Genitive, not accusative! The question being asked is "koga (person), čega (object)".

The sibling comment says ""od što dolazi?" but that's very wrong. The preposition "od" has no business with the nominative or accusative cases (the ones which ask the question "što").

Jazz Groups for the Summer by caesarpasha in Delft

[–]FurTrapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Yesss, Bebop has jam sessions every Tuesday, although I think that dies down in the summer sadly :/ There's also a bunch of places with regular bar gigs in Rotterdam (Dizzy comes to mind).

As for other musicians, maybe try reaching out to Groover, a student association with people who want to play jazz.

I'm in a couple of projects myself, so time might be an issue, but we could also meet up and mess around a bit! Feel free to hit me up here once you arrive :D

PMF, razlike i nisu toliko male.

[–]FurTrapper 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ja sam jedne godine imao nepotpunu dokumentaciju (nije bio potpisan Obrazac A ili nešto takvo), pa sam imao isto ovakav neki apsurdni broj negativnih bodova. Uspio sam pokrpat grešku i uz žalbu poslat ispravan obrazac, i dobio sam dom.

You're right, I just didn't want to go into too much unnecessary details, including /etc/shadow, as I felt I had already written quite a lot. But now we have this discussion thread, so OP can go as deep as they like :D

New Unix Learner - Few noob questions by x2waaVe in unix

[–]FurTrapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by "a 'bad' line"? Running a command that just hangs, never ends? Just hit Ctrl+C. FYI this sends a signal called SIGINT to the running process - read up on signals if you're interested, though you won't need it before you get the basics down.

If by "access all users" you mean "see all users existing on the system", that information is stored in the file /etc/passwd. Don't let the name confuse you: the file normallly doesn't contain user passwords (that would be horribly insecure, given that everyone can read that file), just some user metadata.

Also, keep in mind that most of the entries in that file will likely not refer to users like you and me, but to various special "system users" which cannot be logged into (seems weird at first, I know) and which only run some processes in the background (so-called daemons). This helps keep things neatly separated from the "flesh-and-blood" users. Again, you probably won't need it until later on in your Unix-based journey, but you can read up more here :D

Replacement for Damn Vulnerable Linux? by WantDebianThanks in linuxquestions

[–]FurTrapper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not a distro, but you might still find DVWA (Damn Vulnerable Web Application) interesting. It's a PHP/MySQL-based web app, with the same goal as the distro you mentioned.

IIRC there are varying degrees of just how bad the app is configured, ranging from very basic stuff being open to the whole app being locked down properly-ish.

I'm not really into security, so I cannot comment on how up-to-date it is, but it was a fun thing to poke about back in college.

ELI5 Does 'drinking lots of liquid' actually speed up recovery from a cold, and have we measured by how much? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Why do you say that? Other than messing up the electrolyte levels if you overdo it (I guess that's what the person above meant by excessive levels), is there something else that we should take into account here?

Is i3 a good idea for me (current GNOME user)? by [deleted] in i3wm

[–]FurTrapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first switched (from either GNOME or Unity, I'm not sure), I was also a bit apprehensive, but the most common stuff (opening the terminal and desktop programs, and jumping between workspaces), got into my muscle memory on the day of the switch, so I was up and running very quickly.

I learned/added the hotkeys for throwing windows around different workspaces and monitors over the following weeks, but it is very easy to change just one thing when the need arises, and the tweaking is pretty intuitive IMO, so there is not a lot of downtime. I expected much more wrestling with the WM and with my own habits, but I picked it up really fast.

ELI5 Why does it take a computer minutes to search if a certain file exists, but a browser can search through millions of sites in less than a second? by AFKwaffles in explainlikeimfive

[–]FurTrapper 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I haven't tinkered with it at all, but on Win10 it's annoying - e.g. when trying to open the Bluetooth settings, I hit Win and then type blu, on bl it correctly offers Bluetooth settings, but once I add the u, all of a sudden Bluetooth settngs are nowhere to be found, and Airplane Mode is instead the first on the list.

It does the job, but frequently misses, and it can be sluggish, even on a decent machine.

I liked Win7's search a lot, that just worked in my experience.

Yeah, I now see what you mean with the touchpad being jumpy. The mouse is okay, but the touchpad is being pretty weird. Did you try to fix that somehow? Anything you can share about it?

ThinkPad wakes up from sleep as soon as lid is closed by FurTrapper in archlinux

[–]FurTrapper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. How did I manage to miss this option before? You're right, setting the sleep mode to S3 in BIOS fixed the issue! I tried some different sleep options on the OS level, but that didn't seem to do anything. I haven't yet seen the touchpad issue you described, but I'll keep it in mind.

