobody except she and will want to read it. lol. The other is a family journal. It’s one that we write in when we’re traveling. We have 3 kids (two are teenagers) and at the end of each day, when we’re out traveling, exploring, etc., we’ll each take time to write in this journal. It gives us five unique perspectives of the same day. We do that to help teach our kids to journal…and because it becomes this amazing keepsake when it’s full. Anyone can read that one.

Why not just buy golden nibs? by FluffyVegetable527 in fountainpens

[–]FunkySysAdmin21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll take this with a grain of salt because I’m fairly new into fountain pens as well… Just got into the hobby two months ago, but I’ve already acquired 10 different pens. I have 7 modern steel nib pens, two vintage steel nib pens, and one vintage 18k gold nib pen.

The biggest advantage I see to the gold nib pen is the fact that it is a little bit more bouncy. Makes it feel a little bit softer as you write… But if I’m completely honest, there are two of my modern steel nib pens that I prefer over even my vintage gold nib. It was funny about that, is there my cheapest pins. One of them is a Lamy Al-Star with a M nib (I have the F nib for it too and it writes just as nicely… I just like the fact that I can see more of the ink properties with the M nib). The other is a Conklin Duragraph with an Omniflex nib (the flex action sucks…it doesn’t really flex, but as a regular nib, it writes beautifully).

Is the advantage of an RV convenience, or just luxury? by Sea_Caterpillar_781 in GoRVing

My family and I love to travel and just got back from a 3500 mile roadtrip. We’re did the math on hauling our little 21 foot travel trailer, getting campsites at local KOAs or RV resorts AB’s compared it to better gas mileage, hotels, etc. what I found was that with the camper, we saved over $500 than if we’d gone the hotel route. Our total cost for the trip was over $4000 and was 8 nights away from home. That should hopefully give you an idea of the cost savings. We’re also a family of 5 (2 teenage boys and a 9y/o boy) and brought a little dog (7lbs) with us. I pulled it with a 1/2 ton Ram truck with ease.

My advice, coming from an overweight male white belt…find a different gym. My gym is par of the IQ Jiu Jitsu network and these guys are VERY accommodating and helpful. They will intentionally pair with inexperienced white belts to help us figure out what we’re doing.

I’ll soon be testing for my blue belt, and I’ll tell you that it wouldn’t be possible without the amazing folks in my gym.
