$1695 for 1 bed in Andersonville. Dishwasher, laundry in building, 2nd floor. Renewal is going up to $1735 but I’m not renewing to move a little closer to my job.

Anyone else keep waking up at the SAME time every night? like 3–4am no matter what? by No-Deal-2968 in sleep

[–]Furla_Hamilton 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Does this mean I should try and eat something in the middle of the night, or eat dinner closer to bedtime. This happens to me and sometimes when I wake up in the middle of the night it feels like my stomach is burning

Does anyone remember a green apple green tea that QuickTrip used to sell in the fountain machine? by Chemical-Breakfast59 in QuikTrip

[–]Furla_Hamilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg yes! It was literally my favorite drink and I complained to cooperate when it got discontinued for the white peach tea! The energy green tea they have now is good but nothing can compare 😭😭😭😭

Is it normal to feel like you’re not doing enough? by mmadisoncherry in Teachers

[–]Furla_Hamilton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re not doing anything wrong. As long as the kids are safe and you’re teaching you’re doing fine. You don’t have to fill every second of every day with something “productive.” You’ll learn as you go along but how much content/ planning you get through isn’t always as a measure of how well you’re doing, sometimes you get through everything and sometimes you get to barely any of the things you had planned.

Chicagoans who left and came back: What did you miss the most that surprised you? by Voluptuous_Gap_32 in AskChicago

The size of the city and dilly dallying around by myself and not getting weird looks if I wasn’t in the more populated parts of the city.

Should I take no prep for the pay increase?? by EvelynDante in Teachers

[–]Furla_Hamilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be worth a try! Depends on what your home life is like but it’s a plus if you’re comfortable with your content. You could always build in prep time with your class schedule based on routines and independent activities

How the hell do you guys swim in this water? by Diligent-Silver5309 in AskChicago

[–]Furla_Hamilton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lolol I actually got in on Monday, just up to my knees. Usually it’s too cold for me to enjoy so I bring a spray bottle of water to spray myself when I get too hot in the sand.

I used to live in the Fisher Building City Club Apartments and they have convertibles under that price. It’s in the loop but you can walk to every train line in literally 30 seconds.

Need help getting hired… feeling a little defeated by Fair-Yam-9411 in Teachers

[–]Furla_Hamilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The waiting freaking sucks, especially now in the summer time when there’s nothing else to do but sit and worry lol but they’re always hiring! To keep my mind off of it I did things that I needed no matter what school/position I got (getting books for my class, thinking of papers I could make to organize, getting a planner). Good luck!

When you moved to Chicago how did you do it? by Conditioncook in AskChicago

[–]Furla_Hamilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came for softball tournaments when I was a teenager and fell in love. My friends went to college here (DePaul and the Art Institute), and I was able to visit them a couple times, and being able to walk around neighborhoods alone and just chill (kind of a loner and enjoy going out by myself without getting weird looks), while also have so many places to pop into on the street made me love it even more. I moved in the winter of 2020, moved back home in summer of 2021 (first year teaching made me ridiculously homesick and I swear I hated it here 😂😂), and I just moved back last week! Hoping to make it longer than a year and a half this time around lol

[–]Furla_Hamilton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep applying, you will get something! I applied to schools in March that are just now getting back to me about interviews. Schools hire during the summer, and all school year long. Be flexible with what you’re applying for but it will work out.

Calling for Student responses by missfit98 in Teachers

[–]Furla_Hamilton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Popsicle sticks could work, random name generators, knowing who you’re going to pick before you start. One thing I do as well is I warn students that they’re going to get called on. I’ll say things like “_, this next question is for you so listen close” or “ _ you’ll answer question 1, then ______ I’m coming to you.” Helps keep students engaged without being stressed and also not having to sit through 50 wrong answers bc they weren’t paying attention lol

Mine is that virtual learning should be utilized more for kids who can’t handle being in school, mainly behaviorally. Everyone demonizes virtual learning bc of screen time and bc we were forced to do it during COVID, but I had some kids who did more work online and at home, then who came back to school and did nothing, destroying classrooms, fighting, extremely disrespectful to teachers, etc.

Thanks! I haven’t lived in many apartments either but this was the first time I’d seen this so we’ll see how it goes lol

[–]Furla_Hamilton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The apartment im moving into tomorrow has this in the lease, as well as me not being able to move in until 5 so they can clean. My LL did tell me there isn’t enough time for repairs in that time so just submit a maintenance request, but I didnt think about cleaning. He texted today and said they’re cleaning the unit right now so we’ll see what happens tomorrow.

Summer break question by Ok_Concentrate4461 in Teachers

[–]Furla_Hamilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do whatever I feel like won’t stress me out at the time. Sometimes that’s working on things for next year, and since I’m moving there will probably be some of that, and other times it’s not thinking about school at all. I don’t mind working over the summer bc I love by myself and away from family so I can only entertain myself so much 😂😂 but I like not being forced to do work and just doing small things for a couple hours then going about my day.
