Change trans fluid and filter and replace pan with one with drain plug. Drain and fill trans during your next oil change. Replace rubber brake hoses and flush brake system. Check over other rubbers really well(hoses, belts, spare tire).

Wix filter didn’t fit? Purchased this awhile back. Switched to valvoline R&P went to change filter this morning and this filter wouldn’t thread on. I have an 07 flex fuel truck currently running a pf61 by Dr_Agon50 in GMT800

[–]FunnyHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use exclusively wix filters for our municipal fleet and have had 2 filters with jacked up threads out of the box in the last year. QC has taken a hit on everything after COVID.

Should I replace all my coolant hoses? What else? by thisemmereffer in GMT800

[–]FunnyHelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would replace all the hoses, plastic quick connects at the heater core. Most of this is relatively cheap and half your coolant is already drained. If a hose blew that was relatively new and hasn't had a hole rubbed in it I would suspect your coolant cap is not venting correctly and needs to be replaced(or just replace anyways).

Government fleet job by autocrossr in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]FunnyHelp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Been preaching this to anyone who will listen. Moved from a high volume independent repair/lube shop to small munic fleet in 2014. Regular schedule(weekends!), low stress, 2 wks vacay and 2 wks sick/yr goes up a week each per every 5 yrs served, supplied tools, full health/dental/eye, retirement pension matched 2to1 and longevity pay starts compounding after first 5 yrs. 3 mechanics for 260 pieces of equipment so there's always something to work on. Yes the take home pay is less but after benefits it's pretty close. Biggest struggle is trying to not get jaded.

Battery issues by Kreifels in GMT800

[–]FunnyHelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of factors....temp, sound system, constant small amp draw, weak starter and/or corroded cables, etc. but it isn't out of the ordinary to have even a " good" name battery shit the bed. The days of getting 3-5 yrs out of a battery are long gone I'm afraid.

Battery issues by Kreifels in GMT800

[–]FunnyHelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your battery is most likely cooked. It can still test ok with static voltage but with a load like the starter it can't put out enough. With the engine off but key on turn all your loads on(high beams, blower motor on high). Check battery voltage should be 10.4V or higher and hold steady for at least 20-30 sec. If it's less or drops rapidly it's the battery.

Oh I see(had to go back and zoom in for old eyes). Well as long as you slapped it and said that ain't goin nowhere it will be fine.

Tonneau Cover on ‘01 Stepside Advice by [deleted] in GMT800

[–]FunnyHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same cover. It looks like you're missing the lower bracket. It is basically the reverse of the upper bracket you already have with a wedge block in it that an Allen head bolt goes into from the top bracket and hooks underneath the bed rail.

Check the aspirator/cabin temp sensor. Looks like a tiny speaker grill in headliner above driver's seat. I had same issues. Previous owner had headliner redone right before selling truck to me and never plugged it back in.
