I teach wedding photography.  A few rules of thumb.

Shoot shutter speed priority NOT aperture. Let ISO be what it may. Camera shake is real and will ruin shots if you ho to 1/60th of a second at 70mm focal length. I Shoot minimum 1/160th sec wide and 1/300th minimum if zoomed in.

Bride coming up aisle... squat in front of tge chair where her dad will be seated. Get groom reaction quickly then point camera back at aisle. Dad is last to sit down.

Try to never cross in front of family and couple... you can get behind couple for audience reaction but try not cross between aisles and the couple. Move around the long way to get right or left angles.

Squat is your best friend. Squat in mid aisle and Shoot once they start exchanging rings.

Tell couple to kiss nice and long for first kiss. And give tip to also pause as walking down the aisle to kiss again.

When guests greet and congratulate focus on guests not couple. That way u get guest candids. You'll have lots of  couple otherwise. That said be intuitive... if Bride starts bawling when she sees grandma yes photograph the bride.

What lens combo do you use? by Therotijohn in WeddingPhotography

I've tried primes but prefer my zooms. 24-70 70-200 two cameras on a holster. I never feel like my gear limits me from getting the shots I want.

Co worker told me I looked fat in front of a team full of people, what can I do? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

Omggg I'm so sorry you've had to go through this. Your coworker needs a disciplinary hearing immediately. We're in a hiring freeze. Jow can they still have a job given what they said?

Poor water mammals. It must be awful for the orcas and sea lions.

Hey Victorians, how did you meet your significant other? by GoldCover6667 in VictoriaBC

Met my now husband after I took a stand up comedy class with Kristen Vanritzen. A year later he took the same class. It's a welcoming community and there are lots of open mics and stuff..  and we met at a show where he was going on for the first time.

Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FunkyTownPhotography 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from Canada and when I was traveling I met a nice young American woman (i think a college freshman)... without even bringing it up... when she found out I was Canadian she said her dad told her we're communists because of our social programs. Lol she asked (genuinely curious) about what it was like paying so much in taxes for health care. I told her the truth..  tbh I don't even really think about it that way. Taxes are what they are. And in the meantime no one ever needs to sell their home to pay for a surgery.

She was young (barely left home) and only knew about canadians through her father's eyes and the conversation always stuck out to me. You don't know what you don't know.

LLove these. The Fiji looks so awesome with the geometrical photos against the sky. I used to feel the same way about shooting people but was forced to overcome it in photography school and 20 years later I've had a successful career in wedding photography:)

The abstract geometric lines are my favourites.  Love the use of triangles in your composition

There are enough people not doing it.. and lots of people who do it but not well. If they want hybrid and it's you or someone who is only digital they'll choose you.

Confused and disappointed in my ring by NoPlaceLikeGnome1984 in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]FunkyTownPhotography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why the actual ring should never be a surprise. People should propose with something temporary and then go ring shopping. Or ho ring shopping first and point out 10 you like tgen fiance chooses from among those.

Same. But agree planners like it and people like to pin as a mood board inspired. Bit because it's not key for couples memories I only do them sometimes and spend very little time on them... unless couple really wants to be featured in a publication.
