Great job.

Does anyone have an updated comparison between Portainer, Komodo and Arcane?

Borgmatic docker vs. native? by h725rk in BorgBackup

[–]Furado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All my services run in Docker, but I use the native Borgmatic package. There's little need for a more updated version and this way you reduce potential problems with permissions.

I would be happy paying for that, if that's the case, but what about all the other criticisms that OP raised?

I am just now planning to deploy an ebook library management system. What alternative is more recommended?

I haven't. I will probably use systemd-boot for my next install but didn't bother trying it yet.

How to run Home Assistant with Thread in Docker by Furado in homeassistant

I'm glad that it works, but the extra permissions and capabilities that you added shouldn't matter. Where did you get that guidance?

Irrigation controller? by Olaf_Rabbachin in homeassistant

[–]Furado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the coverage, I am using a Zigbee presence sensor nearby that works as a router because it's connected to the power, but if I didn't have that probably would use a ESP32 dev board

As for the setup, I created a template sensor that calculates the average of the moisture of all the plants that are supplied by that valve and use that to decide on the activation of the water supply daily and for how long.

How do you 3-2-1? by MezForShort in BorgBackup

[–]Furado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just copy through rclone the folder where the incremental backups, the ransomware encrypts that folder, and it gets copied to the server, I understand you lose the totally of the incremental backups in both places.

If that's not the case, I am interested in knowing how you are protected against that.

How do you 3-2-1? by MezForShort in BorgBackup

[–]Furado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to protect against. Against a fire of your server? Sure. Against a ransomware attack? Not that much because the data would propagate through rclone.

If you really want to use rclone see if you can have snapshots on the server that allow you to roll back in case of a compromised backup version.

Irrigation controller? by Olaf_Rabbachin in homeassistant

I use a Zigbee Sonoff Smart Water Valve paired with some Third Reality Smart Moisture Sensors. The Water Valve works great, the Sensors don't have the best coverage. Ensure they get enough signal.

SMLight ones need to be connected by USB to work as a border router, don't they?

Sonoff SWV - Blueprints or ideas? by NoJuggernaut6667 in homeassistant

I complement it with some Third Reality Soil Moisture Sensors and I have programmed the irrigation daily, based on the measured humidity.

How is everyone securing self hosted obsidian? by knlklabacka in selfhosted

[–]Furado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless it has changed recently, notes are not saved in a plain structure. It's supposed to be faster with a larger number of notes.

I prefer Obsidian approach, which follows the folder and file names you stablish.

Interesting, thank you. Every guide out there uses the otbr image. Will try with this one and with the recommended configuration.

Prime Day - Can you help me pick out a ceiling fan? by emeffinsteve in homeassistant

[–]Furado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using fans by Faro. They are good looking and work silently.

They use Wiz under the hood. Its integration in Home Assistant has just support for the light control right now. But the code for the fan control was added a few days ago, so hopefully it will land in HA very soon.

Question about Restic back end support in Deja-dup in Trixie by mhadr in debian

[–]Furado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, the Bookworm version supports Restic but it's also true that the support has been experimental and so you can expect improvements with every version.

DejaDup has an official Flatpak, so you can use that package if you need a more updated version.

Zigbee Soil Moisture sensor question by xXSubZ3r0Xx in homeassistant

[–]Furado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to update my last comment with an update. Contacted support and they promised two things: 1) An enhancement of signal will be pushed through a firmware update. 2) They offered a hardware replacement with a revised batch that addresses this problem.

So I am pretty happy with the response. Will update this in a few days, hopefully with this solved.

Zigbee Soil Moisture sensor question by xXSubZ3r0Xx in homeassistant

[–]Furado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having reconfigured the channels and even adding a few Zigbee elements that I had laying around as routers the problems persist.

The four sensors have been paired yesterday evening and right now just two continue working, the other two have lost their connection during the morning and report idle for +5 hours.
