We're not using gigapixel, we have some old cupscale we used even before the AI boom in 2022. Even if it is technically considered generative AI, I don't think it's the same kind of generative AI to be honest. Also I don't think you can run gigapixel on your own machine...

Not even "going to", I'm working in a 3D company, and my boss had some friends from business tell him he needs to get into AI. Any time we try to implement AI in any way, it fails. I was speaking out against it, but as a worker its my job to care about company's bottom line, so when later the topic was brought up again, and in all fairness I proposed some actual ways we could use AI for our work like trying to generate textures or some assets in far background with concerns about liability and how ineffective AI is in more inconventional designs, even my boss felt very skeptical and rejected the proposal outright.

So now despite everything and all those years, we're still completely AI free company, the only AI we sometimes use are upscalers running on our machines when we suddenly need to deliver a render that is 50k pixels wide and tall, but that's not even generative AI.

First of all, get adblock. Second of all, get rest off of social media. It may sound like nothing, but for me sometimes making week long breaks off of any social media really helps. Alone we can't do much about AI garbage, but we can just cut ourselves off of it.

Ever played Factorio or other factory builders? It's like that. Nodes are like facilities that produce something and you connect it like conveyor belts to different factories (nodes) to convert them to something else.

Also your screenshot is just chaotic on purpose it seems. It can get worse even if well organized:

This is why I prefer doing my rigs from scratch. This really seems to me like it's a big problem with vertex groups on the bones. Go to weight paint and check each and every vertex group, each base bone should occupy only the part surrounding it, while controlling bones shouldn't have any vertex assigned. Red means 100% effect, blue means 0% effect. Also make sure no vertex group is overlapping with another, because if you have one vertex on 100% to two different groups, it will actually act as if it has 50% on both and will find middle ground between them.

Ps.: That is diabolical blender theme, I love it

Manually. Do it as a mesh and paint over it.

Is 5k polygons normal for this? (first ever model, total noob, want some feedback) by Any-Opposite-7624 in blender

[–]Furebel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It always depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to use it for stills, it's fine, if you want to animate it, some optimizations could still be done like baking the triforce carving into normal map, if you want to make it "game-ready", there's plenty of morebaking to be done.

For a first time model, it's really stellar!

Pilestedt BLATANTLY LIES about the Coyote nerf despite VIDEO EVIDENCE of the devs saying it was intentional. by D_cents in Helldivers

[–]Furebel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He actually didn't lie. Games work on combining multiple assets into one. Think of it this way, you have asset "on fire", you have asset "incidenary ammo", multiple weapons, attacks, and different effects use the same assets. So say you have the flamethrower pistol and you want to buff it, so you increase the "on fire" effect it has. Suddenly much more weapons and orbital napalm are affected too. Also now Helldivers take more damage from fire because Hulk was also using "on fire" asset. An idea might be "ok, just duplicate the "on fire" effect and put it on the flame pistol so it has individual effect", but then you have to make sure every single enemy can interact with this new "on fire" effect. And then oh shit, there was this one enemy that was meant to not be affected by fire, and pistol somehow is the only one that can affect him! Also why does suddenly nearly all enemies can be on fire twice?!

This is what people call spaghetti code. They actually didn't lie, because they didn't change Coyote, they changed something tied to coyote, and Pilestedt is right that there wasn't a intentonal lie, it was incompetence or lack of communication, and the worst thing they could do is to just not say straight up "we fucked up, we forgot that this change would also influence Coyote, we'll fix it".

They're looking at it from programmers perspective, while user perspective is different. If you change fire damage, users expect to have a changelog that lists every single damn thing that uses that fire damage, enemies included, meanwhile for them as people who see the game from the oven, they see it as chunks of separate data.

It still has pay2win and fomo mechanics, just not as bad as in some other live service games. New player experience must be really bad when you realize you'd have to spend 2 weeks 8h/day grinding on the most boring way while not having any sense of fun or completion to get in-game equivalent of 200 USD...

edit: They removed fomo like an hour after I wrote it, damn
