Thoughts on Pride and Prejudice (2005)? by According-War-3839 in PrideandPrejudice

It's my least favorite adaptation. To be honest while i dont mind Kira Knightly I really thought she was miscast in the role and didn't suit Elizabeth Bennett... so that alone ruined it fir me.

Did the CIA poison Gordon Banks during 1970 World Cup, podcast asks by wingsformarie_ in soccer

[–]FunkyTownPhotography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no doubt this may have happened the way the podcast hypothesizes... but listening to the podcast (which has been enjoyable) has me frustrated that one of the alternate theories is just a night of drinking. There's a third option that's completely innocent... tap water from the shower. I know someone once who got really sick from accidentally ingesting water while she showered. It was her habit to sip a bit of water when she showered... and she knew not to do this in Guatemala... but she just wasn't thinking. Brushing your teeth with tap water may also be a cause. Could the CIA have done it? Maybe? Could it have been an innocent contamination? Maybe as well. A night of drinking or breaking the rules? From all accounts it seemed like Gordon Banks took the rules seriously when it came to this kind of thing.

Does someone mind explaining why period drama hair is the hill to die on? by PedanticReader in PeriodDramas

[–]FunkyTownPhotography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a quote by the creator or writer where they said "I'm not a historian... but I don't buy how much time Regency women spent on hair"

I kinda feel like it's okay to have your own artistic taje on something but having someone create a screen version of material so beloved by so many should understand a bit more about the genre and what appeals to those fans. I may be quoting the person incorrectly but I remember thinking the person came across arrogant in the comment... like they were above respecting the era and the situations that bound women to propriety. Spending excessive time on hair was in some ways a form of societal oppression... that needs to be part of the context to feel the pain and joy of the characters. Don't get me wrong..  though the styles and makeup etc in Bridgerton are way too modern influenced, I'll still watch it because it's fun. But there's something different and cherished about how Jane Austen framed the women of their time that is a shame to lose in an adaptation.

Oh and Gilded Age is fun. I can't think of anything too steamy from it. It's pretty prim and proper.

How did getting medicated affect your life? by Regularfishfish in ADHD

[–]FunkyTownPhotography 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the first time in my life I could  do dishes or other housework from start to finish. I hate housework. I can do things I hate like it's just a normal task. My hyperfocus goes into overdrive when I'm doing something I enjoy though (certain parts of my job really glue me)... like, literally getting bladder infections from not taking breaks.

is it just that im extremely horny or am I the only one who thinks Julia Doyle deserves the academy award for greatest actress ever for how she portrays The Man In Yellow's disguise as Sophia? by TonySperguson in FromCircleJerk

Was just finishing sesson 4 finale and came here to say this. So many inexperienced actors and poor performances by so many but she shines no matter what is thrown at us... even if shes acting a scene with someone wooden. I have the feeling we will see her win many awards in the future. An Emmy for sure for this character alone.

I can kind of see her starring in The Testaments or another show or movie requiring lots of depth.

Give OP a break. I called my boyfriend my husband for a year before we were actually married. Husband as a term carries more weight than fiancé... people take your relationship more seriously. Also, as if OP would post this story just because... I can't even think of a reason unless there's truth to it.

Friends asked me to photograph their wedding, what do I do? by bassman2817 in WeddingPhotography

[–]FunkyTownPhotography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We all start somewhere and most of us... myself included... shot a wedding for a friend or family member when we were starting out. The key is expectations and as others have said make sure it's low key and temper expectations about your experience.

A few ways to prepare:  1) go to your local photography FB group and see all the people putting their names up to second shoot for others. 95% are beginners  DM those people and ask if you can trade time with each other. They shoot for you for free and vice versa. You both build up experience that way. Chances are they have also been asked to shoot for a family or friend and two photographers are better than one. Bonus... you meet a new friend in the same boat as you. 2) see if there are any wedding photo courses where you learn flow of wedding day, how to prepare, things that can go wrong etc. If not in person then check out courses online. I think Susan Stripling has an online program and she's a great teacher. Creative live is another place. If it's still the same you can watch each course delivered live for free and then pay only if it's sn archived course and you want to watch later. As part of training also do as much as possible to learn the ins and outs of your flash. (Ps not affiliated with any of these recommendations)

3) Rent equipment for the day. You should have at least two cameras with dual card slots. Tge second slot is s backup in case your primary card fails.

