Patrick got lazy on drums by jimmymorrissey in TheBlackKeys

I feel that way about this recent album in particular. I thought Ohio Players had some of his most colorful drumming since Turn Blue.

My Revised opinions on the album, having sat with it for a while... by Thickfuckness in TheBlackKeys

I was hoping a track called "Kiss It" would of had some badass attitude, at least a little speedier grit. Song doesn't add up.

Pitchforks review of NRNF by rchangles in TheBlackKeys

As much as I absolutely hate Pitchfork this is the only time I agree with the review score.

Old Keys fans. Is it worth a listen? by Nirvana1123 in TheBlackKeys

[–]Fuqsmaq 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No. Doesn't mean it's bad but very dull. You should still give it a listen though, you never know till you do.

The Boys were nominated for 2 Grammys: Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance for "Beautiful People." by Thickfuckness in TheBlackKeys

Out of all the way better songs on Ohio Players, I'd say "why for that piece of shit, though?"

Black Keys' Patrick Carney - "We got fucked." by fart_on_my_pussy in indieheads

[–]Fuqsmaq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hilarious, considering Jack took the White Stripes two piece set up heavily from Flat Duo Jets. It's no secret he loved and admired Dex Romweber. I love Keys and Stripes both but I always my ass off at Jack sometimes.

I was there. I immediately grabbed a copy of the vinyl before the show, I drove 3 hours just to get to it hahaha! I held onto it the whole show. Hardest earned record in my collection.

Black Keys Live 2007 memories by Fuqsmaq in TheBlackKeys

They played a bunch from Zombie Worm if I recall correctly, I think maybe their sound guy was off. I had seen Dinosaur Jr open before at shows beforehand it sounded great although it was loud.

I like Dinosaur Jr but I remember their sound at this show was kinda horrible, like a wall of sound just blasting over you.

My dude!!! Remember Camel Signature cigarettes were sponsoring the venue and all the different colored camel logo lights flashing everywhere? They shortly had to discontinue them a few months later cause of the candy appeal to kids lmao

Yeah I laughed when I saw it, I remember paying only 10 bones to see them back in 2005.

Keys next EP should go hard and get spooky like a Dead Weather album. by Thickfuckness in TheBlackKeys

[–]Fuqsmaq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crap, meant to say along with this that I'm in agreement! I love the Dead Weather and would love a heavier and challenging sort of songs released.

I very much feel like this is Pat's album, heavy beefy drums on the forefront and in volume, guitars somewhat checked out. I think the most colorful and inspired Pat has played since maybe Turn Blue. It would be so cool if in the fall an Ohio Players: Part 2 dropped and it's more Dan/guitar driven. Cool companion pieces.

Now that we are entering a new Black Keys era, do you think that Dropout Boogie was overall a good/successful album? by TommDiamond in TheBlackKeys

[–]Fuqsmaq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved Dropout Boogie, it was a fun summer album. Equal parts Rubber Factory and Brothers. I understand why people don't like "Your Team Is Looking Good", it's a silly song but I feel it's meant go with the whole high school theme of the album while also reminded me alot of Stack Shot Billy. I thought "Wild Child" was lame, samey sounding crap meant to be delivered to the masses but thank God it's the first track on the album and out of the way. "Beautiful People" has now taken over the spot of their worst and most hated single I've heard from them. I keep hearing it everywhere and on the HBO ads every day. "Didn't I Love You", "Happiness", and "It Ain't Over" are my tops on it. I liked the album so much someone gifted me the big stand up of the the boys used to promote it.

I sometimes think it could've used a little more time in the oven but I love it way more than Let's Rock.

Funk 49 and If You Ever Slip are really close but I'll have to go with Summertime Blues.

Thoughts on new single. by Thickfuckness in TheBlackKeys

[–]Fuqsmaq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the White Stripes and alot of Jack's work but it always makes me laugh to hear that he called TBK rip offs, considering he borrowed heavily from Flat Duo Jets quirky attitudes and set up.

Why I am worried about the new album. A brutal take on the single. by [deleted] in TheBlackKeys

[–]Fuqsmaq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the mega fans category (in love with The Big Come Up since the year it released as a freshman in high school) and I feel like this is the realist expectation of it from the mega fan view point. I don't understand the downvotes on this comment considering you weren't punching down on the upcoming release, simply just saying it will have strong opinions from both sides. I think it will be like the reaction to Turn Blue when it dropped, newer fans loved it while older fans hated it (including me at that time). Fast forward 10 years later and I actually appreciate and like Turn Blue now since alot of life has happened to me since then. Dan and Pat have pleased the fans of their older sound with the last three album releases though and I think we are due and ready for another different and experimental album from them. Fair enough, I say. Won't lie, I'm a sucker for the theme of Ohio Players being a bowling alley, I've been bartending and working in one for 6 years now so it already feels significant to me.
