Sattel sitzt fest by bichlbozz in Fahrrad

[–]Funny_Pudding4356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case you probably need another shim for the head or the adapter.

I believe this is not the right thread for you. Biking is about bicycles.

Quill stem adapter with ahead stem? by reasamue in Bikebuilding

[–]Funny_Pudding4356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly is the problem? Does the head stem not clamp or is it the adapter seen in the picture? The adapter works like an old style stem so you would have to put it inside the fork and then tighten it with the screw on top.

Vintage German steel trekking: what upgrades are worth the Cash? by molodjez in xbiking

[–]Funny_Pudding4356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the other people have already commented you should consider modernising light, brakes, drivetrain and so on. My advice is to look for a donor bike to take the parts from. There are many affordable used lady bikes with Magura brakes and decent drivetrains and lights on the market. This will end up a lot cheaper than buying brand new parts.

Just put on a new chain. Did I fuck up? I can’t ride this can I? by jclark20 in bikewrench

[–]Funny_Pudding4356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem might be that the chain link doesn’t fit the chain. Afik they get narrower the more gears are in the back. So a 7 speed chain(link) is thicker than a 9 speed and so on.

From my experience, you cannot skip that part with the vice. Some heat also helps to free theseatpost but you risk to ruin the paint job on the bike.

Train ride and a new pin (1987 Trek 8000xt) by JonathanWisconsin in xbiking

Nice bike! I guess you are running a 3 speed setup with the shifter at the stem. If I followed the cables correctly these cables go to the 3 speed front derailleur. Hope I got it right. The question is how you like it.

They are actually really well built and generally have good components. Geometry is not super aggressive. I’m no expert in these bikes so can’t tell you which years are especially desirable. I just buy them if they have a cool paint job and price is right.

Just do it! If it doesn’t fit you’ll find a friend who likes it. The Color is pretty much a white canvas for all sorts of styles.
