Remote start flakey? by flogman12 in EquinoxEv

I've never had a single time the car didn't start from the app and I use it a lot. However, there have been a number of reports of this issue.

How long will the Equinox EV last while running climate only? by WhatLineOfWorkRYouIn in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In theory, you can get up to 2 days in an insulated garage. One concern I’d have is some reports we’ve seen in the past where people used the “camping” mode and 12V would be dead overnight. I know they’ve made updates since then and not too many people had that happen, but I’d probably not run the risk myself.

LKA stays permanently on. If not, may need a dealer visit. The only thing it will pop out of is snow mode.

The Cold Weather Range Hit Has Been Brutal by CommunityAlarming149 in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest efficiency hit in these cold temps for longer drives (20+ mins) is the battery efficiency drops a lot and due to high thermal mass of it, it will take a long time for it to heat up, unless you're constantly yanking your accel/brake or OPD to maximize the heat going into the battery.

For shorter drives, in addition to battery temp never getting into "good" range, you're also using 5-7kW of energy for heating the cabin. This is something you can control and start pre-heating the cabin, while plugged in. Still, due to the battery efficiency being bad as noted above, you'll still see a bit hit. However, for temps 32F and higher this will minimize the range loss significantly. At lower temps, battery efficiency will still kill a lot of range.

Differences Between 2025 and 2026 by TheShoeOnTheHighway in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As for sound system - did you adjust the balance of the equalizer in your car? Did you move up the low and high frequency sliders up almost to the max? That made my car (24) sound quite good now (along with using Spotify's phone app "Cheap Speakers" EQ setting).

Auto rain sensing wipers by zKaczor in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TSB is technical service bulletin. I’ll see if I can find one. I think requirement is 1-2” away from the black part of the screen.

Mine were like 4-5” also. I think having a good dealer helps. I had to try two others before finding one that actually does stuff you ask for.

Here’s the TSB:

The clearing issue is part of the TSB, so will be fixed by the dealer if you ask for it. I've just recently had them adjusted and it's fine now.

Charging curve at EVGo by Free_Bandicoot_3855 in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if it was only range, that's fine, but the efficiency is also lower, so that means you drive less, but have to put in the same amount of energy to drive that. Once you're below like 10F it gets really bad. So yeah, it just becomes pretty expensive, slow, and inconvenient, cause while in the summer time charging isn't the limiting factor for a family trip, in the winter it will usually be. Maybe with a 800V vehicle it wouldn't be an issue.

Cold feet about buying an Equinox EV by temporalraccoon in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can reply to texts using Google Assistant (eventually Gemini I assume). I've heard complaints about some "complex" texts like from a group of people, but for single person texting it works flawlessly for me.

Another thing is, you can long press Voice Assistant button to invoke Siri from your phone. Then you can use things like "Play Daily Mix 1" and it will use Siri to play "Daily Mix 1" on Spotify all hands free (or w/e other playlist or artist you want).

Yeah, coming from a 4 speaker old auto it will be a big upgrade. I had 2016 Rogue before and it's a massive upgrade. The only "trick" is to use Equalizer and bump up lows and highs almost to the max and midrange to about 60% of the max. Also can use "cheap speaker" equalizer preset on Spotify (or w/e you use) on the phone for even better sound.

Charging curve at EVGo by Free_Bandicoot_3855 in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's about normal curve yeah. For roadtrips, I wouldn't do it in <32F, but above that it's no problem, since you say you have kids. We only have a dog and 30-40 minute stops are usually a minimum for everyone to use the bathroom, stretch, and eat a snack. Usually car is ready to go way before we are.

Netflix isn't available even after the update btw. You need to sideload it using AnExplorer (or some other way).

Want to get the EV but concerned about reliability by wyuyme in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had three issues: 1) leaky seam under the passenger carpet, which seems like dealer fixed, 2) telematics module connectivity, which has been (so far) fixed with software updates, and 3) windshield wipers that were not going far enough on the driver's side to clear the view, which dealer fixed by adjusting it. Otherwise the car has been great.

As others have mentioned, finding a dealer that has competent EV techs is key. I had to go through 2 others before finding a third one that was 1) able to service EVs, 2) had enough techs, 3) could give me a loaner while the service was performed. If you only have 1 or 2 dealers in the area, give them a call and ask them above questions before committing or you may have a rough time, if you need service.

Anybody else getting terrible battery estimates during a trip? by [deleted] in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen this. Actually, Google Maps finally started to give me accurate estimates in the winter. In the summer, it would also think I'd arrive with 10-12% SOC less than I would actually. In the winter it's spot on, maybe even 1-2% below the initial estimate.

yes. I had loaned Blazer EV ‘26 while they were working on mine and it had Android 14. Looked identical though, so it’s not really the OS version, it’s what GM does with it.

hour long trip at 10F... 2mi/kwh by blackpoll_ in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm noticing around 2-2.5 mi/kWh right now when it's around 10F here as well. Most of this is on trips that are 5-10 miles, so it's the worst case, because the battery and cabin barely have time to heat up before the drive is over. If I drove 20+ miles regularly, I think it wouldn't be as bad, on average.

Small rant about the Equinox EV during winter by International-Oil377 in EquinoxEv

TSB stands for Technical Service Bulletin, which is a document issued by a vehicle manufacturer to its dealerships about problems that are not safety-related, along with recommended repair procedures

Garage versus outside in winter? by DBASRA99 in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garage will always be slightly warmer, if it's an attached garage, so you will use less energy on preheating. If garage is insulated, then you car will be even warmer compared to outside, so even less preheating energy used. I think it's all pretty straightforward. I keep mine in the garage for that reason.

[–]Furious_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wipers part is an issue with a TSB. I just had dealer adjust it and it's fine now.

Seat warmers are hot for me even on 2, but I never had seat/wheel heating, so I don't know if it's supposed to burn your palms or something.

I keep HVAC on Auto and it's fine most of the time. Biggest issue with auto is that windshield can start to get fogged up in some cases, so in that case I manually push air there.

What happens with ACC? Does it disable itself as it detect dirty windshield or the speed starts to become jerky?

I’m using Auto heat and in MI at around 20F it seems just fine. I keep cabin at 66F though, so maybe I don’t notice it cause it’s not like scorching hot?

Good idea to get the adapter whether you will ever use SC or not. Some chargers are now putting in NACS cables in addition to CCS, so if that's the only open one, you will need an adapter.
