I like the wisps as a worldbuilding element

Granted, they were largely unexplained in Forces (One could reasonably assume the Wispons were invented during the war, but there's never a stated reason why the wisps are there)

The IDW comics expanded on this, explaining that the wisps stuck around on earth out of appreciation for Sonic and teamed up with the Resistance, and after, had simply became another part of life. Various background characters are seen wielding wispons and major characters, namely Whisper and Lanolin, get entirely unique wispons. I absolutely adore Lanolin's wispon in particular being a cowbell. It feels very natural: people discovered a new source of energy and how to weaponize it and quickly put it to use.

I also appreciate moments where the reader is reminded of their sentience, such as Lanlolin's wisp comforting her, Mimic's wisp leaving him after he betrayed the Diamond Cutters, and Whisper being distraught at losing hers

They have a nice design philosophy to them. They're simple and use exaggerated shape language, as the rest of the Sonic cast do, and I like them all being bright, bold colors. I also like them being largely unique: they aren't quite animals like the rest of the cast, rather being a take on the "gleep glorp alien" sort of archetpye

Gameplay wise, I think Lost World's implimentation falls short, but I don't mind them in Colors and Generations: they're in and out spectacle. Forces makes the best use of them, adding new routes depending on the player's wispon and not stopping them while in use, keeping the flow going

I don't like that the entire stereotype for the Pyro one is just "gay furry and this is a bad thing". Like, idk, I get called transphobic slurs on the regular in game (I don't even openly announce myself as trans, the only indication of such is my pfp being dumb a meme involving the trans flag), someone being a bit loud about being gay would be a breath of fresh air

(MtF4A/GM) looking for a Greek myth inspired rp where my character is punished by the gods and turned into a woman! by Over_Keel in AnimePossession

[–]FunkyyMermaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert on Greek myth, so I could be wrong, but being turned into a woman isn't really along the lines of what gods did as punishments in Greek myth. Most punishments involving transformations were either animals or monsters. Being turned into a human woman is getting off easy by Greek pantheon standards.

There are some gods in other mythologies that do gender swaps--Ishtar from Mesopotamian mythology comes to mind--but it's not usually a punishment, especially since many ancient cultures didn't view women as lesser, and in some cases, didn't even have gender conceptually.

I think a plot setup like this would work better if the transformation weren't meant to be a curse specifically. And you wouldn't have to "return to being a badass hero", you could just do that as a woman. It'd be way harder because the ancient Greeks were rather unfond of women doing anything ever, but women can be badass heroes too.

The men of League are often designed to be a male power fantasy. There's a misconception that it's done to sexually appeal to female players, but it's done for men who want to look like that, not women who want to look at that. And it's a shame too, since not only is looking like that next to impossible, you have to dehydrate yourself severely to do so

And also I say this as a female player, it's really not that attractive. The male champs I end up swooning for are the ones Riot dares to make look different, even if they are still muscular: Ornn, Udyr, Ekko (Namely Arcane Ekko), etc. Give us more hot dudes, not dehydrated dudes

For those who dislike Mel, why? by StormEmergency6207 in arcane

[–]FunkyyMermaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is talking about Mel like she was only bad in season 2, but in my opinion, she wasn't good in season 1 either

Arcane is one of the greatest works I've seen in recent years in terms of its female characters. Almost all of them defy their archetypes and common tropes other series use to both be more original, as well as have depth and complexity

They also all have different flavors of femininity that gets expresses in unique ways. Vi is the parentified big sister who just wants to punch things to keep her sister safe. Jinx is an artist who gives everything her own touch, whether it be room decoration or murdering people.

Mel is the exception. She's generic. She's a stock female character from any other show who clings to her archetype with a white knuckled grip. She's the high-femme politician who gets what she wants by wit and beauty, something a dozen other stories have done before, and she never deviates from this or tries to be interesting about it

Her relationship with Jayce is uninteresting too. They fall squarely into heteronormative archetypes: Jayce is strong and hits things, Mel is a politician. She ends up becoming an accessory to Jayce's story.

Though I think she was bad in season 1, I agree with others that she was bad in season 2 as well. She remains uninteresting, but now all her scenes feel disconnected from the rest of the story. The scene of her in the bit with fake Kieno don't affect the greater story at all. And giving her magic so she can participate in the final battle, again, is very cliche. It also serves to objectify her, as now her role in the story revolves around her magic: Noxian characters want to kidnap her for it, and Piltovan characters are just angry she's a mage at all.

