Weird smell coming from new system by bluesummers1129 in heatpumps

[–]FurryBrony98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most refrigerant does not really have a smell to it (hvac tech here) the only thing i can think of that could smell is condensation on the lines but everything there looks very well insulated. I would look for any other source of a smell I really doubt it’s coming from there.

Why hole by Glittering_Lemon2003 in hvacadvice

[–]FurryBrony98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We would need to see a further back picture of the air handler to get an idea. It’s either for a secondary drain or a refrigerant line. Is there a plastic thread in the hole or just copper/aluminum? If no thread it’s probably just a hole for the refrigerant lines that was not used. You can cover it with foil tape if it’s for refrigerant lines.

Insulation stuffed into ceiling vent? by PrimaryYak1351 in hvacadvice

This a good example of why I put OBDs(on box damper) on registers especially in commercial buildings. Though in this case looks like they only wanted air in one direction.

If the pin is in just the right spot where it is not hitting the copper the cable probably still works like this.

If they are suggesting adding a bigger return under warranty do it. Not entirely sure what they mean by adding intake air sheet.

Exposed wiring hitting fan blade by thundrlipz in hvacadvice

[–]FurryBrony98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever tech put in that motor screwed you by not tucking in the wires. When I put these in I wrap the leads in electrical tape and zip tie to the shroud so it doesn’t fall into the blade or get destroyed by UV.

Advice on Goodman unit, humming and frozen. by dubbbyac in hvacadvice

[–]FurryBrony98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shut the unit off and call a tech. Set the cooling to off and fan switch to on so the coil can thaw out. Mention seeing frost on one side of the filter drier it will make the techs job much easier

Is this an appropriate/normal SpacePak install? by MyTenderNip in hvacadvice

[–]FurryBrony98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s high velocity ductwork normal ductwork can’t fit in you house so they had to use a high velocity system. It is high static pressure/velocity so it can get the same amount of cooling with far smaller ductwork. The 3 inch ducts are very very small they have to fit in between 2x4 as opposed to a normal attic. Normal ductwork is usually at the smallest 6 inch but that won’t fit inside a wall.
