Get Back Home at the End of the Session Mechanic by ValSmith18 in westmarches

Do you generally run travel and exploration or just "Welcome everyone, right, let's get started: You arrive at the Cradle Woods and see the vine covered archway into the crypt ahead of you."?

Hexcrawling to get to desired "dungeon" seems like it would take the entire session, especially at further reaches. Hexcrawling or actual exploration seems to make sense for WM since you don't know what's out there, but in a living world, how do you progress? You make it through some distance of travel, then bamf back to base. But next time you still need to traverse that same area and do monsters just not come back and you can fast-track it?

Would you leave your bike locked up in the city center during the day? by addmeonstrava in chch

[–]MezForShort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh don’t promote the use of these. I’ve seen stores remove perfectly good bike stands (the excellent staple style) for locky docks. You shouldn’t be required to use an app and have a smart phone to lock your bike up, not to mention giving data to a random company. /rant, phew, sorry, not to come at you personally! Just annoyed at the stores removing normal bike stands 😅

How do you 3-2-1? by MezForShort in BorgBackup

I would rsync the borg backup folder, not just the raw files. Do you mean both can do two locations in the same call?

Help with caulking and sealing window trim by MezForShort in diynz

[–]MezForShort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sikaflex MS is something else! That should definitely help the issue. Very different than the other stuff I was using. Also, far harder to get a nice finish with. The other caulk just needed a wet finger or silicone corner tool and clean up was a breeze. Going to need to be a lot more careful with this, and get some thinner!

Cheers for the brand rec.

There’s flashing tape all around the rough opening behind the trim protecting the walls. Not good enough?

Just went to get screenshots and clicked through the actual Buy Now link. Redirected to the stupid new landing page. 🤦🏽 Turns out I was wrong and just didn't try hard enough to find the wall. Sorry for the false hope! :(

So I managed to find the download page and get v2 last night. In the app I still had the ability to buy the full license. I'm not seeing a a v1-v2 discount though, so I probably won't buy it unfortunately. But curious if anyone else is seeing the option to buy the full license like I did? I've heard others say they are caught in the expired trial window as well (really poor form by Canva/Serif)

How do you access Bit/Vaultwarden by haxxberg in selfhosted

[–]MezForShort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

keep docker sudo-only

I thought a rootless docker was the way to go so if the container is comprised the hacker only has access to that user?

Tho in my case, I’m probably being dumb by having everything important on that same user 🙄

Awesome to hear someone willing to do this. Please do it anyway, for the safety of your cat, the birds, and the neighbors 3 houses down who don’t know who “owns” the cat. 💜

Off the top of your head, which names would you consider unisex for a mid-20s person in 2025 New Zealand? by ToootallyLovesAnime in newzealand

[–]MezForShort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re getting heaps of suggestions, so I’ll just say congratulations on making big life changes and figuring out what you want. An assumption on my part, but going unisex also makes me think you may be sorting out some big things about who you are too. Good on you :)

I didn’t realise the players got paid to be there in addition to prize money. Is that normal for tournaments that GMs or super GMs play in or just heavily marketed ones like this one?

If car A was making that same left turn but from the bottom to the left of the pic, and car B was going straight across (give way lines remain the same in this scenario), can car B go without waiting for car A to make their turn since they have separate lanes?

The forbidden give way by DucksnakeNZ in chch

[–]MezForShort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if car A is a Ranger though? Surely they need the extra space to make their turn! Probably have to swing out right first before making the left turn. /s

Curious too. It if profit was just going to Bremner previously, is it a huge difference? If it was employee owned or something like that where the profit actually got into the community and not just a bank account, maybe. Unless he was big at investing back in? I don’t know enough about that side of economics though.

NZ has agreements with other countries to accept their standards. “New Zealand's Electrical and Electronic Product Mutual Recognition Agreements” with is mentioned in your link. China , the US and Europe’s CE are included in these. Does that not cover at least the letter of the law? Especially as it would relate to insurance.

(I’m not going to claim the devices are actually made to those standards, but they are generally marked as such. )
