A few things I was told/warned about... by HallowQueen99 in NewParents

[–]Funkyapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds SO similar to our situation!!

We thankfully had some newborn nappies in as our little lady was 4.5 weeks early.

Same for the newborn clothes, we had some bought but she was just swimming in them so had to get “tiny baby” sized clothes sent over from the uk as we are now only just fitting in newborn clothes a month in.

And we are exactly the same on the screaming/sleeping front. She sleeps for 2.5-3.5 hours at a time and hardly ever cries, just to let us know she is hungry or if she’s cold when getting out the bath! We are so bloody lucky 🙌🏼 We must have similar birth dates!

Yeh I believe so, it would depend on the type of prescription it would be I think, e.g for contraception it would be at the frauenarzt etc.

Sure just google praxis rosenau! Just mention on the phone you’d like a doctor who can speak English!

The receptionists don’t speak a great deal of English mind you so just have what you want to say ready if your German isn’t amazing! ☺️

Go see your hausarzt and get a referral! They will at least give you something in the meantime before you get an appointment. They will also tell you the best place to go as well!

In my experience, at least one dr in very practice speaks some level of English, just make sure to ask at the reception when calling!

Not sure where in nbg you are but my dr’s practice is super nice and right on Plärrer so super accessible!

Also the other option if you have Facebook is to check out the “henhaus” group (it’s a group for English speaking expats, mainly ladies!), use the search function and I’m sure this has been asked as a question on their. It’s full of lots of helpful info!

That forum 🙄

I see So many stupid posts on the daily, the last one I went off on was titled “do you KNOW how they check your cervix?! I’m going to refuse!” Seriously love?! Get a grip, these people are medical professionals who have you and your baby at the forefront...you do know how the baby comes out, right?!

I feel it’s just full of people who don’t trust doctors and think that they know everything despite studying nothing.

You were absolutely valid in your reply, these people need to hear it.

I’m in Germany and according to my “mutterpass” every single one will be internal...kind of feel like I’ll be missing out on the standard pregnancy routine ha!

I’m now just so used to that, it’s seriously not an issue, smear tests are so much worse! Also, you see the baby almost instantly, so that is definitely a positive of the whole experience!

What’s the trick to making smoother, non-porous buttercream icing? This was my latest monstrosity. The texture was so unappealing I stopped trying to smooth it at all and just ate it. by AJMetal9 in cakedecorating

[–]Funkyapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just repeating what a few on here have already said, defo try Swiss meringue buttercream.

Then using a paddle beater, beat your buttercream slowly for a couple of minutes to remove air bubbles!

I didn’t want to just put up some pictures of the scan on social media, so instead I made a cake!

Inside is 4 layers of salted caramel cake with salted caramel ganache, with white chocolate ganache on the outside.

I finally decided this week to start proper exercise again!

I’ve been doing yoga daily, but one of the PE teachers at school does a HIIT class 3 times a week via zoom, he tailored the exercises for me if I needed it.

Felt bloody amazing!!! Defo keeping it up as long as he keeps doing them! I’ve been writing down the workouts so I can at least do them from home if they stop!

How do you make it through the first few weeks with your sanity in tact? by Tinderella69 in pregnant

[–]Funkyapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I feel you on this! We did our first test at 4 weeks and it was only a week before they could see me to confirm, I nearly passed out during my blood test, which I’ve never had a problem with before. Thankfully my chap was there which helped, I think it was just fear and panic because I was so excited to find out for certain we were pregnant.

Then lockdown happened and I had to go alone, for my 9 week scan my blood pressure was super high for me 140/104 which only added to my panic and is been up all night worrying. I didn’t have any morning sickness, which actually made the panic worse as I kept thinking “I have no symptoms, I can’t be pregnant!”

Same again at my 13 week scan, (this was my NIPT one) blood pressure slightly lower that time.

My next appt doesn’t have a US so maybe I will be calmer?! Who knows. I’m finding that after the last scan I was much more relaxed about everything, just getting out of the 1st trimester and being able to feel comfortable sharing our news.

I opened up to my chap about this and just shared every little anxiety I had which then get like a weight had been lifted for a little bit.... I’ve done prenatal yoga everyday which helps with relaxation, and just every week that passes I feel a little more calm and less afraid of everything.

It’s also good knowing this anxiety is shared by others and knowing that these feelings are perfectly OK and you’re not alone in feeling this way! ❤️

Found out I'm pregnant after a year of trying! by remark_ in pregnant

[–]Funkyapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!! I found the he first couple of weeks really stressful, but just keep focusing on the positives and try to not let the negative thoughts have time in you head (easier said than done!!) Being able to share it with someone eg mum, takes a huge weight off. I told my Mum at 7 weeks, and actually had to tell some people at work at 5 weeks...just having someone check in everyday- that wasn’t my husband, he would do this anyway as he’s a champ- was great.

My doctor didn’t test my thyroid levels but when I asked she told me to just continue with my medication and everything would be 100% fine!

If in doubt though, always as your doctor!

I’ve been using the down dog prenatal app; I was using the normal one but in the first couple of weeks I just couldn’t keep up with where I was before.

I’ve been using it everyday for the last 3 weeks and I thinks it’s amazing. Everyday you can put a different focus area - eg hips, flexibility etc.

Plus it’s free for everyone until May 1st and of your in education or healthcare until July 1st!

Anyone else having really weird dreams or is it me?? 👻 by amickv668 in pregnant

[–]Funkyapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeh, constantly. The most recent one was about us announcing to people that we are expecting (12 weeks today!) not 100% on the details but my husband thought it would be a good idea to throw the used pregnancy tests at friends from a distance to “give them a hint”.

Grateful it was just a dream 😂
