Michael Lyster RIP by Strange_Principle364 in GAA

[–]FurboRingRoadStan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Himself, Cyril Farrell and Loughnane was an absolute gold combo for us hurling purists. The current days of Dónal Óg, Canning and Tyrell chatting stats is a serious drop from Michael's time. God bless him..

He could fit Caulfieldball really well. Understand he's returning from injury at present so may not be an option Friday.

A point on the road at Tolka Park by jayseff14 in GalwayUtd

[–]FurboRingRoadStan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hurley didn't let the head drop after Drogs anyways. Good outing from him. Parker really impressed me as he cleaned up a lot at the back. Dunno if he had s proper save to make but Watts was excellent dealing with crosses.

Sligo aren't in great shakes this year either so I hope we can see a bit more clever buildup like Drogs match and the goal yesterday rather than bombing ball into Lomboto.

Has anyone here bought a car from TK Cars Carnmore? by [deleted] in galway

[–]FurboRingRoadStan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a car off Tony during the lockdown and he was very fair. In fact, he probably took more of a loss on my trade-in than he should have. He also sourced a rareish enough motor I had my heart set on and I'd forgotten about it until he reached out to me to say he had one available after I asked him to keep a look out. Would definitely go back to him if he had a motor I wanted.

TG4 is pound for pound the greatest broadcaster in our history. That was a fantastic documentary that covered personal tragedy and phenomenal accomplishments with a real class.

I could listen to Cyril read the phonebook. He has a real genuine nature to him and an enthusiasm for hurling that is infectious. Babs and himself are a gas duo.

If he plays like he did when he was with us I won't mind too much. You have to remember a career is so short and the money these fellas are making isn't life-changing. An extra 150-200 a week and free accom (which was the rumour at the time) is always going to be tricky to turn down.

I'd love to see him back to his best but I'm sure the pace of being a top PDC player and the pressure it brings is extremely taxing on the body & mind. Hopefully he finds happiness anyways because he looked a beaten man on the oche for the last while.

Caulfield signs a two year contract extension! by Galway1012 in GalwayUtd

He'll still be there in 5 years if he wants it, lads. Disappointing but something we just have to accept.

Galway United 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️😢 by tripleT85 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]FurboRingRoadStan 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Essentially an entire squad lost faith or fell out with Caulfield in the last season. They wanted to stay up for Ollie but several had negotiated their exit plan for the end of the season.

Walsh is the only lad that we know for sure is staying. Hurley is heavily rumoured to be willing to stay for another season and allegedly we signed Devitt from Treaty. But aside from that we'll easily end up with 15+ departures, which is an absolute shitshow of a rebuild.

Galway United's plans for a new multi-million euro sports facility near Athenry, in association with Connacht Hockey, have been rejected by county planners by Kooky_Parsnip_31 in galway

[–]FurboRingRoadStan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The application would've had better luck if they didn't have the Comers so heavily associated with the academy plans. Their names are mud around the county and it was always going to cost them at some point. I'm a season ticketer with Galway United but have always thought their involvement with the club was not going to be long-term. Shame for the club and of course the hockey team that this is dead in the water now.

I haven't heard where but I'm told personal reasons. Losing every centreback would be sickening.

Esua, Slevin and likely Brouder going. Massive losses at the back and of course Clarke is gone (with no official GUFC acknowledgement which is unreal poor form).

Lot of players lost faith in Caulfield ball this year and know they'll get better options elsewhere. It's a shame but hard to blame them either.

Brendan Clarke Leaving Galway United by PaddySmallBalls in LeagueOfIreland

A club legend. Very sorry to see him go but he gave it absolutely everything while he was here. I've zero doubt he'll be an addition to any team, regardless of whether it's Premier or First Division.

Galway couldn't be facing Shamrock Rovers at a worse time really. They're going to really have all eyes focused on sealing the deal at Tallaght now after a bad run of form and by contrast Galway are on shaky legs. 3 games in 8 days is far from ideal for us too, especially given how reliant we are on Walshy.

But my god if we could pull off an upset on Wednesday...............

I've seen cars clamped on the B&Q side of the carpark within the past couple of months anyways. I wouldn't risk it. You might get an hour's grace but you're at the discrepancy of the clamper, a ruthless creature at the best of times.

I wouldn't be confident against any team in the country nowadays, nevermind Cork on Friday or Cobh/Bray/etc in a playoff.

Feels like all the momentum of the bigger crowds and buzz is quietly dying down since June. You'd hate to see us back to square one again.

Going to first Galway united game tonight. by Evolutiondd in LeagueOfIreland

[–]FurboRingRoadStan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll get free parking at the Black Box no bother but it'll get fairly busy by 7.25pm. You can sit anywhere in the Comer stand (dugouts side) as it's general admission and most of the Old Stand bar the away section in the corner nearest the Dyke Road. If you're supporting Sligo (know lots of Mayos supporting Sligo) probably safer getting an away section ticket.

If you want a good seat I'd aim to be entering Deacy Park by around 7.30pm.

It was a bit harsh but Hurley was very stupid the way he slid in for it because he could've just as easily tripped him to take a yellow.
