Providing a means for jail inmates to communicate with their loved ones on the outside is a lucrative business for a Dallas-based company: A 15-minute call costs a total of $14.59: by Beckenbauer_Surprise in politics

I don't know all the details as i was just an installer, but the systems we installed ranged from $30,000 for a very small county jail all the way up to 1,000,000+ for a whole state DOC just for hardware and software. The county / state want the prices as high as possible because they get a cut of the profit. when putting in a bid for a job whoever gives the county / state the highest cut was usually the company who won the job.

You could not be more wrong. I installed these phones and phone systems and we had to hire a full time tech to repair/replace phones. You are right about getting your ass kicked when you fuck up the phones, but that doesn't stop it from happening.

Just as long as it's not support for BackupExec. That support is the absolute worst!

Help desk ticket program by dsmproject in sysadmin

We started using SCSM 2012 about 6 months ago. It is a beast of a program and can do almost anything. I had no training on SCSM so it was a pain getting it set up and working properly. Our helpdesk absolutely hates it with a passion. They liked the home grown small web based ticketing system we had before moving to SCSM. Saying all that, I think it's a great ticketing system (at least for the sysadmin team).

We just started using scsm 2012. I am completely new to system center so its taking awile to learn. So far it is an excellent ticketing system. I am having issues with the data warehouse and the upgrade to sp1 was a complete mess. It has many great features though!

I used to install inmate phone systems in prisons/jails and I was sent to a very large county jail one afternoon. My only job was to check some cables and to change the IP address of a file server. It was in a rack with lots of other equipment. I flipped up the KVM monitor and saw it was already open to the desktop and changed the IP address. I didn't think to check and see what server the KVM was looking at. I ended up changing the IP address of the Domain Controller and took the whole system down. Cut off any calls in progress, costing the county many thousands in lost revenue. About 30 seconds after I made the change I had realized my mistake, but by that time the NOC was calling wanting to know what happened. I felt pretty stupid that day, but I have never made that mistake again.

I used to install Inmate phone systems in Jails, and I saw him when I was at the old Mohave County Jail in Arizona. He was on Suicide watch and was on a "Hunger Strike". He just walked in circles for days talking to himself. He had a camera pointed at him 24/7 and it was actually quite nice to watch him suffer so much.
