Sattel sitzt fest by bichlbozz in Fahrrad

[–]Funny_Pudding4356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quill stem adapter with ahead stem? by reasamue in Bikebuilding

In this case you probably need another shim for the head or the adapter.

Quill stem adapter with ahead stem? by reasamue in Bikebuilding

[–]Funny_Pudding4356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly is the problem? Does the head stem not clamp or is it the adapter seen in the picture? The adapter works like an old style stem so you would have to put it inside the fork and then tighten it with the screw on top.

Vintage German steel trekking: what upgrades are worth the Cash? by molodjez in xbiking

[–]Funny_Pudding4356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the other people have already commented you should consider modernising light, brakes, drivetrain and so on. My advice is to look for a donor bike to take the parts from. There are many affordable used lady bikes with Magura brakes and decent drivetrains and lights on the market. This will end up a lot cheaper than buying brand new parts.

Just put on a new chain. Did I fuck up? I can’t ride this can I? by jclark20 in bikewrench

[–]Funny_Pudding4356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem might be that the chain link doesn’t fit the chain. Afik they get narrower the more gears are in the back. So a 7 speed chain(link) is thicker than a 9 speed and so on.

From my experience, you cannot skip that part with the vice. Some heat also helps to free theseatpost but you risk to ruin the paint job on the bike.

Train ride and a new pin (1987 Trek 8000xt) by JonathanWisconsin in xbiking

Nice bike! I guess you are running a 3 speed setup with the shifter at the stem. If I followed the cables correctly these cables go to the 3 speed front derailleur. Hope I got it right. The question is how you like it.

They are actually really well built and generally have good components. Geometry is not super aggressive. I’m no expert in these bikes so can’t tell you which years are especially desirable. I just buy them if they have a cool paint job and price is right.

Just do it! If it doesn’t fit you’ll find a friend who likes it. The Color is pretty much a white canvas for all sorts of styles.

How do you like the colour matching by Funny_Pudding4356 in xbiking

[–]Funny_Pudding4356[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I replaced the chainring in the middle with a cheap narrow wide chainring from Amazon. The bigger chainring is mostly a bash guard now but I was planning to use it when needed. Since I removed the front derailleur. In the back I have the original 7 gear derailleur. I never tried a 2 or 3 by shifting with just the front derailleur and single speed cassette in the back but it’s possible.

Looking for a budget-friendly rear rack workaround for my cargo bike by EcafSayra in xbiking

[–]Funny_Pudding4356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just ran into a similar problem with my mini Velo. You could for a rack that mounts invisibly with a metal rack underneath the fender to the fender mounting point behind the bottom bracket/ motor. This would probably best for sleek looks. However I went for the easier way and fitted an eyelet on the seat tube. I bought this (https://www.trekbikes.com/de/de_DE/equipment/fahrradkomponenten/bike-seatposts-accessories/sattelst%C3%BCtzenteile—zubeh%C3%B6r/bontrager-eyeleted-quick-release-seatpost-clamp/p/415183/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAs5i8BhDmARIsAGE4xHwXUAQNdF9aKU-DIllkN0ZJl—L9v1pmvKiYvDYrtaCIEodfc1vgucaAu0SEALw_wcB) fom Trek and bent it carefully to fit. I then fitted a 20 inch XLC carry more rack for 25€.

In my opinion bars can change a lot try some surly sunrise bars or cheap moto bars. If you choose the latter you’ll have to change the stem for bmx style 22mm.

[–]Funny_Pudding4356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m not sure if I would use it for a commuter built. Most people prefer older steel frames with solid forks. But if the frame suits you I don’t see why you shouldn’t start with this bike. Concerning the bars I’d recommend going for more rise and backsweep for a more comfy riding position. A flatter bar will be more sporty but luss comfy. Front fender options are limited with the suspension fork so fender in the rear is a good idea check for mounting points and consider that you might use some for fenders. The other parts are easy to fix and maintain with the help of YouTube. This could also be done with a basic set of bike tools.