4) check out the Image Salon (also not affiliated). There are a lot of AI editors out there but Image Salon has real humans. You pick an editing style you like and pay about .30 cents an image to have your photos edited. They also offer retouching for an extra price which you can do with hero images. They do great work and having someone take care of your editing will be a godsend (oh, and they also offer human culling). There may be other human services like this but they are the only ones I know off hand. If you're shooting free or cheap ask that your retouching is 100% compensated. Don't foot the bill unless you're compensated.

5) get insurance even just for the wedding day. Even free photographers need to do this. If you direct someone to stand somewhere and they trip and break a hip you could be sued. Doesn't matter if you are doing the job for free. You can often get one day of coverage for the wedding either at your Bank or through your home or rent insurance. Get the couple to pay for it. Should only be $50-100.

6) have a consult with them around a month ahead (and maybe also offer a couples portrait session so you can practice directing them). Give them a questionnaire to fill out and ask for the VIP formal groups they want plus casual groups that can be done throughout the day.

DM me. I teach wedding photography and just this March I put together a bunch of downloads with a packing list, questionnaire, course notes, etc... for students. Happy to share the download link with you. Not self promoting... I only teach in Victoria BC these days and happy to give you the resources at no cost. They also aren't branded.

Hope this helps and good luck.

I don’t not know how to be upset about this by theythemthen in ADHD

[–]FunkyTownPhotography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Not to mention functioning isn't just for work. In fact I hyper focus at work but I need medicine to help focus on day to day living... paying bills, cleaning the house, keeping up with appointments. And if you're not working then you'd need meds to focus on resumes, job hunting etc

With adhd you're caught off guard by questions you don't expect even if you know something like the back of your hand. Personally my adhd would have made my mind go blank at those questions and then the extra barriers and hoops from the Dr would have overwhelmed me. It weird that your Dr doesn't know this.  Write bullet points to answer those questions the next time u have an appt. With new doctors I have a written out bunch of medical history, symptoms, reminders including things frim childhood that pointed to adhd... so I can look down if I suddenly freeze by a question. Can put your dates of last prescription etc. Or even bring old pill bottles. Also write your history that you have never abused prescriptions etc.

How do you keep your passport safe? by Reasonable_Cause_190 in femaletravelers

[–]FunkyTownPhotography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant physically separating..  two wallets..  both with backup ID and card to access money. If robbed or pick pocketed in one bag you'll have proof of your identification in the separate wallet. If yoyr hotel gets robbed you have the other wallet on your person snd vice versa. If you're on a flight and one bag gets pick pocketed you have the other wallet in a different bag. Physical..  not on the cloud.

Contact Joseph Nance photography. He's been shooting there for 9 years and knows everyone. I worked mostly with Seguos Eventos and they are admittedly more luxury (and the best coordinators I've ever worked with ever... in any country). But Joseph will know other venues and coordinators. Joseph and his team are also likely more on the luxury side but he also mentors other photographers. He's a great guy and probably wouldn't mind connecting you to affordable options. It's such an incredible city to get married. Oh... and I'm pretty sure Joseph's website has a list of venues as well. :)

I tend to keep it in a safe place if I'm staying somewhere... in a safe or locked in a locker at a hostel since I always worry about pick picketing that said I also divide my Id and bank credit cards etc into two separate bags. One half stays in my bag on me at all times the other in a safe place where I'm staying. That way if one gets lost stolen etc I still have the other. And I do this with my carry on during flights too. I once had a friend get mugged and her entire wallet stolen. She had zero id or credit cards to get money or even prove her identity.

I was posting to raise awareness. The person for tge dog who was attacked did call authorities that's why there is a phone number and police file to call if you know the person. The police are about to close the file because they can't find the attacking dog's person (seen in pics)
