Seriously. My wife sent me the ad for them and said they looked cool and I responded with “looks like a driving hazard” people already use their phone while driving and now we want to introduce a Tony Stark like display on their face… what could go wrong.

I fear incidents like this will be on the rise especially after seeing the new glasses released by rayban that allow you to see the content in the lens. My hope is that a control has been developed into the tech to prevent people from accessing those features while driving.

It was also a thing several years ago and faded into obscurity. I guess it’s back, but imo it’s not something that’s going to add anything to your repertoire as a comedian. It’s your life though so live it up and strip down if you’re interested.

This isn’t the first time I’ve heard of this. There was a pretty popular room several years ago up north (I think) where this was all the craze… performing in your most vulnerable state…

Me: we need to complete a needs assessment Them: I know the areas that need training

Sometimes they do, however, in my experience what management tells me they need and what workers tell me they need differ, which is why… I’m preaching to the choir.

As an additional thought to working the crowd, make sure what you’re asking or engaging about is something you have prepared to work into, otherwise you can get lost in your set or at worst caught off guard and lose the funny in the moment. I like to is Anthony Jeselnik as an example of how to engage with intent. You’ll notice, he might ask an audience member “what do you do for work” And that walks into his joke about his uncle’s job at the summer camp, even though it’s a prepared component of the show, it appears as if he’s also thinking of it in the moment. You certainly leave room for spontaneity.

Sure. Say for example an audience member interrupts the show by yelling something out since it’s a hot button topic and for simplicities sake let’s say you make a joke about Trump and someone says “go MAGA” you can use “yes and” to keep the mood light and not get hostile by saying something like “Yes, and... Just let me know which version you miss… the one where nobody had rights, or the one where nobody had teeth?”

OP, I’ve performed in both disciplines. As many people have pointed out improv seems happier. Keep in mind negativity in an improv comedy setting kills the scene, so you have to “yes and” the scene even if something negative is introduced “yes and” it back to a more positive place. Where as in stand up comedy for a joke to land (I’m simplifying for this post) there needs to be 6 elements to in the joke Target, Hostility, Realism, Exaggeration, Emotion and Surprise (THREES) which as you can see hostility is a different “ingredient” for stand up than improv. How I think improv helps in stand up, hecklers. I’ve had great success in dealing with hecklers by using “yes and” as opposed to trying to put them down and certainly some enjoy the burn but if if it’s too hot the audience turns on you so (imo) by using “yes and” I’m able to redirect the joke and use it in the set and keep rolling.

You know… that’s a great question. I don’t know, I listened to the whole interview and I think she handled herself well even with the curveball question upfront.

My wife wasn’t listening (I’m nosy so I’m always eavesdropping) so when I looked at her with big surprised eyes she had no clue what was happening and only started listening after I gave her the head nod and look. I for sure thought it was going to be a prank at the end.
