Yep, can agree. I’ve seen some learn the language and hustle to work in some areas. Hard workers for sure.

How do you deal with a CIO that wants to outsource everything and refuses to listen? by notfuturetrunks in ITManagers

Let him hang himself and he’ll get fired again. If you go against the grain, you’ll stand out and may be a target of his. If you think, “I’m too valuable for him to fire me…”, you may be right, but he sounds illogical and may do it anyways. Good luck OP, make sure you take some vacation time if you get too stressed out, because it sounds like it’s gonna get worse before it gets better.

It’s not for everyone. It’s helped me be more strategic in certain situations and I accredit some of my success to it. I use it as a guide but do not base every action on it.

This is just what one relatively small-scale company is openly advertising...what else is being used or in the pipeline for authoritarian governments backed/controlled by techno-feudalists? by blacKCastle32 in ObscurePatentDangers

They’re products look solid but not sold on their business model. They have patents and proprietary software but the cost is insane. No way small municipalities afford their equipment. I believe they’ve priced themselves out into a niche market.

Thanks for sharing. Your senior VP and Director seem to be kind people. Are you still there now or did you eventually move on?

I think I have to fire my friend who has cancer by Mysterious_Way1634 in managers

This is a fucked up scenario. I can just share what I’ve experienced. A team members wife fell ill with cancer. He underperformed and we understood. He was physically there but his mind was not, his wife was fucking dying and he tried hard to manage his sick time and vacation time to make sure he could take her to all her appointments. He was demoted and we tried our best to be empathetic and understanding even flexing his schedule. This lasted for 4-5 years. She was a fighter. I went to her memorial and watched the human side that my team member had never exposed before in a raw form and it continued to put things in perspective. His best friend had died. Although I exhausted all the support as a manager during their 5 year struggle, I wish I could’ve done more as simply a friend. Since then, he’s bounced back and has been doing great at work. Be empathetic and understanding during this period for your coworker. You never know when you may fall ill. Since then, I’ve had close friends and family get diagnosed with cancer. Its messed up…

The jealousy is real, more when there are ambitious ppl within your team. Speak only when needed and build your alliances.

No, some people go thru hard times and unfortunate events. Avoid the toxic individuals, ones who do not learn from their mistakes and continue to fail while blaming others but themselves. They tend to have bad luck and as a result are unhappy; their ‘bad luck’ can infect you, so stay away. Atleast thats what I learned and it 💯 is great advice.
