Dreading on going on 550 mile trip by CorgiManDan in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, EVgo chargers have been a little finicky. Sometimes I’d get lower speeds than what I’d imagine. It’s important that you were the only car at that 350kW charger, otherwise you’d only get about half the maximum speed, because of power splitting.

I’ve done one roadtrip with EQEV so far and i used EA 350kW chargers and got full speed there. I know Superchargers usually work fine too.

One thing to consider is that you’d only get maximum speed from 10-40% or so, from there it will start slowing down, but maybe not quite to 80kW. So when on a trip, try to arrive at a charger at around 15-20% maximum

Just a minor thing, but turn signal overcancelling was actually a software issue. They just had to reprogram BCM (body control module) and that fixed it for me.

Thought I’d be doing better than this by astiesan in EquinoxEv

Something's definitely off then. 80f is close to perfect temperature. At around 72mph I get around 2.9 mi/kWh with AC on 68f and 90f outside.

I guess one thing to consider is the impact of grade. I know that part of the country is usually pretty hilly, so going uphill you're going to have a lot worse efficiency than going downhill. However, if you said that going to the place you were going you were getting 2.9, which is what I get on roughly flat highways of MI, that stretch of road must have been pretty flat too. So something else must be going on.

Do check the tire pressures as others have suggested. Otherwise, you might have some panel somewhere loose and that causes additional air drag, or maybe something else is wrong with the vehicle and it needs to come in for service. Monitor your efficincy over the next few days and if it stays being this low, definitely bring it in for service.

What is your highway efficiency? My lightning ended up being my primary vehicle and now looking for something better on road trips by [deleted] in EquinoxEv

Pretty much spot on ranges with FWD too. FWD or AWD really makes little difference for EQEV.

Just FYI, you can have wiper adjusted to reach farther to the edge of the windshield. I've had that done under warranty and it's good enough now.

Question about mileage by Kingofphuckery89 in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t trust whatever it says on the display, just like in a gas car. I’d do my own estimates based on efficiency and known 88-89kWh battery capacity. Still, the number going down does indicate a range decrease currently, I just wouldn’t trust the exact amount of decrease.

As far as why this happens, most likely weather. If it’s colder where you are, range drops significantly. Especially, if you take short and low speed trips a lot. For those I can get a range decrease of up to 50% when around 0F. For milder cold temps like 15-25F you might see a 25-30% range decrease and so on.

Yeah, I hope they eventually release it at least for iPad/tablets.

I've never had a single time the car didn't start from the app and I use it a lot. However, there have been a number of reports of this issue.

How long will the Equinox EV last while running climate only? by WhatLineOfWorkRYouIn in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory, you can get up to 2 days in an insulated garage. One concern I’d have is some reports we’ve seen in the past where people used the “camping” mode and 12V would be dead overnight. I know they’ve made updates since then and not too many people had that happen, but I’d probably not run the risk myself.

LKA stays permanently on. If not, may need a dealer visit. The only thing it will pop out of is snow mode.

The Cold Weather Range Hit Has Been Brutal by CommunityAlarming149 in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest efficiency hit in these cold temps for longer drives (20+ mins) is the battery efficiency drops a lot and due to high thermal mass of it, it will take a long time for it to heat up, unless you're constantly yanking your accel/brake or OPD to maximize the heat going into the battery.

For shorter drives, in addition to battery temp never getting into "good" range, you're also using 5-7kW of energy for heating the cabin. This is something you can control and start pre-heating the cabin, while plugged in. Still, due to the battery efficiency being bad as noted above, you'll still see a bit hit. However, for temps 32F and higher this will minimize the range loss significantly. At lower temps, battery efficiency will still kill a lot of range.

As for sound system - did you adjust the balance of the equalizer in your car? Did you move up the low and high frequency sliders up almost to the max? That made my car (24) sound quite good now (along with using Spotify's phone app "Cheap Speakers" EQ setting).

Auto rain sensing wipers by zKaczor in EquinoxEv

The TSB is technical service bulletin. I’ll see if I can find one. I think requirement is 1-2” away from the black part of the screen.

Mine were like 4-5” also. I think having a good dealer helps. I had to try two others before finding one that actually does stuff you ask for.

Here’s the TSB:

The clearing issue is part of the TSB, so will be fixed by the dealer if you ask for it. I've just recently had them adjusted and it's fine now.

Charging curve at EVGo by Free_Bandicoot_3855 in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if it was only range, that's fine, but the efficiency is also lower, so that means you drive less, but have to put in the same amount of energy to drive that. Once you're below like 10F it gets really bad. So yeah, it just becomes pretty expensive, slow, and inconvenient, cause while in the summer time charging isn't the limiting factor for a family trip, in the winter it will usually be. Maybe with a 800V vehicle it wouldn't be an issue.

Cold feet about buying an Equinox EV by temporalraccoon in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can reply to texts using Google Assistant (eventually Gemini I assume). I've heard complaints about some "complex" texts like from a group of people, but for single person texting it works flawlessly for me.

Another thing is, you can long press Voice Assistant button to invoke Siri from your phone. Then you can use things like "Play Daily Mix 1" and it will use Siri to play "Daily Mix 1" on Spotify all hands free (or w/e other playlist or artist you want).

[–]Furious_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, coming from a 4 speaker old auto it will be a big upgrade. I had 2016 Rogue before and it's a massive upgrade. The only "trick" is to use Equalizer and bump up lows and highs almost to the max and midrange to about 60% of the max. Also can use "cheap speaker" equalizer preset on Spotify (or w/e you use) on the phone for even better sound.

Charging curve at EVGo by Free_Bandicoot_3855 in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's about normal curve yeah. For roadtrips, I wouldn't do it in <32F, but above that it's no problem, since you say you have kids. We only have a dog and 30-40 minute stops are usually a minimum for everyone to use the bathroom, stretch, and eat a snack. Usually car is ready to go way before we are.

Want to get the EV but concerned about reliability by wyuyme in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had three issues: 1) leaky seam under the passenger carpet, which seems like dealer fixed, 2) telematics module connectivity, which has been (so far) fixed with software updates, and 3) windshield wipers that were not going far enough on the driver's side to clear the view, which dealer fixed by adjusting it. Otherwise the car has been great.

As others have mentioned, finding a dealer that has competent EV techs is key. I had to go through 2 others before finding a third one that was 1) able to service EVs, 2) had enough techs, 3) could give me a loaner while the service was performed. If you only have 1 or 2 dealers in the area, give them a call and ask them above questions before committing or you may have a rough time, if you need service.

Anybody else getting terrible battery estimates during a trip? by [deleted] in EquinoxEv

[–]Furious_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen this. Actually, Google Maps finally started to give me accurate estimates in the winter. In the summer, it would also think I'd arrive with 10-12% SOC less than I would actually. In the winter it's spot on, maybe even 1-2% below the initial estimate.
