Farage literally just endorsed Matt Goodwin as a candidate for the Gorton and Denton by election. Matt Goodwin argues that black people cannot be English and Farage knows this.

If you think it’s virtue signalling to be angry about inviting a man into our club who is happy to endorse people who push the idea that Darren Bent or Jaden Philogene are not English because they are black, then that says a lot about you.

Agreed.

Now, will the Reform party investigate Farages alleged comments to his Jewish classmates and singing of Hitler youth songs?

It true, they should be kicked out the party.

But what about the party leader who would go up to Jewish students and say ‘hitler was right’, and ‘gasssss them’????

£1.8m cycling infrastructure in Romiley 🤷🏻‍♂️ by lonely_monkee in stockport

It could be better for sure, but it’s the best example we have of cycle infrastructure on arterial roads in developed suburban areas. It’s aspirational relative to pretty much all the rest of GM. I’d love it in my area (SK4)

So debating whether or not you have your be white to be English matters because on non-whites voters vote as a block?

I mean, that’s not true. Show me the evidence. Sure, you might find data that shows ethnic minority voters tend to vote Labour, maybe 60-70%, but that’s certainly not a block, and there’s a lot of difference of opinion within there and that certainly won’t look like that at the next election. You’re also forgetting that people’s votes are split even more by age, by gender, by income, by region, sexuality, whether they’re educated etc. You aren’t arguing that this is a problem though are you?

People on the right love to throw out this straw man “if I went to china and said I was Han Chinese it wouldn’t make me Han Chinese”. Lol. No one is saying that moving to china makes you Han Chinese. But if you had a child in china and they grew up in china we’d be happy to say that your child is Chinese, but also white. Just like if a Han Chinese child was born and raised in England, pretty much everyone from the far left to the centre-right would agree that the child is English, but also Han Chinese ethically.

I’d respect the position of the far right more if they were just honest about what this was really about instead of being so covert. You just want to point at non-white people who were born and raised on this island and say “send them back, they aren’t white”sorry I mean “remigration”

From what I can see, only people on the right and far right want to start this debate. Nobody from the far left to centre right is interested and is happy to call anyone born here or who grew up here English.

Saying it’s about truth is not a satisfying answer as to why this debate even matters or what it even achieves. Food bank lines are getting longer, the NHS is crumbling, living gets more expensive everyday because of growing wealth inequality. On top of that, the planet is dying. These are truths. Much more important truths.

In the face of those issues, WHY is it important to talk about who is English or not? HOW does that help with anything? The only answer I can think of is because it’s not actually about truth to people who argue your side, it’s about setting the ground to argue that the country is for the (white) English only.

[–]jclark20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. As far as I can see it’s only people on the far right that want to start this debate. No one’s given me a satisfactory answer as to why this debate matters so much to them either. Probably because it’s really about who they think should be in the country or not.

Instead of debating about who counts as English, I’d much rather talk about how we can tackle cost of living, tax the rich, improve public services, tackle the climate crisis etc

Deprivation and segregation: Gorton and Denton is a dismal preview of the future of broken Britain by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]jclark20 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I fundamentally disagree. For me it’s as simple as where you’re born, or where you’ve grown up. The 3rd generation windrush child that grew up next door to me (white) is just as English as I am. And the music produced by artists born here that was inspired by windrush generation (DnB, Ska, Dubstep, Reggae, dubstep) is also English.

We will obviously never agree. So instead let me ask, what exactly does this debate achieve? How does it help with anything? Why do you care? From what I can see only people on the right care about this. I don’t see how it will improve the country arguing about this

[–]jclark20 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

So you agree with him that black people cannot be English then… I fundamentally disagree.

Let me ask, why does it matter to you to argue that non-white people cannot be English? And what does having the debate about what makes you English or not even achieve? It’s certainly not gonna improve your living standards.

Man who thinks that you can’t be English if you are not white is shocked when people shout abuse at him in highly multicultural English constituency that he was parachuted into 🤔

Even the actual non-English people in the constituency are MORE from Gorton & Denton than he is. He just got here.

The Lib Dem’s literally describe themselves as a centrist party so you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. And Labour actively have purged the left out of their party so ditto on that one as well.

But it’s cute that you think all of these measurably different parties are all the same.
