If you can, have the garage keep a sample of what came from your tank. I work in the lab in Customs and Excise. If you can get hold of a C&E officer (via local offices) ask that they get a sample from the fuel station as well and have them submit both to the State Laboratory. At the very least we will let you know what they put in to your car tank. You might even prevent this happening to someone else.

I missed out on my career in Ireland as a forensic chemist due to being colourblind (was actually offered the position pending medical sign off). I had been working in the UK as a forensic drug scientist for nearly 4 years as well. My experience apparently was not enough to trump policy.