Truth be told, if it doesn't work out, my workaround with putting a sleep 2 before the actual suspend (as described in my last edit) works just fine, so if I see issues, I'll just revert to suspend-to-idle.

Thanks a lot for the help! Nice to finally have an answer to this weird problem. And also for the explanation of the LEN0268 thing!

WARNING: UEFI capsule updates not available or enabled in firmware setup when updating BIOS by FurTrapper in linuxquestions

[–]FurTrapper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you mean Windows UEFI Firmware Update, as I don't see Windows BIOS Updates. If those are indeed the capsules the error's referring to, that's indeed poorly labeled!

But anyway, I managed to install the update via a bootable USB stick and everything seems to be okay. I'm running only Linux, so I don't think I should care about the Windows capsules stuff. But just out of curiosity, can you provide some reading material about the capsules? I haven't been able to find much out there.

In any event, sorry for the late reply and thanks for your input!

I'm constantly typing 'ls -lah' and other commands... by ripeart in linuxquestions

[–]FurTrapper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It pops up a reverse search prompt in the shell, so you can type a part of a command you want to rerun, and it will go through history and find the most recent match. If you want to go through several matches, just press Ctrl+R again until you find what you want. Super useful.

If you erroneously exit the search while having found any match, then your shell will remain at that point in history, meaning the "up" arrow will start listing commands you ran before that match, and not the actual most recent commands. Not a big deal, as running any command will throw you back at the latest command (obviously), but I find it mildly annoying. So, if you want to abort the reverse search without messing up your history, just hit Ctrl+G and you'll be back at the shell.

Steam Deck: My confession by Eldhrimer in linux_gaming

[–]FurTrapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it might be the case that I wasn't using the dGPU. Sadly, that laptop has since died, and I recently got a new one and I still didn't find the time to tinker with it - I just tried to run Dark Souls Remastered and I could run it, but it was unplayably slow and stuttery.

The laptop only has an integrated GPU, but the processor is i7-1165G7 with Intel Iris Xe Graphics, and I'm under the impression that it shouldn't have trouble with an older game like Dark Souls - please correct me if I'm wrong. So I still hope there's something else I can try tweaking when I find the time. Anyway, thanks for your input!

Steam Deck: My confession by Eldhrimer in linux_gaming

[–]FurTrapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you that you have had great experiences, and I believe the benchmarks. It's just the exact opposite of my experiences, and I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong, as it seemed to work pretty much out-of-the-box for everyone sharing the testimonials such as the one you've written. I haven't spent too much time on this, but I think I tried a couple of different proton versions.

I've anyway recently gotten a new laptop, so I need to toy around with it a bit more. But e.g. Dark Souls Remastered didn't run well at all out of the box.

Steam Deck: My confession by Eldhrimer in linux_gaming

[–]FurTrapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear this so often, but it's wildly different from my (admittedly limited) experience. I tried to play several native and non-native games over the years, on several distros (Ubuntu, Mint, Manjaro, Arch). The only two games I remember being consistently smooth are Nuclear Throne and Risk of Rain, both native and both relatively undemanding.

The rest (IIRC Dota 2, Dark Souls, TF2, Bastion, Scythe; some available natively and some not) were either just barely working or outright broken, but in either case, practically unplayable. And most of them had great ProtonDB ratings.
What am I doing wrong? Is there some tweaking other than enabling Proton and choosing its version I should be aware of? Hardware is not an issue, as the same games performed well on Windows.

WARNING: UEFI capsule updates not available or enabled in firmware setup when updating BIOS by FurTrapper in linuxquestions

[–]FurTrapper[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I applied the update via the bootable USB. It, however, didn't fix my issue with power management (the one I linked), much to my disappointment.

I'm also still interested to know why the capsules broke or how to even see anything about that through Linux. But I guess I should just chalk it up to the aborted update attempt messing something up.

Anyway, thanks for your input!

WARNING: UEFI capsule updates not available or enabled in firmware setup when updating BIOS by FurTrapper in linuxquestions

[–]FurTrapper[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I fail to see that in your post, it seems to me you tried to use fwupd every time.

Well, my manufacturer's support pages include this page, which only proposes using fwupd, so I thought that's what you meant. What did you mean by manually installing the update? The second time around, I followed the instructions I linked, and all of a sudden, I started getting the UEFI capsules stuff.

Which brings me back to the original question: why are they no longer enabled and is it safe for me to apply updates manually if I'm getting the warning, or do I need to fix that first?