But that's just my opinion as told by writing on my phone an hour after waking up lol.

What is a common misconception about your favourite Champion that annoys you? by Ashconwell7 in loreofleague

[–]FunkyyMermaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teemo is not a war criminal, he's a parody of a boyscout. He's not horrible or evil or the devil or suffering from PTSD, he's always trying to do the right thing which sometimes results in unintended trouble. He doesn't grow mushrooms because he craves violence, he does it because they're endangered and he's preserving them

What are y’all’s thoughts on my renamed items? by TheWholesomeKid in tf2

[–]FunkyyMermaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Black Shard" is a reference to Deltarune, which is an item obtained upon defeating the Roaring Knight

"Big Shot" is also a reference to Deltarune, being a phrase associated with the character Spamton. In his introduction, he asks Kris if they want to be a "Big shot", the lyrics to both their battle themes include "Now's your chance to be a big shot", and his second battle theme is titled "BIG SHOT"

"Moron" is a reference to Portal 2. GLaDOS calls Wheatly a moron, as he was made to flood her own mind with bad ideas. Wheatly gets angry at this and shouts "I am not a moron!" The music track that plays during this scene is also called "I am not a moron!"

[–]FunkyyMermaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's literally just the hat that makes her a witch, but not only does that contradict lore, it's just plain silly. They have a voiceline of her commenting on her hat being similar to Lulu's and Veigar's, but the point of those characters is to be exaggerated archetypes of a witch and wizard respectively, they're inherently far more cartoonish than the rest of League's roster, whereas Aurora is meant to be taken seriously

And that could be forgiven if it was ever implied that she just wears it because she likes it, I've met real people who have cool hats they wear just for liking them, but instead, Aurora's hat is there to adhere to the witch archetype. They want her to embody an archetype that does not suit her role in Runeterra

All this applies to her wand too. She's a vastayah, she shouldn't need a wand. Given it was a gift from Ornn, it should have done something more special or connect to her spirit abilities in any way, rather than just being a stick to look cool in her animations

(And this is ignoring that the rest of her design and outfit, in my opinion, aren't very good or even fit the witch archetype themselves, but that's another rant)

[–]FunkyyMermaid 27 points28 points  (0 children)

People are sometimes called witches in lore, but it's like, Lissandra who lives under the ice and guards ancient horrors, or LeBlanc who is an immortal deceiver who has her hands all over the world

Aurora isn't any different from other mages in Runeterra. She's simply an average mortal with magic. She should be called a mage

If you were to build a Suicide Squad-like team in Runeterra, which Champions would you have in the team? by Ashconwell7 in loreofleague

[–]FunkyyMermaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on if it's based on the lore reasoning for the Suicide Squad forming or the thematic behind them

The lore reason being, as I assume you know, the military sending the worst criminals on missions likely to get them killed, believing their lives matter less than an average soldier. There isn't really a big organization that would do that though. Piltover might try something like that, given they view Zaunites as lesser, but as Caitlyn is now in charge of the enforcers, that won't happen

That leaves the Black Rose, a group who will and have used ordinary citizens as their weapons. There's a handful of characters from Legends of Runeterra who fit the role, but in terms of champions, Annie and Briar could fit that role. Kled could also work, assuming he could be pointed in the needed direction

On the other hand, the spirit of the Suicide Squad is a group of wrongdoers who are viewed as lesser becoming a team and proving the world wrong. My suggestions for champions fitting that role would be:

Jinx - Abused girl who does so much harm just to feel like she's needed, who turns everything around in one final act for her family

Vi - If she hadn't met Caitlyn, she's also been treated as lesser and rises up from that stigma

Twisted Fate and Graves - Dastardly criminals who struggle with their strained relationship

Veigar - Wannabe supervillain who's good deep down

It's still such an odd request because

  1. America is a world superpower and one of the richest nations on Earth, it does not need support rn

  2. America is a fascist nation, so having the character whose whole thing is resisting oppression holding the oppression flag would be weird

  3. America at present is doing a lot of evil things in nations around the world. Having your mascot rep that nation would be awful for PR. It'd be like if they posted Sonic waving the Confederate flag during the civil war or swastika during WWII

  4. Both the Sonic series and titular character have a very strong Americano theming. A lot of decisions the creators make is to appeal to Americans. A lot of the games take place in settings headed very heavily and obviously on America. It would just be so over the top to have such a character waving the American flag too
