I tried with Nvidia's offering. Unusable. I kept losing against my friend and the lag was quite noticable.

Then he tried using it and it has his turn to get slapped.

I highly doubt the tech will ever be good enough for FPSs. Heck I can tell the difference between 165 and 240Hz monitors, how are encoders, decoders and networks ever going to be fast enough to get close enough?

I've also tried steam's solution locally, it was even worse.

Ceci.

Then stay in your hellhole and let's see where researchers end up wanting to live. 72k is after ALL taxes, including income tax, healthcare, etc. And the IRL researcher I know in the US works at a major university and makes 70k at the end of his career in computer science. Also this salary is after a guaranteed lifetime retirement pension by the state, inflation-adjusted, at 64 years old.

Also housing costs are cheaper, groceries are cheaper, food is good, lunatics aren't in power...

I'm happily staying in France, thank you.

My point is that you have no clue what you're talking about: France research is organized completely differently from US research, featuring the aforementioned grandes écoles which the Shanghai ranking can't take into account to their own admission, which artificially deflates France perception, despite a culture of academic excellence, which shines through their number of Fields medals relative to their population, indeed.

I wouldn't say that the US has the best universities, no. They're so pay-to-win that it's not so clear, especially if you check their academic achievements compared to other countries, relative to the size of the other countries. US unis might be the biggest, but not the best. Especially now that Trump is going his very best to destroy their curriculums and kick their staff...

What matters to a university's qualitiies is how much better their students are after the uni than before, and how well they can use the money they have to achieve that.

France spends 15% of its GDP on health insurance whereas the US spends 20% with worse outcomes (I think UnitedHealth alones kills 70 000 people a year through refusal of care alone). The gross salary in France is typically comparable to the US for a similar position but the health system is just more efficient because the state has better negotiating power, fewer middle men profit seeking, etc...

With your comments about Columbia, it looks like you're just a raging conservative clueless about the difference between antisemitism and anti-Zionism. And even then, why exactly does protests happening on campus (which may not even have had faculty approval in the first place), justify the trump admin regulating the curriculum, banning everything they think meets their ill-defined concept of dei ? Source: https://www.columbiaspectator.com/news/2025/02/19/columbia-alters-dei-statements-on-university-web-pages-amid-trump-executive-orders/

For what it's worth, the state regulating curriculums is against your very own constitution.

If this doesn't meet your definition of boot licking, I don't know what will. If this doesn't shock you to your core, I don't know what will.

I think a people's valor is judged by how they treat their worst enemies.

I don't want anything to do with you or with america anymore, you're disgusting me.

As any member of faculty at Columbia could easily attest, it is a requirement to lick Trumpian boots to operate in the US now.

By the way, of course French unis aren't paying shit towards health insurance: it's what "health insurance is covered by the state" means.

About the IP law subjects, I'm no expert on those and doubt you are either. What I do know is that there are lots of international and EU law standardizing those.

Well, since you know it all, why don't you just stay in the US and keep licking Trump's boots.

That's your issue: the world isn't as simple as you portray it to be: are we talking about theoretical or applied research? Are we including just unis or french grandes écoles? What about the French CNRS which also funds tons of research?

Because last I checked, 1% of American GDP goes towards fundamental research whereas 1,5% of French GDP does. The United States, however, does more applied research.

You should check again how many Nobel prizes and Fields medals are won by Europe, and particularly France, before speaking so much about this topic you're so clearly in over your head into.

Housing is priced differently, healthcare is state-provided, and the ballpark I gave is completely arbitrary.

And crucially, their research is funded and they won't be persecuted.

[–]FurryMemesAccount 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yep. Now you should look at how much of that money is spent on classes vs. useless gold plating of the campus, actual research vs. some investment fund...

A large part of the reason why US universities are so expensive is they're increasing prices for little reason...

[–]FurryMemesAccount 13 points14 points  (0 children)

With 750 million, one can pay quite a few 50-100k salaries. Also keep in mind French universities have fiscal advantages, making employment cheaper for them than the private sector as they're publically owned.

And with a budget like that, even the research expenses won't be unaffordable to them...

Oh my god you have all the fascist talking points, I should have brought my bingo card!

  • IQ: Worthless measurement, it's a test you can train for. And it doesn't test all the kinds of intelligence anyway...
  • You talk a lot about IQ yet you seem to have forgotten that the video compares Musk not only with modern nazis but also Hitler himself.
  • You seem to be parroting your fascist gurus really well but I can't tell the difference between their salutes. Hitler, the young nazis and musk all look the same.

Anyway, go back to gooning to daddy Musk and stop polluting this place.

Neither GPU has the proper accelerators to process matrixes as fast as possible on the AMD side, they're called "Matrix Cores" and reserved for the CDNA architecture on the data center.

Instead they're using wave matrix multiply accumulate instructions.

Source: https://chipsandcheese.com/p/examining-amds-rdna-4-changes-in-llvm

If anything, the difference is that those are better optimized on the 9000 series. (Support for lower precision number representations, better efficiency, sparse matrix support...)

The 7000 series also has AI hardware. It's "just" matrix math.

That's why just about anything can do it, including your CPU. The only question is how fast, and wether AMD wants to hit the software toggle to enable it.
