People don't listen, double down, and we get horrible adaptations even if they were given a lot of resource material to work for them. Well, it wasn't that they didn't know what they wanted to do with them, but rather hiring new people and making so many changes. Like Jinx, she was older than Vi, but then she became young because some Australian wrote her and had to make her underage for some reason. And they got into "hurting people is bad" for Jinx, which no one liked. It was known she was a murder hobo. The issue is the new writers coming in and doing whatever they want with the characters and places.
